We have a baby snapping turtle as a pet

I know. Odd pet. However I have a long term policy of helping turtles across the road. Over the years I have helped hundreds.

My 4 year old and I came across this tiny ass snapping turtle and have had him for 2 months. Tried crickets,fish,store bought turtle food. No go. The thing won't eat any of it.

I have a spot where we can catch massive crawfish. Like 4 to 6 inches no joke. We also found a lot of small ones. Like the size of your fingernail. Took them home and the turtle feasted.

Make sure you wash his fingers while he's got them all, as turtles also carry salmonella.

This,we had a decent sized one wonder up from our pond last Summer,my dogs were going batsh!t crazy is why I found him.Took a shovel to help him back to HIS area and he attacked it multiple times before I was able to get him.

I saw this documentary once where they eat pizza.

Was on a swamp tour in an area where they film those alligator hunters a few years ago. Air boat ride that brought you in the swamps where all the dangerous gawkers live. Tour guide brought us this 100 year old snapping turtle just sitting on the bank. Took a broken heavy rake handle and started shoving it in his mouth. Fawker bit it in two like nothing. Snap!!! And then we fed it marshmallows. Wild.

my son loves turtles. caught millions. he'll jump in water and come out with snappers. knows how to handle them. but we've never kept any aquatic turtles. they are pain in azz to take care of. we have box turtle pen in yard. i got permit a couple years ago. they keep having babies....but they are best pet ever. stay in pen, hibernate 6 months of the year, low maintenance.

We had a couple family reunions on a lake in Minnesota. I was a little too old (read: too cool) to participate in the turtle races but I specifically remember my little brother going apesh!t because our little sister's 3 legged turtle won the turtle race at the county fair and his didn't even place.

Careful, I've read that baby snapping turtles are highly correlated with snapping turtles.

Caught one while flathead fishing once. Thought I had a huge cat on. I about sh!t when it surfaced. Focker was at least 2 ft across. Very angry I put a hook in him.
