Muslim kid builds a clock, gets arrested for 'hoax bomb'

Recommended Posts

I don't care what his parents do, what nationality they are. he brought a device that could be construed as a bomb. McVeigh was white. ANYONE IS A THREAT.

So lets start arresting anyone with something that looks like a wire in a backpack.

He wasn't a threat...and you fear mongering pansies are sad.

Whatever dude. You trust who/what you want, and I'll trust who/what I want.

The more I see this story and the clock and the kid, the more I side with the police and teachers. It's naive to think that this couldn't be looked at as a bomb by a random person. Yes, if a white or black kid made it, no one would care. But that's how it is. Muslims are known terrorists who make bombs so I'm sorry but this was in poor taste. I Can even picture the cops questioning him and him answering them with odd, vague answers in an accent rather than reassuring them with succinct answers. Wires, circuits, numbers, this looks like all the bombs you see in movies wich is all 99.99999% of us know about bombs. It should have been obvious that this was toeing the line. I don't blame the authorities for a second for being cautious.

He deserved an apology for sure but something tells me he was being a bit cheeky with this. "What? It's a clock, it doesn't look like a bomb." It's the equivalent of being at an airport and yelling "There's a MOM on the plane!" And once the police arrest you, you say "I didn't say bomb, I said mom!" Cmon, you know the words sound alike and that it would cause the same effect.

Why is it that you can't draw a picture of the prophet, but you can name everyone after him? :dunno:

You can't name a dog or teddy bear after him either.

I get the suspicion and the caution by administrators. Not just understandable but commendable.

Once you've figured out it's just his homework, you send him to class. He got suspended ... What? What was he suspended for? Doing his homework correctly? Fock that.

Some of you are completely pathetic.

The same fockers commending the school for zero tolerance in this instance are probably the same ones crying when little Johnny gets suspended for three days for bringing a pocketknife to school.

The summer after I graduated from HS I was on my way home from work when I saw a wooden box on the side of the road. I stopped to pick it up and found it was a box of flares. A couple of days later I took a half dozen sticks, taped them together, and attached them to an old wind up alarm clock my parents had in their basement. It was the kind you see in old cartoons, my bomb clock actually looked pretty cool.

A couple days later I was telling a friend at work about my clock and he insisted I show him. The next day I brought it Into work and showed him the clock which he loved. I put the clock in a locker while I worked but I forgot it when I left. The next day when I got to work the cops, EMT and the FD were all there with their lights flashing. When I asked someone what was going on they said someone found a bomb in the building. I found the nearest cop and told him what happened. It turns out that at 6 AM my alarm went off and the Maintenance Guy found my clock and called the cops.

Well it was a long day at the cop shop. I was read the riot act and grilled up and down but was not charged with anything. (This was before 911) The next day I was fired as soon as I entered the building. Good Times!

This. I have no problem with the teacher being scared that it might be a bomb. But wtf was he led out in handcuffs for? And suspended?

Can you imagine the repurcussions the school would've faced if it turned out to be a bomb and it came out that the kid was walking around with it all day before he detotnated it?

Also age doesn't mean anything when I was probably 10 years old I knew more than 99% of computer science majors. Kids now days grow up with eletronics.

To add to it though to me it wouldn't of matter if he was white, black, or green. If a kid is walking around with something that looks like that sh*t better get dealt with. The only reason it is on thr news is because the kid was muslim and they want to make a big deal about it. Blame the media not the authorities. They handled this exactly the way I would want a school to handle this situation if someone I loved dearly went to X school.

So you look at it, determine it's not anything but a clock and that's the end of it. WHy handcuff the kid and take him out of there? Why is he suspended?

We are becoming a nation of paranoiacs, especially as it rtelates to Muslims.

Was it a little over kill? Yes. In this situation it was better to be safe than sorry. Probably every employee at that school has never seen anything like that and they had to make a quick decision, they made the right one.

Also there is no way his parents didnt have prior knowledge about this. They probably checked his homework etc... They knew exactly what they were doing and we are giving them exactly what they want in my opinion, attention. Because there is no way I'm letting my kid take something to school that looks exactly like the bomb Ive seen in every Mel Gibson movie.

And as Americans we should be overly paranoid, we are the target for a lot of people, thats fact.

I'm sure that all the folks who built bomb shelters in the 50s felt the same way.

This is a grown man who tapes flares to a clock to resemble a bomb and brings it to work. If that's not the behavior of a retard I don't know what is. :dunno:

Everything was handled fine except for the schools post investigation response.

If Ahmed tried to take his homemade clock to an airport he'd get some questioning then let go to carry on. No different here.

Quite a bit different.

If Ahmed (or anyone) tried taking more than 3 ounces of a liquid to an airport he would get looked at too.

Your continued espousing of racist sentiment is actual racism, and your efforts to backpedal off of it now show that you knew it was wrong.

It's a no win. If it is a bomb and goes off, and kills kids at the school, then the school and law enforcement didn't do enough. If it's just a clock, like it was, then the school and law enforcement went overboard. They should've detained him, found out what it was, then let him go. I don't blame them for being cautious, but they should've let him go once they figured out it was just a clock. No harm, no foul.

I know, but it's not a big issue either. Isn't the kid getting a trip to MIT and the White House? Seems like he's the winner here.

14 is plenty old enough to play a sideways prank on the school. I was savvy and aware at 14 and didnt know jack about computers. this kid is a robotics specialist, he knew what he did.

Alot of people here are also baffled as to why he was suspended and reprimanded even tho they knew it wasnt a bomb. This goes back to my post where I suggested he was purposefully being cheeky and making something that he knew would look like a bomb but then play dumb and act like he had no idea. Why else would the cops further punish him and the school further discipline him? I beleive he gave them reason to think he was being purposefully vague to further the prank and got nailed for it. I dont buy that hes some sad nerd who mumbled and cried his way through the day. He obviously did not give the authorities what they wanted to hear and was thusly punished.
