DamageIncVacc 6 Posted July 5, 2014 Any chance of getting the suspension cut down from 16 to 8 or 10 games out the window. Slim chance we see him play again this year and possibly for a long time. Last thing he needs is football.he needs help .

BigMilk 40 Posted July 5, 2014 Reached for him in every draft last year, guy was a beast. Too bad he went to the Titus Young school of career management. See you in 2015 Josh - maybe. Most likely this is a fitting end to a tragic career.

Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted July 5, 2014 I have listened to a lot of radio talk about problem players in general. Its interesting to hear how many players look back and say they wish they had listened to those offering help. The biggest correlation is that they just dont give half a fock about advice, even if its from those who have been through it. We have all been young and made questionable decisions, but it still amazes me the lack of common sense some of these guys show.
WhiteWonder 2,171 Posted July 5, 2014 WhiteWonder, u have a collect call from inmate Gordon. will u accept the charges? of course this comes right after i posted the news of his appeal being scheduled oh well, like i said several times he wasn't factoring into my plans for this year. I was taking a shot on possibly having a keeper for next season. Though i'm thinking he will end up going down the Blackmon route now.

WhiteWonder 2,171 Posted July 5, 2014 that's the best part. ur right tho, u didn't invest much, so no worries. nothing wrong w/ a big swing, sometimes we miss. im not sure my thoughts when i acquired him have changed much. I wasn't expecting to get any production from him this year but rather to keep him for next season. While there is NO WAY he won't miss the year now, i'll have to wait and see how it shakes out in terms of him being reinstated for 2015. but then again if the dude can't stay out of trouble then it won't matter at all
lesjroza 70 Posted July 5, 2014 Josh Gordon failed 2 drugs tests at Baylor & 1 at Utah. In CLE: One 2-game ban, 1 pending 16-game ban, 1 "passenger" cited for weed, 1 DWI. also Career highlights and awards Pro Bowl (2013) First-team All-Pro (2013) NFL Receiving yards leader (1,646) (2013) PFWA Player of the Year (2013) Only player in NFL history with consecutive 200-yard receiving games in the regular season Most receiving yards in four-game span (774) in NFL history Most receiving yards in single season (1,646) in Browns history (2013) Most receiving yards in single game (261) in Browns history Most receptions in a game (14) in Browns history (tied Ozzie Newsome) Most 100-yard receiving games in a single season (7) in Browns history (2013) GRRRRR. I had that offer outstanding for him in a dynasty league but cancelled quickly. I go back and forth on whether he is buyable now. I personally would not buy him on a dynasty roster where I am currently a top team if it has 17 or less roster slots. I don't want to be saddled by the tied up roster slot before injuries etc, even start to pile up at this point. The risk/reward is just not worth it to me when I factor in the downside of the tied up slot. In a league where I am building toward a top team the price I am willing to pay has to go down after this news. I have the optimistic, "root for the comeback/underdog" side of me that still thinks he is worth buying but quite honestly the greedy "buy low bargain" side of me is completely tamed at this point. The Moz 69 Posted July 5, 2014 AS a Pro football player you have like a 10 year window if you're good to earn serious money to set you up for life. Gordon was maybe the 2nd or 3rd most talented wr in football and just blew up his career. Also do Pro athletes just have no idea how to drive after they had a few or do Cops just know what cars they are in and target them.

I think anybody who gets pulled over in that situation is going to be closely examined.

BobSanders_33 127 Posted July 5, 2014 So many things can be discussed on this topic. Right now I am going to assume the Josh Gordon does not play another meaningful game in the NFL. There is no chance he plays in 2014. Without team activities and out in the world to do what he wants I can't see football being important enough to this kid to stay out of trouble. I have doubts that he will be ready to or even allowed to play in 2015. #1, How can these kids not have 24/7 limos?! When you have millions of dollars to spend and millions of dollars to earn it is crazy to drive drunk/with drugs/with weapons/citations/accidents. Out service the job of someone to drive 100% of the time and get yourself a Maybach or Bently! Josh Gordon lost a chance at 10s of millions of dollars and several other pro athletes have lost large amounts of money driving. #2. IF JG never plays again where does he go down in the history of 1 hit wonders? His numbers last year were historic so it would have to go down as the greatest of all time. What other players had 1 epic year of production to never being heard of again?

The year ban kills him professionally. He'll be tipping back purple drank with JaWalruss every Sunday from here on out. Done.

Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted July 6, 2014 He has a chance to play if he reaches out and gets Aldon smiths lawyer You dont mean play this year, correct? I dont think it will be the law that stands in his way. Goddell loves to make an example of players who have any type of run in with the law, so i dont see why gordon will be any different. Also, like other posters have said he obviously isnt disciplined enough to keep up with football shape while outside of the game.
WhiteWonder 2,171 Posted July 6, 2014 i just dont see him stopping the weed. i mean, knowing you would likely have to face goodell, how do you get pulled over in a car with a "friend with weed"? stay in your focking house! as if 3+ failed tests were not enough. DamageIncVacc 6 Posted July 6, 2014 Sounds like the Browns have had enough NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says doubt is creeping in whether Josh Gordon will ever play for the Browns again. Thanks to otherworldly talent, the Browns used a 2012 second-round supplemental pick on Gordon even though he had been kicked off of Baylor's team and subsequently failed a drug test at Utah. They then stuck by him through a two-game suspension last year, and publicly supported him after a recent failed drug test and a "passenger" getting cited for weed. But Saturday morning's DWI in North Carolina may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Gordon will almost certainly be suspended for the entire 2014 season, and is far from a lock to be reinstated in 2015.
Kent 228 Posted July 6, 2014 He will be back. Didn't that Leonard Little murder a guy in a dwi and play again. And Donte Stallworth. If you play after dwi murders you aren't out of the league.
BobSanders_33 127 Posted July 6, 2014 He will be back. Didn't that Leonard Little murder a guy in a dwi and play again. And Donte Stallworth. If you play after dwi murders you aren't out of the league. I don't think anyone is saying that the NFL is going to issue a lifetime ban because of this incident. The thinking is that with JG being away from team activities he will not be able to stay out of trouble and committed to coming back. The not playing again is a choice he is making with his behavior and lack of maturity. We are talking about a kid that failed 2 drug tests at Baylor, gets booted from Utah, then fails 2 drug tests in the NFL. At that point does he think maybe it is time to play things safe and focus on a multimillion dollar career? No. He gets pulled over in a car with pot. Now might be a good time to stay out of trouble for a few months while fighting suspension? No. He gets popped for a DUI. It is pretty clear this kid doesn't believe playing football is a priority. BigMilk 40 Posted July 6, 2014 This is the best: Following his Saturday morning DWI arrest, suspended Browns WR Josh Gordon was bailed out of jail by Haydn "Fats" Thomas, a convicted felon. Thomas, 39, has four aliases and an "extensive criminal background," including five known arrests in five different North Carolina counties. "Many of his charges are drug and gun related," although Thomas has somehow never served prison time. Thomas' last reported arrest came in December 2012, when he was charged with three felony marijuana violations and possession of a firearm.
lesjroza 70 Posted July 6, 2014 EVEN IF that dude's intentions were entirely altruistic, help coming from him is not going to sit well with the league. Drop another pound on the side of the scale weighted to him not making it back for me. http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/07/05/3012727/felon-who-rented-car-in-hairston.html

R8RMick 242 Posted July 8, 2014 I once kept Michael Turner on my keeper roster for an entire year while he rode the bench in SD, just in anticipation of his pending free agency. The question now isn't whether the kid plays again, but whether the potential future worth warrants the roster spot. For all his ignorance, he's still a physical beast at WR. Will he lose that after one year off? Even a moderate drop off, if placed in the right situation, could still lead to substantial production.
