I have to admit that I am surprised at this move, making the system fair is going to meet with some pretty strong opposition, I wonder if she understands the fire she is playing with here

 

The U.S. Secretary of Education announced proposed changes she said would fix a “failed” and “shameful” system that she believes has been disproportionately unfair to accused students.

 

The rules would create a higher burden of proof for victims of sexual assault to prove a Title IX violation occurred, removing Obama-era regulations that required a "preponderance of the evidence."

How are Title IX violations substantiated? Is this some type of kangaroo court where "facts" are mulled over and some combo of student gubmint/professors decide? I would assume Evergreen will fully implode based on this possibility.

And it did not take long for those opposed to due process and equal protection under the law to go after simple fairness...

I am not sure that she is the right or best person for this role overall, but yes, i do give her credit for standing up to wrong and focusing on what is right, even though it is clear that society has a strong opposition to fairness in general

In the wake of 117 reversals in court, as well as legal scholars from across the political spectrum crying foul, Secretary DeVos has reinstated due process rights for the accused, which had been stripped away under President Obama. It is a win for the Constitution and the rule of law — and something that I applaud as a woman, former college student, and now mother of three sons.
