Draft Advice

Recommended Posts

12 team standard league. I have the 7th overall pick. I am looking at options for what to do at the beginning of my draft because that will determine the rest of it obviously.

First, I was looking at a combo of Calvin Johnson/Drew Brees with my first two picks. WRs don't get taken in my draft in the first round ever. I think Calvin went 11 last year actually. Those two together score a ton of points, but my RBs are going to be crap as well as my second WR, which wouldn't be taken until the 5th round. This doesn't seem to be a smart option, but Brees/Calvin sounds so appealing.

Last year I went RB-RB-RB with my first three picks and struck out on all three. I am convinced I still need to go RB-RB to start since the WR depth is so deep and I can get someone like Fitzgerald or Garcon as my #1WR. With that said, if first six picks go Charles, AP, McCoy, Forte, Lacy, Lynch, I am left with guys like Foster/Ball/Bell and that doesn't get me excited. That's why Calvin seems better than those guys and someone like Morris/Gio Bernard as my second pick.

Thoughts are appreciated and will respond to your post for a comment.

WR and QB are deep, and you can get a good one late. Not a great one, though. Go with Calvin. Heck, go with Brees in the 2nd unless one of those 1st round RBs falls to you.

After that, grab RB - RB - RB and, possibly, RB. WR is deep, and you can get a pair of decent ones late to pair with Calvin. Guys like Hilton, Wright, Maclin, Wallace, etc. go late. You'll be sacrificing at TE a bit, but once you get past the top 5 it's a crap-shoot until the 14-15th place one. Hit one 1 RB, and you'll be competitive. 2, and you'll have an advantage over a lot of teams. Good luck!

If they are available it will be hard to do better than Calvin and Brees. Top WR and top 3 QB.

Another consideration would be Jimmy Graham and Brees.

Of course you could go the RB route but I don't know you will get great value at 7 drafting a RB.

I would probably go Calvin though.
