Mike Honcho 4,010 Posted January 17, 2018 A little cold and windy in MI, hope your forecast is a little nicer. As usual, I'm looking forward to another day at the geek club with lively, thoughtful and respectful debate on todays current topics.
Mungwater 588 Posted January 17, 2018 It was sleeting in Houston, another freeze today, city is basically shut down again. Its 19 degrees here. They just dont have the equipment to handle ice, it just shuts everything down.

I'm guessing most of your closets aren't filled with cold weather clothes.
dain11279 927 Posted January 17, 2018 It was 0 this morning when I went to work. This is normally the time of year when this kind of cold is just starting. We've been going through it for a good month already at this point. Winter can get hit by a bus as far as I'm concerned.

Thats a problem, and the one non-army beanie and pair of gloves I do have I left on the course of the marathon Sunday.

wiffleball 4,631 Posted January 17, 2018 It was sleeting in Houston, another freeze today, city is basically shut down again. Its 19 degrees here. They just dont have the equipment to handle ice, it just shuts everything down. I remember our parent company was European and they were flat-out pissed when we close the office one time. I can't blame them, seeing as how they had about 10 foot snow drifts and we had -no kidding -the threat of ice. What I had to explain to them is it's not just a lack of clothing or equipment or sanding Vehicles things like that, it's our very architecture of our roads. We have flyovers that turn into fuucking luge runs with even a hint of ice. You wouldn't build something like that in Norway or Iceland or Sweden. But in Houston sure no big deal - usually. Thinking ,610 to 59. Frick, that's scary enough when it's dry. I would bet it's at least a hundred and ten foot drop.
wiffleball 4,631 Posted January 17, 2018 The other problem with Houston on a day like today is you would literally have to wear Beachwear and bring a desk fan to the office today. southern women just do not understand the concept of climate control. A day like today? I'll guarantee you they will nag the maintenance people until the ambient temperature inside the building is approximately 96 degrees. See honey, the concept is, if you find somebody to to be pleasant indoors when it's 90 degrees outside, then it will be pleasant indoors when it's 60 degrees outside too. Why is that so freaking hard for women to understand?

Reality 2,710 Posted January 17, 2018 Holding steady at 9 in my neck of the woods. About 8 or so inches on the ground from the weekend, Southern Indiana, we don't get this extreme to often. They are calling for 50's by Sunday, that's how we roll on this area.. Everybody will be nice and sick with that sort of temp swing. Good times.

frank 2,144 Posted January 17, 2018 I am a giant dumbass. I just made an unnecessary trip across town to the bank. I hit a big patch of ice and fishtailed two or three times before I straightened it out. Luckily, no one was next to me because I definitely would have hit them. The bank was closed. Voltaire 4,554 Posted January 17, 2018 I wore a sweater the day before last but not yesterday. Usually spring comes by mid-January so hopefully that's the end of it. And forget snow, I haven't even seen my breathe frost since the winter before last. Got a lifetime's worth of winters in the first 30 years of my life. Don't miss it.
