Torrey Smith

Recommended Posts

I have never been overly impressed with this guy, but I keep reading how he should have a career year under Chip Kelly. Is this all hype or can he be a legit #2 WR for fantasy purposes? I just offered my 2017 3rd round pick for him but now I am having second thoughts. What do you think his value is this year and going forward?

Both Gabbert and Kaep have horrible deep ball accuracy. Additionally, Kelly's offense is predicated on the quarterback releasing the ball quickly. Two factors that work against Smith by and large on their own, but coupled? No thanks.

I'll take a shot on Bruce Ellington, solely since Quinton Patton is garbage, and I don't trust Vance McDonald or Garrett Celek to be THAT reliable in the passing game.

I thought Vancy pants looked pretty solid last year. It was a low volume offense so it's tough to tell. Ertz did well in spots last year in Kelly's offense.

As for Torrey, he hasn't shown me he is a receiver who works anywhere on the field. His game had been deep balls which neither of the Niners qbs are good at throwing.

I thought he retired during last season .

I wouldn't trust him as WR2. I'd take him as a WR3 if he fell.

You would really draft him that high? I want someone with a much higher ceiling.

Even if he does end up with WR2/3 numbers (which is a long shot), he's going to be so inconsistent that you'll have a hard time starting him week to week.

He won't be very inconsistent if he ends up with wr2 numbers .

I don't see any reason to believe he will be worth anymore than a wr 4.

Yeah, ideally I will not draft him. I think he will be a boring WR3. I'm not gonna take him off my draft board though. I guess what I should've said is that he will prob finish with WR3 numbers but you are right I won't take him as my 3rd WR.

I think me and you had a similar conversation about Decker a couple years ago when he went to the Jets. I did end up with Decker in a couple leagues that year and it was prob a similar situation to Torrey this year. Not many other options on that offense and they should throw the ball plenty.

Career average of 49-850-7. Horrible situation in 2 straight seasons. Certainly someone who is under the radar and will probably be a steal in most leagues. If he is on your roster, he'll probably start nearly every game.

The Wrs for Chip last year sucked. Why would the Niner situation be any different?

TY Hilton has been a borderline WR2 or better his entire career, and is inconsistent as all fock.

Can't believe you remember that. As far as Decker I thought the qb situation was abysmal. Even with Fitz, I didn't think it would be all that much better. I was dead wrong last year on him.

He's being undervalued in most drafts I've been in. Realistic shot to eclipse 2013 numbers and put up 200+ points and he's going in the tenth round. Opportunity and targets are there. 68/1050/4 is my projection.

I'm blessed with a memory that holds useless information like a safe.

Sounds pretty realistic. That's solid WR3 numbers most years in standard.

The problem is I just don't think he has the upside as mentioned. Those guys have their place. I find I gravitate towards those guys depending on who is already on my roster.

Fool's gold, always has been.

I had Torry Smith two years ago when he drew 261 yards in pass interference calls. Made me so pissed to see the offense move up 40 yards, and my fantasy team didn't get anything.

Ever since then, I've always wanted a site to give me the option of rewarding a penalty drawn.

Number four wr . He needs to have a Qb that can get him the ball , and they don't seem to have one .

You are lucky. Mine is pretty shaky. It's probably why I contradict myself sometimes.

I agree with this. Smith is more of a deep threat, or intermediate threat. Route running is not his specialty. In Baltimore, he had major issues with press coverage. Unless he could outrun the Corner, he wasn't very good. I ignore the reports this early. All WR's look great with no pads and without anyone able to hit them. If the 49'ers had another WR, I would be more inclined to draft Smith as a WR4, but not now. The offensive line may get the QB beat to hell in their division and Kelly will want to have Kaep or Gabbert dump the ball off as quickly as possible to avoid being sacked. Neither QB is great at leading a WR to the open holes in the defense, so I don't have much hope Smith will do anything. He is a good player for a best ball league as he will probably have a couple good games, but nothing consistent and when he does go off, he will probably be on your bench after putting up horrible numbers for several weeks in a row.

Not a redraft target but I bought a couple dynasty shares.

I think his value has been crushed so much he's a good target to acquire as WR 4-5 depth and I'm willing to roll the dice with Chip in town.
