The Black lives matter movement

Recommended Posts

That is true. but only due to the misuse of the actual concept of racism and only to negate the disturbing truth when people try to point to it.

The truth is not racist, the truth is socioeconomic disparity that impacts a disproportionate number of AA's. But the way out of this chasm is not through rap lyrics or protesting, it is through a sustained and forceful action to negate the disparity through education and effort.

Still racist. You imply that its not the fault of every white person who ever lived.

Have they so far? With examples

How the University of Missouri situation has been handled is a good one. The azzholes at Dartmouth as well.

Then there's the hands off approach to rioters in Baltimore and Ferguson.

Not of "every" white person who ever lived, but lets not pretend the white-dominated society had no impact in bringing the AA community to this point either.

A bunch of black students essentially blackmailed a University President to step down. That wouldn't have happened if Romney were President? What would he have done about it? What will Trump/Carson/whoever do about it?

I think he meant running the university, not in the White House...

A list of demands was submitted to President Eisgruber before today's demonstration

In conjunction with this morning’s upcoming walkout demonstration, Princeton’s Black Justice League released a list of demands for the University’s administration on Facebook late last night.

The BJL announced yesterday via Facebook that it will be joining students across the country in a national walkout day “to confront and challenge institutional racism and systemic inequality.”

The walkout will take place in front of Nassau Hall at 11:30am today, and students are invited to participate wearing all black.

The open letter posted to the event’s Facebook page lists three demands of the University:

* “WE DEMAND the university administration publicly acknowledge the racist legacy of Woodrow Wilson.” Specifically, the BJL asks the University to rename the Woodrow Wilson School, rename Wilson college, and remove the Wilson mural from Wilcox dining hall.

* “WE DEMAND cultural competency training for all staff and faculty.” The letter states that this request was previously voted down on free speech grounds, and requests classes on the history of marginalized peoples be added to the list of distribution requirements.

* “WE DEMAND a cultural space on campus dedicated specifically to Black students, and that space can be within the Carl A. Fields Center but should be clearly marked.” The BJL stipulates that the naming of the space be left to student discretion so as to avoid naming it after a “white benefactor or person with bigoted beliefs, as evidenced by the naming of Stanhope Hall.”

The letter concludes by stating Black students at Princeton are “sick and tired of being sick and tired,” quoting Fannie Lou Hamer, and requests that President Eisgruber sign the document.

Students responded to the news immediately on social media. One Yik Yak read, “The demands don’t make any sense. They care more about the attention than getting anything accomplished.”

Another stated, “It’s ridiculous to change WWS’ name. We should understand that it is possible to honor a man’s contribution without subscribing to his principles.”

Be sure to check in with The Tab Princeton throughout the day for live coverage of today’s demonstrations. The BJL’s original letter is included below.

I would tell them to go screw themselves... "DEMAND"? F them...

The OP was about Kilroy voting for a Republican President because he hates blacklivesmatter. I'm just trying to see the correlation.

Demanding inclusion and then demanding their own exclusive area, not entirely surprising, but still hard to believe they would actually show their own racist bent and intolerance for all to see at the same time. Still, it is good to hear all this, makes me wonder where they developed such hypocrisy and how they manage to defend it in their own minds. I think there is much more to learn here.

I thought seperate but equal was racist. I guess that changed somewhere along the way.

Does this mean we have to have a seperate place for the chinks and the Irish?

I think it means we need to understand where they developed the notion that this approach to the world is proper. These kids were not born racist, they learned to be racist, unless we can determine from where this kind of sick mentality arose nothing we might presume to do will matter.

No because chinks aren't really people.

Can't we just relocate the crackers to Arkansas or one of them other cotton belt states? Is there a big difference? They can keep their guns.

If I remember correctly, Mississippi has the highest population of AA's per-capita than any other state.

I was sitting at a bar in Las Vegas about twenty years ago trying to score with this stripper (36DD). They had a pit boss sitting next to us who had just gotten off and was having a drink. He overheard me talking to the stripper about New Orleans. Pitt Boss: Excuse me. I don't mean to interrupt, but you're from Louisiana? Me: Yes sir. Pitt Boss: Have you ever been to Mississippi? I'm getting transferred there in a month. A new casino in Biloxi is opening up and they want me to train new hires. What's it like down there? I've never been to the south. Me: Biloxi, Mississippi? (Every year as a kid my family and friends went to Biloxi for spring break and 4th of July weekend because we couldn't afford to go to Florida's beaches) You've never been to the deep south? We'll, your in for a treat. Where to begin? Lets see, you're going to meet the most racists people you've ever met in your life. Because you're white, all other whites will assume you use the N-word, agree that separate shitters were a good thing, and lynching was obviously a needed tool. They're still really really really fawking pissed about losing the war. The wemens chew tobacco and fawk their cousins. Speaking of fawking....most of the wemen are fat. Say goodbye to the insanely hot strippers like the one sitting next to me. Stripper: Thanks baby? Me: You need another drink darlin? Don't get me wrong, they have some hotties down there. But their daddy's bring you into their gun room where he shows you everything he's ever shot as a friendly reminder that that's his little angel. What else? It's hotter than hell in the summertime. And not Vegas hot. Humid hot. I'll take Vegas hot any day over humid hot. And it's a bullseye for Cat 5 hurricanes that destroy everything on the coast. The casino is on the coast. They had a big one thirty years ago. They have a big ship on the side of the road they turned into a gift shop. Great reminder there. Every summer you cross your fingers and pray. Speaking of the coast, have you ever been to a really nice beach? Pitt Boss: Yes, Maui. Me: We'll it's the exact opposite of Maui. The beaches are so bad, Asians won't go in them. And speaking of praying...you go to church? Pitt Boss: No. Me: They have a Baptist church on every corner. No kidding. They don't like sinners like me who drink on Sundays. Sundays are Gods day. And dry counties. No booze. If you're in a dry county, God help you if it's not in the trunk. And half the people are really stoopid. It's like Wal Mart every fawking where you go. You go to the library and there's some redneck jerking it in bathroom, a clean up on the civil rights aisle, and a crapper bustin fatty in a sweat shirt that says, "Prom Queen", whose beating her kids in the parking lot because she can. Pitt Boss: Wow. Is there anything good about it? Yup. New Orleans and Florida are only an hour and a half away. Me: Bartender, three shots please. Stripper: I like sex on the beach. Me: Me too darlin. One sex on the beach and two crowns straight up. My new friend doesn't look so good.

How about they send out a statement that any storming of offices or library's will be met with immediate expulsion? It would be a start. If they want to protest they can do it in a courtyard. Plus I would love to see some Wall Street douches kid go home and explain to Daddy that he got kicked out of the school that he pulled strings for him to get in, made tons of donations to and his family has been going to for three generations because he wanted to throw in with a bunch of idiots that he's known since September.

I agree that the black lives matter movement is ridiculous and their leaders have totally ruined it by using the wrong examples to prove their point. But why does anyone think that electing a Republican President will change anything? Didn't the #blm movement butt in and interrupt multiple speeches by Sanders and Clinton? It's not like they're friends with the movement. BLM isn't going anywhere. As uneducated and misguided as they are, they aren't going to disband because of a Republican President.

Here is why I think that someone that does not vote R would consider it because of BLM. The President and his admin (Holder especially) has pandered to this movement sending representatives to funerals of criminals shot by cops (but none that I know of to cops shot by criminals), calling out cops before investigations are completed, launching Federal human rights investigations on cases already cleared by investigators, making statements like "If I had a Son..." etc.

Also when the Federal investigations show the cop was justified you never hear him come out and say the cop was right and the criminal was wrong. You just hear that they do not have the evidence to proceed. Fanning the flames emboldens BLM people and causes them to go further than they otherwise would. Also he has seemed less concerned about cops being shot than he is about people with criminal records that go after cops and are shot. I think a lot of the protests turned into riots like Baltimore would not have been as bad if he had come out against people not following the orders of police. Maybe this is not the case but it is the perception of a lot of people. So people blame him in part for what is going on and want someone in the WH that will criticize this movement and go after them when they do stupid . I doubt you will agree with this but I think people switching sides see it this way.

Well said. And I will add, if both sides were equally represented, we wouldn't be in the predicament we are in today. Both sides needed representation in this. It goes both ways. Reform was and is needed. And so was and is respect for those who serve and protect us. It goes hand in hand. Not all of you are bad. Not all of us are bad.

No disrespect, but how approiate. I doubt, respectively, that officer Ramos would want to be used as a pawn in the grand being and scheme of an administration that uses the people that protect us on one hand and has a beer for a photo op on the other.

I'll never question your NYPD service. But I will ask this: Was Giulanni a friend or foe? Was the lie Clinton said at every SOTU address real? Who made New York a safer place? the mayor or Clinton in the 90'a?

Rank and file cops hated Rudy because he jerked our chains about decent pay raises before he got elected then gave us squat when he got in. He also foisted Howard Safir on us, a horrible commissioner. Clinton funded a lot of the police that got hired in the mid 90's with the Safe Streets Safe City Act. As far as who made NYC safer, I will give Rudy the credit. He was the one who mandated it to the Brass. If they didn't get it done, they were out. Bratton changed the whole culture of the department and got the ball rolling, but Rudy ran him off. The cops and a lot of overtime were what got it done on the ground.

As an outsider, I always loved Rudy. I was fortunate enough to hit mid town enough back in the days when he was mayor. Tough city that we as outsiders understood he cleaned up. Every time I go there, which is often, I love it.

Great city. I wish he could get it together. I'd vote him for president. He's more qualified than anyone in the last five elections.

He can definetly lead. But his personal baggage is extensive. Makes Clinton look like a Boy Scout. He wouldn't make it to the end of a primary.
