Do you drink (alcohol) every day / what time do you start?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering about Geek alcohol cosumption.

Me = I try not to drink every day. Probably 5 days a week on average. And unless it's a special day or sporting event, I try not to start before 6 PM. Then I TRY to quit an hour before bedtime which is usually midnight.

The reason I ask is we're going on vacation in a few days. And I've been watching webcams of some of our destinations. People in those bars are drinking as early as 9-10 AM. I'm pretty sure I've almost never drank alcohol that early. Shiit, I'd be drunk by afternoon and sleep the day away.

You?

You can't drink all day if you don't start right away in the morning.

Almost never when I have to work the next day. Most of the year, only Friday and Saturday.

I probably drink 8 days a week. Usually not before 4:30pm, but I occassionally start at noon on the weekends. On vacation, I sometimes start early. If I am playing golf, I will start before 8. :dunno:

Don't drink as much now as when I was younger. Try to skip at least one or two nights a week.

Often only one drink in the evening, often a glass of wine with Mrs Old School.

Other days? It's on as soon as I get off work. Those are most often fueled by anger or disappointment, and are seldom "fun drunks."

As for vacation- fock it. If its all inclusive, get a good breakfast and the get an early start on drinking.

After your mid day nap, you will be ready for the evening.

My alcohol consumption has dropped significantly since I started working in an office again, as opposed to working from home. That was a couple years ago. Now it's 1-2 days on the weekend generally. But vacation is different. Why wouldn't you start early, especially if you're at a resort of some type? I went to vegas for a week last summer and drank every day and most days started early.

I never drink before noon, even on vacation. It's a personal rule of mine.

Probably drink five nights a week...too many, would like to cut that down to two or three. But I don't drink a lot, a couple glasses of wine or three beers at most. The occasional scotch or bourbon on the rocks, but those are my weaknesses so I try not to indulge too often.

Except on rare occasions, every evening. Usually start around 6-ish; I'll open a bottle of wine as my wife is preparing dinner. Weekends we might start a little earlier if we aren't going out (which is most weekends), and drink 1.5 bottles.

That is a decent idea to stop an hour before bed, maybe I'll start doing that.

Except on rare occasions, never during the day. Maybe at a sports bar to watch a game, which we don't do often. My wife hates drinking during the day because she gets really tired afterward. For me, once I start drinking I like to keep drinking; I get really tired if I have a few drinks during the day and then stop.

If I drink before noon its a Bloody Mary playing golf and its a rare occasion. Vast majority of drinking is a couple beers, one before dinner, one with and maybe one after.

Rarely have more than 3-4 beers.

in the winter:

weekdays- we usually open a bottle of wine with dinner or have a beer or two (about every other night). if i make mexican, we'll have one or two margaritas.

weekends- 2-4 bottles of wine from fri-sun. sundays i typically have about 2-3 biers while watching football.

summer (days are longer, weather is warmer):

grill almost every day. hang out outside on the patio a bit and either have wine wine, beer, blended drinks, or cocktails. weekdays about 2 each. weekends about double that.

i usually do not drink before 11-12. rare occasions will have bloodies early.

vacations- depends on what the plans are and if i am driving. when in vegas, the drinking can start early and go late.

A couple of you have mentioned Vegas; my experience back in my younger days was that I'd be up late drinking and need the following day to recover. Rinse and repeat. Only time I remember drinking during the day was a guys trip where we rented a cabana by the pool (great way to kill the day in Vegas); we had some drinks flowing but it was a slow trickle.

If you have 3-4 beers every night is that really considered drinking ? Not being a wiseass just asking.

Most days of the week, 5-6. I don't drink more than maybe 3 beers on work nights? Weekends maybe 5-6.

I had a super productive day: Got a little work done, went to the gym and took junior to the playground and then the zoo. Now I'm going to reward myself with a beer.

Pretty much every day but not until the kids go to bed. A glass of wine or a beer or Jameson and ginger. Weekends...maybe 3 drinks unless we're going out with friends then 5-6. Will have one when we go out to dinner as a family...will never have more if I'm driving kids.

Once or twice a week I have a few bourbons.

A bit more during the season when I will have a few and a couple beers on game day.

On vacation...depending where I am, I will have a few each day. But usually not til late afternoon.

Beach vacation...yeah, a few drinks or beers on the beach or poolside.

If a golf vacation with friends...then I may start earlier on the course.

Vegas...not sure Im awake early enough to drink early...but if I was, would be starting the day with a bloody mary or screwdriver anyway.

I drink a glass of wine after work, with dinner or before bed.

It helps me fall asleep because I tend to drink a double espresso every work day.

I just started this no junk food diet so I've given up the coffee and the wine. (along with bread, chocolate, peanut butter, chips, soda, pastries, cookies etc. I'm hoping to quit the need to feel energized with coffee and the need wind down with wine.)

On vacation I tend to only drink in the evening....maybe a cocktail at the pool.

:o So I was being criticized by a bunch of alcoholics. Try staying sober for a week or more and then see how normal or mental you all are.

I had fourteen beers, three shots of Rumpleminze, and a half pint of vodka Friday and Saturday. Tonight I'll take it easy and have ten beers and a half pint of vodka.

I drank 3,800 beers last year if my math and law of averages are correct. And I don't shop at Lane Bryant.

I don't have a set schedule,if I feel like it I drink,I've gone a couple of weeks before with absolutely nothing but then again I've drank daily for a month.I take an annual March Madness trip to Vegas with the boys and then it's early and often for six straight days with usually a week off when I get home.

Every trip I've taken to Vegas I've pretty much drank the whole time I've been awake whilst there. Thankfully those trips are normally only 3 or 4 days long

I think it's been 6 weeks since I've had a beer?

It's becoming less and less frequently I drink at all. It hasn't been a conscious "I quit" thing nor was there "an incident"It slowly just tapered itself off.

I'm starting to seriously consider just being done with it entirely unless a special occasion.

I don't enjoy the way it makes me feel lethargic the next day. My stomach is either sour or bloaty feeling depending on what I drink. If I get drunk it takes me days to recover.

I think I'm just better without it.
