Anyone morel mushroom hunt

Recommended Posts

Took the boy to my favorite spot. Ended up with about 12 the size of my fist. I have them setting right now in water to rinse them off then I'll do egg and milk batter to fry them

The hard part is, I find I have to make my own shells to hunt them.

Really difficult to pour a grain load that'll take them down without destroying them in the process.

FIL does and took me hunting for them. We would drive to different spots and he had eyes like a dam eagle cause he would spot them while we drove, stop, and pick them.

I also hunt for asparagus. I refuse to pay for something I can literally find growing in ditches.

I refuse to eat something growing in a ditch if I can buy it in a store.

I ate a few different species of wild mushrooms when i lived in Montana. I only ever found morels once, but had boletes a few times.

I don't hunt anything, but I've passed psilocybin "magic" mushrooms while hiking.

I also took care of a couple who ingested Amanita phalloides "death cap" mushrooms - he died and she needed a liver transplant within 48 hours. Super toxic.

I agree, going out and finding them yourself just isn't worth the truffle.

One of the more overrated things in this state. Right up there with Frankenmuth Chicken Dinners and Mackinac Island.

Love mushrooms year round. I would use morels in sauces for pastas or steak. Once in a while, sauteed with shallots, garlic, butter, and thyme.
