Rumor: New York looking to trade up in the first round

Recommended Posts

Giants aren't trading all the way up to potentially #3 to ensure they get him. They would have to give up way too much to move from #32 all the way up into the top 5. That is not their MO

I heard the giants were going to trade for luck and then deal him to NYJ for tebow. Coughlin really likes his work ethic.

So it took the Skins 3 #1's and a #2 pick to grab the #2 pick overall. How much would it cost to grab the #3 or #4 pick overall when you are picking 32?

Eli Manning and five 1st rounders.

I say the Giants should do it.

They wouldn't trade all the way to #3.

Here's how this will work... (IF there is a bit of truth to this, rather than a GFIAFP rambling.)

They will call various teams at various spots, and figure out roughly what they would have to give to trade to that spot. If Richardson falls to a level they feel comfortable paying the price (12 ish? 15?) they may then pull the trigger.

It would go down somewhat similarly to how the saints got Ingram last year.

You guys are reading too much into this. The rumor I heard was NOT that the Giants wanted to draft Richardson, only that they were looking to move up in the first round. Now, my friend that told me this (says he heard it from his brother in law, who know's someone who's sister works at a hot dog stand at the stadium, kinda thing, why I stressed RUMOR) just said that he heard the Giants were looking to move up in the first round. Now ... I would imagine that EVERYONE (outside the first 10 picks) is looking to move up in the first round ... so it's really not much of a scoop. BUT ... I was thinking, Richardson would make sense. If the Giants were to move up, my guess is that's who they'd be trying to land.

Don't see him getting past 7 or 8 at absolute latest. And thats assuming Rams trade out.

Guaranteed who wouldn't get past 9. The Panthers can't seem to resist adding RBs, no matter how many they already have...

It's not a RUMOR if it's something you flat out made up.

Richardson won't get out of the Top 10 and there's no way the Giants deal up that far, especially not for a RB.

this is a much better thread than the 3 for forte / wallace

AGREED! we need to band together and stop responding to them (even if most are just making fun)

its gonna take like a week to bump that garbage off the front page!

The Rams are pretty high on him. I can't see him sliding past us, but why in the world would Tampa Bay risk letting him get by them? They have a fantastic line now with new offensive weapons. Adding Richardson could make them a force on offense. They are rumored to want Claiborne, but why??? He isn't going to tote the rock on offense for them and Blount isn't going to win them many games.

This for sure. No way Richardson makes it out of the top 10 and no way the Giants pony up probably this years 1st, 2nd and next years 1st to move up. Ain't happenin'...

So, basically they are looking to trade up to #31. Gotcha.

I must admit, I got a good laugh when I saw Richardson. Maybe they will trade a DE along with multiple picks.

I dunno ... who might they be looking for if they moved up to 15-20?

There's obviously a need for a blocking RB and they didn't sign Tolbert or Hillis, or re-sign Jacobs. Bradshaw will be the feature back, but he's fragile. I can see Scott having more of a role (as I have mentioned before, rookie RBs rarely get a lot of carries for the Giants) ... but IF they are after someone ... if not Richardson .... who?

Just bear with me for a second. Hypothetical situation. I mean ... L'Michael James is gonna be there at 32 ... so if you aren't moving up for Richardson .... who are you moving up for?

Mock drafts all show Giants picking at 32 .... but if they were to move up ... they'd be willing to give up X for who?

That's what it comes down to.

Maybe you just go TE at 32, and then grab a RB on the reach around.

Someone plant some weed on the dude or sumthin. The Giants without a bruising RB .... is just .... The Patriots.

The Vikings will not trade their #3 pick to the Giants. They will use the pick themselves to draft RB Trent Richardson, not OL Matt Kalil who's the consensus pick for them and a big need. While Peterson's progressing from his ACL/MCL injury he still has to prove it on the field that he's ready. Gerhart won't get the production Richardson would if AD isn't ready at the start of the season. Yes they need a LT to protect Ponder and Kalil is definitely worth the pick at 3 but I think the Vikes pull a whammy and draft Richardson thinking they'll have their RB of the future and may try to move Peterson if it's financially possible. Yeah the Giants could swing a deal with the Vikes but as was said I think they'd have to give up too much to get the pick. Just don't see it happening. They may however have their eyes on another player and may still try and move up in the 1st with someone.

There is absolutely no way Minny takes Richardson with Kalil sitting there on the board - none. Especially since they could trade down to 8 or later and still draft Richardson if that's what they wanted to do, which would be dumb.

When asked about the possibility of his team drafting Richardson, Blount told CBS NFL blogger Will Brinson on Tuesday that he was not happy about the idea.

"I would not like that pick," Blount said. "I would definitely not be happy with that pick."

Blount, who saw his production drop last season from over 1,000 yards in his rookie season to 781 yards in 2011, said he doesn't like the idea of being relegated to a back-up role or a goal line specialist and believes he should be a feature back in the Tampa Bay offense.

"I don't want that role," Blount said.

New Tampa Bay head coach Greg Schiano told Sports Illustrated last week that he has concerns about Blount's ball security after watching the former Oregon star fumble six times in his first two seasons in the NFL.

"I think LeGarrette has tons of ability,'' Schiano said. "[but] no one who touches the football will get touches if they don't protect the football. That is one of our core covenants -- the ball. It's so important they named the game after it. We make a big deal about it.''

Maybe the Giants can pick up Blount?

I am a Giants fan.. but you are on crack!

RB is a need.. but no way Reese mortgages the draft for one guy, we went 9-7 last season(due to injury) so we need depth all over the place, which means keeping our picks and using them intelligently.

Replacing Jacobs is a need.. but we have a couple of prospects on our team and can pick up a couple of guys on the cheap. Perhaps Benson on a 2 year deal once he still finds himself unemployed after the draft.

Some of you are thinking the Vikes would take Richardson? Absurd. I mean, yes, it is the Vikings so anything is possible but in this day and age, RB is like the 8th most important position behind QB, DE, LT, CB, safety, etc. Not to mention this year is a throw away season, might as well give AP the year off and roll with Toby. They either need to take Kalil or Claiborne. We've had the worst secondary for the better part of 20 years.
