Id look at taking Iowa State +17.

We really only get up for game a year and this is it....at home. And Iowas offense is horrible. This game really doesnt get far into the 20's. So to beat ISU by 17...might be a stretch

OK, I am no great handicapper, but I want to put forth games I am looking at for your amusement.

WV -16.5 Maryland - I think WV has to make a statement the rest of the season, I see them loading up on all competition

Buffalo Penn ST -34 - see WV

Fresno St Oregon -16.5 - watched the ducks beat my coogs and Mich, know nothing about Fresno, but think they can handle them easily, especially at home.

Houston -15 Tulane - Homer pick first off, but I think the coaches get them back up after the way they faded against the ducks and make this the "first game of season"

Louisville -6.5 Kentucky - its freaking Louisville, oh and the over as already stated

BC GT -7 - Wreck wants to prove the first 2 wins weren't luck, especially after ND lost game 2. I like GT, but I can see BC teaching them the error of their ways also (if I play this it will be after more info

Texas Tech -28 Rice - buddy went to Rice and all I can say is they are Rice

Hawaii -17.5 UNLV - they will want to kill their opponents after playing on the mainland 2 weeks in a row, especially after close win prior week.

Gentleman, enjoy my picks. Whether for amusement or information.

Unless the game is on TV somewhere I don't think Sportsbook has totals. I'll probably ride your coattails for college. I know you, Hurricane Ditka, and philly are 3 solid cappers. I know some college, but not as much as you all.

Seems about right, looking into that. Also leaning early towards Arizona State and Washington State. Arizona States D and Rudy Carpenter came alive in the 2nd half of last week and now face a team in SDSU that just got murdered at Wazoo, back to back road games against much better competition. Washington State should have their way comfortably with Idaho, lots of time until then though.

Good Luck!!

Olympic Sportsbook (The Greek) has totals for all games, Im sure Giants Rule will appear sooner than later with that information for you. Also Sportsbook.com is now on board with all the totals as well, not sure who else.

Good Luck!!

I thought Sportsbook wasn't giving totals for all games. If they are then sweet because that's the book I use.

One game someone posted earlier that I kinda disagree on is WVU/Maryland. I'm not sure WVU should be favored by that much. I'll wait to see what the masses think.

I’ll throw a couple games out that I like even though I tend to just ride the coattails of Ditka and friends.

USC –10 … LSU made their statement on national TV last week and closed the gap in the polls. USC’s turn on national TV this week. Carroll had a extra week of preparation, which seems like would work in USC’s favor. Make it USC 45 Nebraska 17

Cinci –9 … Don’t think the lines are keeping up with Brian Kelly and Cinci. Think Cinci is still benefiting from the defense established by Dantonia before he left to take the job at MSU while also benefiting from the offense Brian Kelly is establishing. Brian Kelly is a great coach (reference CMU’s record and line against the spread last year). Make it Cinci 38 Miami (OH) 10

Western Michigan +20 … WMU was favored to win the MAC and already has played a tough road game at West Virginia. They are battle tested. Going to Missouri won’t compare. Make it Missouri 35 WMU 24

Grind:

I like your plays here. I haven't been impressed with what were supposed to be the strengths of NU (QB and LB). I feel like they both struggled against Wake. It is a matter of time before Keller improves, but it won't be against a defense like USC.

I worry about Cincinnati. I love their defense and their ability to create turnovers. However, their offense was not good last week. That game was much closer than the score. But for the turnovers the D got, I think OSU would have won the game. With that being said, turnovers are part of the game. I love the attitude that Dantonio has brought. I do think that this line is off though. I feel like people are remembering the past Miami teams and not looking closely enough at the current one. This one is not that good. Sure, they played Minnesota close, but they are HORRIBLE!! Also, keep in mind that Miami is without two offensive linemen. I think Cincy's D will have a very good day. Also, Cincy is 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11. I would lay the points here.

WMU is a nice play. Missouri has looked decent, but they are far from dominant. WMU is better than their recent scores have indicated. The only thing that worries me is that this game is at Missouri, where the Tigers are 7-1 ATS in their last 8.

Good Luck!

WV crushes easily as MD is terrible. MD only scored 25 on Fla Intl and 19 of those were off of turn overs.

I like Air Force plus the points at home though.

I'll be at the GT/BC game and I am betting its a close game. GT can run well and their defense is very good. Could go either way, but in the end you gotta take the points.

Guest _my_2_cents_

By the way - you're all welcome for Oregon over Michigan. I got them +8 in Vegas and put $100 semolians on it. I should have bet $1000 instead.

:shocking:

People in the book were shocked - SHOCKED by that game. Eeeeeeeeverryone loved Michigan coming off a loss at home. "No way they lose in the Big House 2 weeks straight to another low brow team like Oregon!" - Eeeeeeeeeeeeeveryone in there looked like they got kicked in the teef that whole game. I sat there smirking like the cat that done and swallowed the canary....I wanted to whoop it up but I was a'skeer'd that I'd get my ass kicked by 400 angry losers. :first:

But it should have been obious - I mean, Michigan didn't get faster in a week.

Greyhound, why do you have to be such a jerk who cares when he posts! Philly has been around this forum for a long while and he helps a lot of people stay in the positive if you don't like him then don't post but the rest of us happen to enjoy Philly and his writeups. if he has a lot of Dr Bobs picks then that is fine Dr Bob has been proven over the last few years! So get a clue and stop talking ###### about philly. We don't care what you think or have to say!

You working out with Eli, trying to heal that shoulder strained from patting yourself on the back?

Taking Oregon and the points wasn't that big a deal. I saw several pundits, here and elsewhere, do just that.

Two things that I've found aren't very welcome here are those gloating over their success...especially when limited to one pick of a team from a power conference vs another...and those gloating over another's misfortune. Both equally worthless.

I spend most of my time posting at this site wearing several hats. One minute I'm a sociopath going on furious rants. Another minute I'm a sarcastic ass. Another minute, I go for the joke. Believe me, the Geek Bored is a cauldron of interesting personalities, and I have several different personas. If you are trying to get to me, good luck. I feel nothing is off limits for humor or ball busting, so you have your work cut out. But the exception to the rule are the gambling threads. These are typically the only threads were I try to act like a human being. But in all sincerity, good luck with whatever you are doing. You obviously haven't read too many of my posts at this site.

So, let's reviews some of my techniques in picking games, which I've posted in the past few years in bits and pieces. Typically, on Tuesday and Wednesday, I'll make a full list of games, opening lines, current lines, and % of where the betting public is going with their action. I'll start going over last weekend's box scores, current statistics, trends, intangible game situations, revenge angles, look ahead games, scheduling, etc. I use several different colored markers, and identify games that I like and how much I like a side by color. I'll cross games off with a black Sharpie. And I wait, everyday reading as much as I can on every single game on the board. Every game, every week. Hours and hours and hours of work.

Now, how does Dr Bob enter the picture? I've said over and over again, the last two years, I respect his handicapping, and have for many years now, and based on his writeups and one of my gambling buddies semi-regular phone conversations with him, I came to realize a few years ago that he looks at games in a very similar fashion. I have nothing to apologize for, because it's like having a second opinion by someone that is looking at the exact same things. Sure, I end up on the same sides as him quite frequently. But you have to understand, I've already decided on games that I like. I will wait on his picks, to see if he agrees. If he does, the games a play. If he disagrees, I go back, and try to figure out what I missed. Maybe I'll still play the game, maybe I won't. And since I don't want to go out on that ledge early without that second opinion, basically there is no reason for me to post early and go against one of his picks. He is the only handicapper that makes me second guess my picks. And I suspect that some of the folks reading these threads week to week are doing something similar. They wait to see what I'm playing, what Hurricane Ditka is playing, what Yer Mom is playing, or any of the other guys that are doing well. They will compare those picks to their own picks, and put in their games, or take another look if they are on an opposite side. That's called being smart. Comparing notes.

Last week, I had a nice turn around week in the NCAA, and am currently in the plus numbers. A big part of the that turn around was going 7-2 on my 3 units plays, my top plays of the week:

Cincinnati(W)

Middle Tenn St(W)

Washington(W)

Air Force(W)

Central Michigan(W)

Hawaii(L)

2nd H Air Force(W)

2nd H Central Mich(W)

2nd H Hawaii(L)

Now, lets examine these games. The ONLY game that Dr Bob had as pick was Cincinnati. One. Just one. Which I posted Wednesday night. Dr Bob released his plays on Thursday night. So, realistically, they were all my plays. Now that doesn't mean that I won't have larger plays on Bob games in the future. Hell, if one of my picks agrees with Hurricane Ditka, I might bump it to 3 units too. But there is a method to my madness.

So that is the end of this long post. Love my picks. Hate my picks. I don't care. I am posting for my own amusement. I don't have to post at all. But I'm a superstitious fellow who seems to do well posting college football at this site, and this site only. And remember, you are focking around with a guy that has a quote from American Psycho in his sig, a comment about punching Mother Teresa in her box in "location", and has made comments/jokes about AIDS, cancer, SIDS, disembowelments, screwing dead people, killing hookers, burying people alive, chewing someone's face off....you get the idea. For fock's sake, how smart is that? So I suggest you go back to ripping on others. You are wasting your time with me. I swear, you are like the living embodiment of Mongo, the retard that Matt Dillon was talking about in There's Something About Mary. I bet you don't mind being put in a leash attached to a clothesline so you can run around a bit. And I bet you like to dig.

Good luck with your games this week, you goofy mongoloid. I mean that.

Edit: The rest of you knuckleheads, don't worry about defending me. I can handle myself. But thanks anyway.

Hey philli just wondering your thoughts on the games thursday...... Both home dogs figured u would be on atleast one of these.

I'm ever so slightly leading to West Virginia and TCU right now. Just not feeling the dogs in those games. I bet against Maryland last week, and Flor Int covered easily. Air Force beat a shorthanded Utah team last week, and TCU has defended their running game decently the last few years. Plus, Air Force is going with more of a spread offense this year, an offense in transition.

But I am liking Troy on Friday on first glance.

I have off from work the next two days, so I'll post tomorrow's plays sometime early in the afternoon.

NCAAF YTD: 29-15-0 +18.25 units

NFL YTD: 0-1-0 -1.05 units

WEST VIRGINIA -16.5 @ MARYLAND 3 units

West Virginia has too much speed for Maryland's front and secondary. I dont' see how this game will be even close. Maryland's QBs have yet to throw with much success and WV's run D should stop a few drives. The only chance I see Maryland cover is if their RB's Lattimore and Ball continue their success from last two games. Just not sure I can believe in Maryland's ability to keep it close with a 35% 3rd down conversion rate last week @ Florida Intl, and scoring only 26 after capitalizing on 2 turnovers. WV covers this handily.

TCU @ AIRFORCE +8 2 units

TCU no longer has the depth on offense as it used to. In fact, the only offensive player that AF has to worry about is Aaron Brown (who is questionable for the game!). QB Andy Dalton has been impressive for his first year against Baylor and somewhat against Texas, but still needs more games under his belt to build his confidence. I believe Air Force will keep it close, and perhaps even eek out a win here as they will find large holes in TCUs run D. Most importantly, AF has K Ryan Harrison who has the accuracy and distance to put up a few FGs to offset a score or two from TCU. As long as AF protects the ball when they run, I don't see a blowout so I'll take the points at home.

I'll lock in my bets later tonight so I would appreciate any other insight that other people may have.

For those of you on Cincy, just a word of caution. I'm not saying it's a bad pick. But Cincy and Miami OH is a big time rivalry backyard brawl. And Miami OH has been a dog of 6 and 8.5, and covered both of their games this year, in back door fashion. Miami is improved, and Cincy is improved. Weird things happen in rivalry games, especially laying almost double digits on the road. I've bet both teams in every lined game thus far this year, with very nice results, but something has to give.

Just some food for thought.

In the immortal words of Seargent Hulka, lighten up Francis.

I never gloated over ANYONE's misfortune. In fact I respectfully didn't jump around cheering when I hit my wager....i pulled a Barry Sanders - and walked up and handed the man my ticket without a word.

In a game I lost the whole book was going bananas, and I didn't want to be "that guy"

I wasn't gloating, but I was the only one on record in week 2. If you listened to me, you made money. There ya go. You're welcome.

Nothing to worry about. I think JT was just saying that a couple of others in this thread took Oregon this weekend too. Granted, Michigan might have been a "public" choice, but the guys in this thread are pretty sharp and are not the "betting public" Hell, I know that I had a 2 unit bet on Oregon as well. It's been established that when a highly ranked team loses for the first time, the popular opinion is that they bounce back the next week, angry, and ready to kick the sh!t out of somebody. The problem is that nearly 70% of the time, that same team doesn't cover the following week. It's the "bubble burst" theory. A team realizes that they can't win the national championship, and they simply don't have the same emotion or sense of urgency. Something to keep an eye on through the rest of the season.

Keep posting.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard this when I was in vegas. Jesus it made me sick.

I made money on the LSU game too...my buddy & I bet it up 100 before the game, and then when that was a lock tossed another 200 on the 2nd half. That one paid for dinner and drinks.

I agree, but within limits. I mean a cupcake isn't going to crush a team like USC if USC loses a couple. They're still a cupcake and those guys are playing for the NFL scouts. But otherwise I agree.

Philly, any feelings on hawaii this week do you think they will come out firing after squeeking out a win last week against La Tech?

That's a game I haven't dug into yet that deeply. UNLV is 2-0 ATS, beating a scrappy Utah St on the road, in come from behind fashion, then hung in there with Wisconsin, which cashed a 2 unit ticket for me. UNLV looks improved, and playing with urgency. The X factor is Hawaii's defense. I had high hopes for them, but they really looked awful against the below average La Tech offense last week. Granted, Hawaii has now had clunkers in La Tech two visits in a row, but I was amazed that it reached double OT. You know I am a big fan of Colt Brennan and the Hawaii team. I am not sure what I think of the game yet. If anything, the UNLV Wisky close game, and Hawaii's close call, might create a bit of line value with Hawaii, but I have to crunch some numbers. I won't have a play until Friday night at earliest. Sorry for the deflection.
