WR: Best of a mediocre bunch?

Recommended Posts

12-person redraft league. Start 3 WRs, plus flex spots for WR/RB & WR/TE. WRs score 6 points for TD (receiving or returning), plus 1 point for 10yds, plus bonus of 5 points for getting over 125 yards in a game. No points-per-reception.

I am weak at WR. I've got Andre Johnson, McCardell, Stallworth, Pinkston, Kevin Curtis, Sinorice Moss, and Troy Williamson. (For the WR/TE flex spot, my TEs are only average: Dallas Clark and Zach Hilton.)

Some notable WRs left in free agency are Chad Jackson, Ron Curry, D.Gabriel, A.Chatman, Devery Henderson, Troy Brown, Rod Gardner, Colbert, Reche Caldwell, Kelley Washington, & Bryant Johnson.

Any suggestions on who I might switch out for better production? Caldwell is tempting, but likely will be only mediocre in NE's spread-the-ball offense. If Chris Henry continues to be an idiot, then Chatman or Washington might have value.

On my team, I think the first to go should be Moss. Agree? He's a rookie behind two well-established receivers on a team with two strong TEs (Shockey & Boo).

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you are right, you are weak at wr, but that may mean you are stacked at rb. If that is the case make a deal to get a top ten wr, Andre Johnson could have a big year, with a new system, improved o-line and help with moulds taking the pressure off of him. In order to compete, imo you gotta make a move for a big time receiver.

I would add Doug Gabriel and get rid of Moss or Pinkston if it were me. Probably wouldn't help in the end but I do think Gabriel is the guy on your list who has the most upside this season if an injury happened to either of the starters ahead of him, preferably Porter. I'm giving Brooks the benefit of doubt that he'll do better than Collins because of his mobility.

A trade at some point may be the way to go?

I've been hearing that Caldwell has been impressing in NE. Word is he should take Givens spot from last year.........just my .02

I wouldn't take any of those players except for Chad Jackson. The rest will be available during the season or in the middle of the preseason until one of the players ahead of them goes down with an injury. And the Pat WRs (except for Jackson) are mediocre fantasy receivers due to the system.

Why would I take Jackson then? Because I believe the Pats drafted him as a potential guy that will develop into a primary WR stud that they haven't had since Terry Glenn. I know you don't want more youth, but I believe your first 3-4 WRs are fine:

Johnson--if returns to 2004's production, you could be doing quite well

Stallworth--should be okay if healthy

McCardell--underrated and still probably good enough with Rivers

Curtis--as mentioned to me by a member the other day, a nice upside player that should continue to eat into Bruce's time.

Pinkston? Best season he had was in 2002: 60 catches, 798 yards, 7 Tds. Nothing special here. Plus I believe Westbrook, Brown, and L.J. Smith are the options that see more looks than Pinkston. He's just not much of an upside guy to me. I'm not sure I'd get rid of him, but your rookie (Moss) and second year player havemore upside than Pinkston.

But if I were keep Pinkston I might consider dropping Moss for Jackson. I'd probably drop Pinkston for Jackson, but that's just me thinking a little longer term and believing your starters should be decent enough for this year as you wait for next year and Williamson, Moss, and Jackson to develop...

I would definately drop Moss first and Pinkston second if you decided to make a move. I think Caldwell is worth a chance. And then I would maybe suggest Curry if he stays healthy. The raiders could have quite an offense and he has shown a lot more upside than Gabriel.
