Russell Westbrook wins NBA MVP for averaging a Triple Double.

Recommended Posts

Why didn't Lebron win finals MVP for averaging a triple double?

:dunno:

Good for him, he deserved it.

I would have had no problem with Harden winning it either, both had phenomenal regular seasons. It's just too bad the regular season is almost meaningless.

Totally meaningless.

But if Westbrook won because he averaged a triple double and his team didn't win sh1T

Why didn't Lebron win for averaging a triple double in the finals?

I can't be expected to read every post completely.

My bad I miss read it. Finals MVP almost always goes to the winning team. For whatever reason the regular season MVP doesn't work that way

But they did win sh1t. They won 47 games in the regular season, which is what the regular season MVP is about.

And the next Russell Westbrook will be coming in the form of Dennis Smith, Jr, and we got him.

My post was 1 sentence :|

anyway.

that's my point.

triple double's don't focking matter. It's a silly, meaningless stat.

Westbrook was not the MVP.

It's obvious Durant was the best player on that team. Westbrook hampered KD as a player.

Westbrook makes teammates and coaches worse.

He's not the MVP of shite

Considering Westbrook average a triple-double couldn't I argue that Durant hampered him?

It's the most valuable player not the best player. You take Westbrook off that team and they probably win 20 to 25 games. Take Duran off Golden State and they still make the finals. Big difference.

How many games do you figure OKC would have won if you replaced Westbrook with a league average player at his position?

Westbrook + Durant = 55 wins and conf finals 4 to 3 in the series.

Westbrook + Triple Double = 47 wins and 1st round loss

Why do you figure Durant may have left?

Who wants to play with a ballhog when you're the better player?

A triple double is not a silly, meaningless stat. It may not be the most important stat in all of sports, but it's a good way to recognize a solid all around offensive player.

It's also quite an accomplishment to average a triple double for an entire season.

Durant's last 5 years in OKC, he averaged: 28, 25, 32. 28 and 28..... and he left bcoz he wasn't getting the ball enough?

I agree Westbrook is Carmelo 2.0, but I'm not sure I'd use Durant as any qualifier for this.. Durant is a sellout with no balls of his own.

when he carded a triple double they were something like 30 and 9.

Most of those 30 were against sh1t teams however (most not all)

MVP is an award all about individual achievement. Finals MVP is more of a "who was the best player on the winning side" award. Averaging a triple double is huge and a good way to win MVP. Also for a ball hog, he still avg 10 assists a game, also 10 a game the prior year. I bet every team wishes they had a ball hog like that. The dude went 31 10 10, he deserved MVP, that's just straight up balling.

Wonder if he wins it if he averages only 9 rebounds.

Nope

Yes: Westbrook led the league in value over replacement player (12.4). He also led the league in +/- and player efficiency rating, and he was in the top ten in both offensive (9) and defensive (8) win shares.

Basketball reference.

I assumed Westbrook had a good year - lots of players score meaningless points but you don't put up those rebound and assist #s unless you're efficient. I am surprised at how well he grades out defensively too.

First I do believe Westbrook deserved the MVP this year. However I don't think you can win like that long term and I don't think you're going to draw any big-name free agents to play with him playing like that.

It's a great achievement and it's great for Russell Westbrook but I don't think it's good for anybody else for his franchise

I believe Steph Curry led the league in +/-. Westbrook wasn't in the top 30 if I recall. I could be wrong though.

Westbrook was 1, Cirry 9.

Who wins it if Russel doesn't? Harden had a full point less per game and 2 rebounds with 1 more assist.

Oh nO! not 1 whole point? :o

Harden wins for his defensive prowess

the day Mo Vaughn beat out Joey Belle for MVP, was the last time MVPs in any league ever meant a fock anyway

edjr, right again.

Westbrook is not a team player and HURTS players that play with him and he also lied about fans calling him racist words
