Have your feelings changed? Carolina is still winning the superbowl, and covering ATS.

Recommended Posts

What I'm saying is for the last week, all I've heard is people don't want to root for the guy because of his race.

I believe that's simply not true. While I'm sure there are some that want him to fail because he's black. Outside of hopefully only the ignorant few, his color has nothing to do with not rooting for him. It's his on field actions that makes everyone I talk to not care for the guy. Myself included.

Everyone has a reason for not liking someone , as for me I'm betting on the Broncos and have already done so and its not based on anything more than I think they can win the Super Bowl , and it's because of Manning or any other player on either side . But I hear the people that don't like Newton because they find him to be to cocky to prideful , they can have their views it's all good with me , but I'm not going to bet on or against somebody based on those issues . Money line is getting better so lay more on it .

I still think Denver can do it, as long as they don't turn the ball over. Especially if Peyton actually tells them this is his last game. They can not only use the no one thinks we can win card, but also the lets do it for Peyton, and have a great qb ride off into the sunset a winner. Ironically enough, ala John Elway.

I'm gonna be real interested just exactly how much pressure Denver can actually put on Cam. That Carolina oline has been great this year. Plus Cam himself is just an athletic monster. I think any sacks they give up will be do to the secondary coverage and not so much the pass rush. But hey, a coverage sack is still a sack. Gettin the man down is all that counts.

I wonder, why is the QB held to some sort of different standard or unwritten code compared to other players regarding how they must (or must not) celebrate after scoring.

Almost every defensive player I can think of who sacks the QB does some sort of celebration.

Almost every top WR in the league is a total diva when they score and they're often flagged for excessive celebrations - that's ok because they're a WR?

Gronks scores and tries to spike the ball as hard as he can, that's ok though.

Cam Dabs or does the Superman pose in the endzone after a rushing TD and that's now an indication of his character?

I know only one thing about Newton , I would never get into a car with him and let him drive .

Elway had some similar stats to Peyton later in his career (look at the first Superbowl Denver won) Elway threw less than 200 yards and an INT and they still won. They won because TD was damn near unstoppable for most of the game and scored 3 touchdowns, plus they got the helicopter TD score from Elway which motivated everyone.

CJA and Hillman need to have career days for Denver to win this, and the D need to be near perfect or create a few turnovers.

It could be, but Carolina are a top 6 defense and they're right behind Denver for stopping the run at #4.

This feels like that David vs. Goliath superbowl matchup where maybe, just maybe we get a shocking upset Like the Broncos beating Green Bay, NE winning their first superbowl against the greatest show on turf, or NYG beating the undefeated Patriots. More than likely though, Carolina blows them up.

Yea don't know what's going to happen , Panthers could just blow them out , but I'm sold on that's not going to happen and it shows based on my pick .

Why can't disdain for a player and his actions between the lines be separated from any perception of a player off the field? Personally, I don't care one bit about any NFL player or what they do (or don't do) outside the 60+ minutes of game time they occupy on my TV, and I'm willing to guess that a lot of those that are not fans of Cam feel the same.

What I interpret the majority of Kopy's post as saying (minus the "meeting on the street" part) is he doesn't appreciate the superfluous junk in game. Now, a case can easily be made for multiple quarterbacks. Brady does excessive celebrations and mannerisms after a play. The aforementioned Rivers did the same. Those two are both white. Some people simply don't like this stuff. It's not just relegated to quarterbacks either. It's nearing over-the-top status.

A team is backed up inside their own 10 yard line and someone gets a first down by a yard and they act like they just scored the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. It rubs people the wrong way. It's not a race issue. It can be viewed it as a lack of professionalism. Julian Edelman does it, Emmanuel Sanders does it, Greg Olsen does it, etc.

Yeah it's a young man's game. It should be fun. But it can be fun without having to showboat consistently. It's the old-school fan mentality of "give the ball to the official" and "act like you've been there before." Personally, I wish the NFL had been overzealous on attacking the celebrations after plays and left the touchdown dances to the creativity of it's players. Again, not a black vs white thing that the media has based it's reporting on. It's a professionalism vs. flamboyance issue

You make worthy points. As kids most of us remember Billy White Shoes Johnson and his TD celebration on Howard Cosell's halftime highlights. Well, some of us older folks do. I'm ok with players expressing themselves, though I respect the Marcus Allen way as well. Hell I even appreciated the comedic element of T.O. grabbing a set of cheerleader pom poms. However grandstanding on the Dallas Star at midfield... probably not. Somebody asked a hockey player once why there was very little smack talk in hockey. His answer?

"Because we play with sticks..."

Football is violent enough without angrying up the blood in a man. We saw enough of that in the Cincinnati - Pittsburgh game. The taunting and showboating OUTSIDE of the end zone needs to stop.

As for Newton... While he is a very special athlete I just don't think he's a special QB. Yet. What makes him dangerous is his running with the football. He ran for 636 yards and 10 TDs this year. His 132 carries would put him 37th among league RBs. A credible stat in lieu of the NFLs preponderance for committee backfields. He has over 600 carries for his career. Man of steel or no, in the NFL that's going to wear on you. In Rich Gannon's first year as a Raider he rushed for 600 yards and took a beating. He never came close to that again. I'm wondering how many years Cam has left as a runner. More closer to home, Denver has some pretty fast LBs.

Speaking of defenses, Carolina faced only five Top 10 passing defenses all season, playing a very weak schedule. They WILL be tested against Denver. Newton averaged 239 passing yards a game, with six games UNDER 200 yards. He had two horrific games, against Philly in week 7 and on the road against Atlanta with the undefeated season on the line in Week 16. I think the primary cause of Carolina being in this game has been the stellar play of its offensive line. And I don't see Newton a premier passing QB.

Yet.

One of the two Broncos rbs will have that career day.

No, they won't.

Why?

A....they aren't good enough.

B....they will get behind early and have to abandon the run

C....Denvers passing game isn't good enough for the Panthers to have to commit extra players to stopping it.

$10 Squares. $150, $200, $150 and $500

I got Carolina 3 Denver 3

My wife Carolina 1 Denver 8

My daughter Carolina 4 Denver 5

So even if the game isn't interesting, I'll at least have something to root for.

Regarding squares...it will be interesting to see if extra points serve as the great equalizer this season. In the past few super bowls, the safeties have come up big.

I'm loving Cams post game interview. I feel vindicated on my opinion of him.

With my Cam opinion aside though. That Carolina team is still a good young team, with a payroll thats in order. They're not going anywhere. I'm sure Seattle will be seeing them plenty more times in the playoffs in the years to come.

Ok so I feel myself and many other people really underestimated the impact of that Denver defense.

Cam clearly has some maturing to do as a QB, watching him roll around on the sidelines like a 4 year old didn't do any favours for his image. Also leaving the press conference and refusing to take off his hoodie and answer questions like a damn professional was pretty bad.

That said, these post game pressers are complete BS when the loser has to come out right after a heartbreaking loss and face the press. It seems like a lot of these reporters just want their pound of flesh. "I know this must make you sad, but tell us how sad, how does this make you feel?"

Anyway, I'm happy with the result, even though it was a hella ugly and boring game to watch.

It's ridiculous. And the NFL justifies it by having their "10 minute cooling off" period. Like 10 minutes is going to wipe away the disappointment of something like the Super Bowl. But if the media doesn't have the soundbytes immediately afterwards, they can't keep the well-oiled machine spinning during the down time of the NFL offseason.

While I agree with the premise of this comment, the bolded never stops you from listening to everything the media says as fact.

Post Superbowl loser interview should be done well after the game. Players are pretty raw. That said, to be fair, Peyton went out there and faced the music after getting hammered by the Seahawks.

He answered the questions with class and gave full responses. Newton should have done the same. They should have given him more time to get dressed so he's not out there in a hoodie and his football pants.

Edit: Wilson went out and faced the music with class as well:

Newton should have known this was coming if he lost. I think teams need to invest in media relations training for their star players.

There is, its called being a grown up and ignoring people you dont want to interact with.

Clearly you are not a grown up, see me, I like interacting with the uneducated. I like providing people with knowledge.

Clearly a lot of old timers like you who post here do not create enough activity on this site, so clearly a lot of the old timers opinions are not whats valued here. I plan to change that, with my wealth of knowledge and educating the old geriatric group here like you who provide nothing but the stuff I can see on ESPN as well as rhetoric and hyperbole.

i'm providing more discussion than you can dream of, problem is people like you cant understand the discussion. That old geriatric problem I talked about.

Aaron, I give you this advice free of charge:

Take some of your obvious smarts and invest in a 'How To Talk To Other People Without Being A Condescending Pr!ck' manual. Anyone who doesn't share your opinion gets shouted down and/or condescended to for voicing their thoughts. On a bored where we have been for years before you arrived and are supposed to be sharing thoughts and prognostication for the fantasy football we all enjoy. Your superior attitude and constant belittling/baiting have grown old.

Your first post I read about top ten rookies next year was very good. You have had other good posts here and there, interspersed with a whole lot of combative drivel about facts, people who don't know anything, your lawyer wife and assorted other insults. Stop being a d!ck or GTFO dude. Make your points without condescension or derision - can you actually do that superior intellect internet guy? Be nice for focks sake! I don't care about your opinion of Freeman, I care that you're a raging pr!ck to anyone who voices a different opinion about it. Discussion is what this place is for. Go troll somewhere else.
