2017 NFL Draft Thread ***Official***

Do I have to do everything around here? It's in like 8 days for the love of the baby Jesus.

Looks like Myles Garrett is the number one for the Browns unless they get a wild hair and go QB. At #8 I'm hoping a Solomon Thomas or a Johnathan Allen fall to Carolina, if not I like the Great White Hope RB, Christian McCafferey. In all seriousness he'd be a great fit as a compliment (and eventual replacement) to J-Stew.

I'm curious where Joe Mixon goes too as a story-line.

I have seen McCaffrey mocked to them. Makes no sense to me. Cam and that offense would be a waste of his talents. Imagine how dynamic McCaffrey, a white Stanford kid, with teams like Pats, Packers, Saints, ATL, Chargers....

What does that even mean? :dunno:

He'd fit into Carolina's offensive SYSTEM perfectly. Are you saying he needs to have a white QB to be successful or something? :shocking:

Hard to really like anyone for the Packers at 29, no clue who will be there. Whatever they do I hope it isn't a RB in the first 2 rounds. Biggest needs are OLB, CB, RB, G/C. I've seen mocks having Peppers fall to them. Not sure if I would like it, great athlete but no position. He is basically a 1 down dime LB that will be forced into safety at times.

Bills may not botch their 10th pick with McDermitt now coach. But then again they still have Whaley at GM. Options I think are R. Foster, Lattimore, OJ Howard, if one of the safeties fall. Majority of mocks have Mike Williams to the Bills which I think would be a bad pick. Ideally I think they move back for once and gain picks rather than give them away.

Yeah in a way. Not Cam focking Newton. Newton is a front runner, the most naturally gifted player ever at QB. He has a great arm. But he has no touch underneath. He doesn't have near the command of the play or his players at the line of the scrimmage.

Wouldn't you think the best system for a do it all, heady RB would be a complex system or at least a QB who can manipulate defenses at an elite level?

I don't really see what you don't understand. Would Antonio Brown be utilized as well in Carolina as he would in Pitt?

Not saying it is an awful pick. Just seems like an odd fit to me. Power running team meets perimeter runner who can motion all over the play and catch passes in volume.

I don't know if you can really put a finger on those Texas Tech QB's, but I saw an interview with the Mahomes kid, and he definetly seems like a guy who's got it together. I can see him being very attractive to a team after they interview him.

I know becoming a grumpy old man and hating sports is the new trend here, but does anyone care about the draft?

I've always been a fan of the draft. Used to be into huge as a kid. Miss the old school Saturday at Noon all day first 3 rounds. Me and my buddy used to cook breakfast and start drinking screw drivers at 10am for it. We would play drinking games by calling out picks before each selection.

Now with the Thursday 1st round and growing up, it has lost some luster. But still pretty into the draft.

Still like it. Go out and watch it with a few friends, Giants and Cowboy fans. Jet fan friends do their own pathetic thing. The last few years were more interesting and cheaper as the two teams were drafting at the front of the draft. Have to wait longer this year, but the Yanks play the sox that night, so ok.

Kind of excited they're doing the draft in Philly, outdoors on the Parkway.

The Eagles have a lot of needs and should have their pick of good players at 14. If OJ Howard falls to them I would love the pick.

I love the draft and look forward to watching, I'm just not nearly as knowledgeable as you guys on the players coming out of college. As a Lions fan I'm just glad it's Quinn and not Millen making these decisions. God, he was a moron.

Those were some fun years while Millen was doing the drafting....for everyone else, especially Packers fans.

Where do you think R Foster ends up? Probably a top 3 player but could fall pretty far. Whatvsomyiubthink his stopping point is? I say Cincy. Him and Burfect? Call it overkill, but man they would thump.

Mayock said he doesnt expect his few question marks to slide him fown too far.

Id say its probably out of the question now that he goes before the Cincy pick. But yeah Cincy. Not talked about a lot but the Bills could use him. They drafted Ragland last year in the 2nd who then was hurt for the year. But he is a 3-4 guy or 2 down backer. McDermott the Bills new coach seems to favor strong LB play with his MLB having enough range to go sideline to sideline.

Id say his low spot would be 17 to the Redskins. But would imagine quite a few teams may look to jump up once/if he falls out of the top 10.

His concers are a diluted sample at the combine and rotator cuff. They say most all teams arent worried about being sent home from combine as they feel that was way overblown and he shouldnt have been dismissed.

What would your 3 days consist of? Sitting your fat ass in your house and posting here?

Thursday night: My son is being inducted into the National Honor Society. That is a ceremony and a catered dinner.

Friday night: My family and about 20 members from my extended family is going to dinner and then taking in a baseball game.

Saturday: Coaching my son in a soccer game in the morning and then my family is volunteering at a soup kitchen during the afternoon hours.

Soup

Soup kitchen on a Saturday afternoon. Glad it worked out for you, schedule wise.

Defense, defense, defense - that better be our strategy... If a really good WR, TE or RT falls - could possibly consider that.

Hoping we don't trade Butler for the #32... Even though i like having skin in the draft. I'm all for flipping Garoppolo for the Browns 12. If Brady gets hurt Garoppolo isn't winning a SB. I'll be fine with a complete rebuilt post Brady/Belicheck. Rather that than the '87-90 Celtics

True. I would trade the Giants first round pick to have the Patriots soft schedule and division.

Jabrill Peppers had a diluted sample at the combine as well as Foster. I think it hurts Peppers much more. I'm sure some teams love him but many probably don't see much of a fit in their defense. Foster fits in any scheme and is a better prospect.

I'd say Peppers doesn't go in teh first round. Foster goes 9-17.

Peppers seems like a high 2nd round pick to me. And i agree, he is the type of guy you need to make a leap and have some creativity, you have to find reasons to take him as there are structural reasons why you don't. But they said those types of things about Derrick Johnson (tweener, no position but raw talent), but he turned out to be a pretty good player

I think the steelers would take him as well. I think he needs to be on the right team or will become a flop. He isn't very good in pass coverage, I could see him being a Polamalu-type player. No disrespect to Polamalu there.

Yeah Peppers has the raw talent to do well given the right coaching and usage. Deone Bucannon is another one who was a safety/LB who turned into a dime MLB since AZ seems to run a ton of Dime.

The problem I hear about Peppers is he is pretty small for LB. He is plenty fast enough and athletic enough for safety. However he doesn't have very great natural coverage skills. So to me it is that Dime LB role or else he is basically a specialty player who sees limited snaps on defense and heavy snaps on SPTs.

He measured in at just under 5'11 and 213 lbs. With short arms. And I think he added a few of those lbs going into the combine. Perhaps he can add even more weight up to 220 and play OLB in a 4-3.

I just think with as deep as safety and CB are this year that many teams will choose to pass on him if they have a choice.

Patriots don't need safeties. McCourty and Chung have it on lockdown. they need a nickle corner now that Logan Ryan left. Maybe a fit there

Butler is your nickel corner now. They are going to play bigger CB's (Gilmore, Rowe) on the outside and Butler is more of a zone/nickel corner now in their defense. What they need is to have Cyrus Jones not turn into a total bust and make some improvements this year.

Cy Jones is Chris Canty 2.0

Could be. I am not sure that he did so well on the Wonderlic. Canty would dance at the most inopportune time. Jones is just dumb around the ball.

NY Football Giants trade up for CMcCaff ??? Like father like son.

Father Ed will always be simultaneously associated with

9-11.

Always go back to that Monday night at the bar when my starting WR breaks his leg on MNF - and THAT was the worst thing until less then 12 hours later.
