Ric Flair announces his daughter’s engagement to a guy wrestling fans know well

Wrestling icon Ric Flair announced on Twitter Tuesday that his daughter just got engaged.

The assumption, of course, is that he’s talking about daughter Charlotte, a Charlotte-native who is an increasingly popular wrestling star for the WWE.

But no, this is Megan Fliehr, his other daughter and Charlotte’s half sister.

“I want to announce the engagement of my beautiful daughter Megan to my good friend Conrad Thompson! My heart is full of love and happiness for both of you!” tweeted Flair, who has three surviving children. “So proud and honored to walk my little girl down the aisle.”

The wedding date wasn’t mentioned.

The tweet prompted thousands of reactions, including some who asked if Flair was “ribbing” wrestling fans, who are very familiar with future son-in-law Conrad Thompson. (Apparently, it’s not a joke.)

A story posted in November on the web site Al.com says Thompson is a 36-year-old Alabama native who owns and runs 1st Family Mortgage in Huntsville, while hosting a pair of globally popular wrestling podcasts.

Those podcasts include “Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard” and “What Happened When?” with Tony Schiavone, both on the MLW Radio Network and iTunes. The story goes on to say his podcast career started with meeting Ric Flair, who is a close friend.

“To call him a fan seems a disservice to Thompson, who's more of a pro wrestling historian,” says writer Ben Flanagan of Al.com.
