titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted July 9, 2018 101.4 - Robert LaFollete - Congress Although he was a Republican, LaFollette pioneered many then-revolutionary ideas for a progressive government that served the people rather than big business. As governor of Wisconsin from 1900-1906, he introduced primary elections, got a civil service law passed to replace the patronage system, regulated the all-powerful railroads, supported a minimum wage, and taxed corporations. After his election to the Senate in Nov. 1906, he worked hard to implement many of these same ideas on a national scale, as well as fighting for women's suffrage, racial equality, child labor laws, civil liberties, and breaking up industrial monopolies. His one blind spot was foreign affairs. He strenuously opposed the U.S. entering WWI and voted against the declaration of war, which got him labeled as a tool of the enemy. Theodore Roosevelt said he was "a skunk who should be hanged." When the war was over, he opposed the Treaty of Versailles. In 1924, he ran for President on the Progressive ticket and got 17% of the popular vote. 102.4 - Robert Wagner - Congress His most important legislative achievement was the 1935 Wagner Act, which prohibited many common, but unfair labor practices, protected the rights of workers to join labor unions and to strike. Employers were enraged and ignored the law. In a celebrated case, Jones & Laughlin, then the nation's largest steelmaker, fired workers who joined a union. The fired workers sued the company, and the case made it to the Supreme Court, which ruled that the Wagner Act was constitutional and that such firings violated it. When the Republicans gained control of the Senate in 1946, one of the first things they did was pass the Taft-Hartley Act, which weakened many of the provisions of the Wagner Act. Wagner's other claim to fame was, together with Sen. Edward Costigan (D-CO), drafting the Costigan-Wagner bill. Had this bill been enacted, it would have made the lynching of southern blacks by mobs a crime and would also have penalized sheriffs who failed to pursue the perpetrators. The bill was violently opposed by southern senators such as Ellison D. Smith (D-SC) who said that lynching was necessary "to protect the sanctity of our womanhood" and never passed the Senate. vuduchile 1,941 Posted July 10, 2018 101.7 Grace Hopper - Other scientist Grace Brewster Murray Hopper (née Murray; December 9, 1906 January 1, 1992) was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral.[1] One of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer, she was a pioneer of computer programming who invented one of the first compiler related tools. She popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages, which led to the development of COBOL, an early high-level programming language still in use today. 102.7 Edward Cope - Other scientist Edward Drinker Cope (July 28, 1840 April 12, 1897) was an American paleontologist and comparative anatomist, as well as a noted herpetologist and ichthyologist. He was a founder of the Neo-Lamarckism school of thought. Born to a wealthy Quaker family, Cope distinguished himself as a child prodigy interested in science; he published his first scientific paper at the age of 19. Though his father tried to raise Cope as a gentleman farmer, he eventually acquiesced to his son's scientific aspirations. Cope married his cousin and had one child; the family moved from Philadelphia to Haddonfield, New Jersey, although Cope would maintain a residence and museum in Philadelphia in his later years. 5-Points 2,725 Posted July 10, 2018 101.8 William Rehnquist - SCOTUS William Hubbs Rehnquist (/ˈrɛnkwɪst/; October 1, 1924 – September 3, 2005) was an American lawyer and jurist who served on the Supreme Court of the United States for 33 years, first as an Associate Justice from 1972 to 1986, and then as the 16th Chief Justice of the United States from 1986 until his death in 2005. Considered a conservative, Rehnquist favored a conception of federalism that emphasized the Tenth Amendment's reservation of powers to the states. Under this view of federalism, the court, for the first time since the 1930s, struck down an act of Congress as exceeding its power under the Commerce Clause. 102.8 George Fitzhugh - Social Scientist This guy was a real piece of work. George Fitzhugh (November 4, 1806 – July 30, 1881) was an American social theorist who published racial and slavery-based sociological theories in the antebellum era. He argued that the negro "is but a grown up child"[1][2] who needs the economic and social protections of slavery. Fitzhugh decried capitalism as spawning "a war of the rich with the poor, and the poor with one another"[3] – rendering free blacks "far outstripped or outwitted in the chase of free competition."[4] Slavery, he contended, ensured that blacks would be economically secure and morally civilized. Fitzhugh practiced law and was a painter for years, but attracted both fame and infamy when he published two sociological tracts for the South. He was a leading pro-slaveryintellectual[5] and spoke for many of the Southern plantation owners. Before printing books, Fitzhugh tried his hand at a pamphlet titled "Slavery Justified" (1849). His first book, Sociology for the South (1854) was not as widely known as his second book, Cannibals All!(1857). Sociology for the South is the first known English-language book to include the term "sociology" in its title.[6] Fitzhugh differed from nearly all of his southern contemporaries by advocating a slavery that crossed racial boundaries. In 1860 Fitzhugh stated that "It is a libel on white men to say they are unfit for slavery" and suggested that if Yankees were caught young they could be trained, domesticated and civilized to make "faithful and valuable servants".[7] Writing in the Richmond Inquirer on 15 December 1855, Fitzhugh proclaimed: "The principle of slavery is in itself right, and does not depend on difference of complexion", "Nature has made the weak in mind or body slaves ... The wise and virtuous, the strong in body and mind, are born to command", and "The Declaration of Independence is exuberantly false, and aborescently fallacious." 5-Points 2,725 Posted July 10, 2018 103.1 Lewis H. Morgan Philosopher/Thinker Lewis Henry Morgan (November 21, 1818 – December 17, 1881) was a pioneering American anthropologist and social theorist who worked as a railroad lawyer. He is best known for his work on kinship and social structure, his theories of social evolution, and his ethnography of the Iroquois. Interested in what holds societies together, he proposed the concept that the earliest human domestic institution was the matrilineal clan, not the patriarchal family. Also interested in what leads to social change, he was a contemporary of the European social theorists Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, who were influenced by reading his work on social structure and material culture, the influence of technology on progress. Morgan is the only American social theorist to be cited by such diverse scholars as Marx, Charles Darwin, and Sigmund Freud. Elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences, Morgan served as president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1880 104.1 Bruce Jenner - Athlete/Other

vuduchile 1,941 Posted July 10, 2018 103.2 Caesar Rodney - Congressman Caesar Rodney. (Credit: The Library of Congress) He was a founding father, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and an American herobut most have probably not heard of Caesar Rodney or his dramatic 18-hour midnight horseback ride to Philadelphia to cast a critical, deciding vote in favor of separating from Great Britain. One reason most may not know the Delaware delegates name could have to do with his face. Rodney suffered from a facial deformity, likely caused by a cancer, that he obscured with a green scarf or handkerchief. This could explain why there are very few portraits of Rodneycontributing to his lack of notoriety. Despite his obscurity, Rodney played a critical role during the second Continental Congress meeting in 1776 at what is now Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Initially, Delawares two attending delegates were split in their votes of whether to declare independence from Great Britain, with George Read against separating, and Thomas McKean in favor. According to Jonathan S. Russ, a historian at the University of Delaware, Rodney was home tending to his own business affairs and the state militia when he received word of the tie vote. He then famously rode 80 miles toward Philadelphia, through a thunderstorm, entered into the convention and broke that deadlock, casting his vote in favor of Delaware declaring its independence from Great Britain with the other colonies, Russ says. vuduchile 1,941 Posted July 10, 2018 104.2 Henry Fonda - Actor Fonda made his mark early as a Broadway actor. He also appeared in 1938 in plays performed in White Plains, New York, with Joan Tompkins. He made his Hollywood debut in 1935, and his career gained momentum after his Academy Award-nominated performance as Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath, a 1940 adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel about an Oklahoma family who moved west during the Dust Bowl. Throughout five decades in Hollywood, Fonda cultivated a strong, appealing screen image in such classics as The Ox-Bow Incident, Mister Roberts, and 12 Angry Men. Later, Fonda moved toward darker epics such as Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West and lighter roles in family comedies such as Yours, Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball, winning the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 54th Academy Awards for the movie On Golden Pond, his final film role. ZeroTolerance 582 Posted July 10, 2018 I still have a spot open in Business, but this guy was a total wild card (and I'm surprised he is still available). 103.3 - Howard Hughes - Wildcard Howard Robard Hughes Jr. (December 24, 1905 April 5, 1976) was an American business magnate, investor, record-setting pilot, film director, and philanthropist, known during his lifetime as one of the most financially successful individuals in the world. He first made a name for himself as a film producer, and then became an influential figure in the aviation industry. Later in life, he became known for his eccentric behavior and reclusive lifestyleoddities that were caused in part by a worsening obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD), chronic pain from several plane crashes, and increasing deafness. As a maverick film tycoon, Hughes gained prominence in Hollywood beginning in the late 1920s, when he produced big-budget and often controversial films such as The Racket (1928), Hell's Angels (1930), and Scarface (1932). Later he controlled the RKO film studio. Hughes formed the Hughes Aircraft Company in 1932, hiring numerous engineers and designers. He spent the rest of the 1930s and much of the 1940s setting multiple world air speed records and building the Hughes H-1 Racer and H-4 Hercules (the Spruce Goose). He acquired and expanded Trans World Airlines and later acquired Air West, renaming it Hughes Airwest. Hughes was included in Flying Magazine's list of the 51 Heroes of Aviation, ranked at No. 25. Today, his legacy is maintained through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Howard Hughes Corporation. 104.3 - Bette Davis - Woman Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (/ˈbɛti/; April 5, 1908 October 6, 1989) was an American actress of film, television, and theater. Regarded as one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history, she was noted for her willingness to play unsympathetic, sardonic characters, and was famous for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films, suspense horror, and occasional comedies, although her greatest successes were her roles in romantic dramas. Davis was the co-founder of the Hollywood Canteen, and was the first female president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress twice, was the first person to accrue 10 Academy Award nominations for acting, and was the first woman to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. RaiderHaters Revenge 3,569 Posted July 11, 2018 103 Lionsgate - Media Company 104 Sonny Sixkiller - Indian Born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and a member of the Cherokee Nation, Sixkiller's family moved to Ashland in southern Oregon when he was a year old, where his father worked in a lumber mill.[2][3] He attended Ashland High School and was a good student and a letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. In football, Sixkiller was an All-Southern Oregon Conference selection and a second team All-State selection. He was a back-up at quarterback as a sophomore to senior Gene Willis, who later played at Washington. In basketball, he was an all-conference selection. In baseball, he was a pitcher and an all-conference selection. Sixkiller graduated in 1969 and had hoped to stay in-state and play for Oregon State in Corvallis, but head coach Dee Andros declined to offer him a scholarship, wary of his lack of size (5 ft 11 in (1.80 m), 171 lb (78 kg)).[2] University of Washington[edit]On the advice of Willis, head coach Jim Owens recruited Sixkiller and offered him a scholarship to the University of Washington in Seattle. Due to his name, he was given uniform number 6. He became the starting quarterback for the Huskies as a sophomore in 1970 and led the Huskies to a 6-4 record, a vast improvement over the 1–9 record in 1969. He completed 186 passes for 2,303 yards and 15 touchdowns in what many called the Year of The Quarterback, in which Jim Plunkett of Stanford passed for 2,715 yards on the year and broke his own conference record. Plunkett won the Heisman Trophy in 1970, beating out Notre Dame's Joe Theismann and Archie Manning of Ole Miss. Sixkiller missed four games as a senior in 1972 finished his college career with 385 completions for 5,496 yards and 35 touchdowns, and held fifteen school records.[4] The Huskies posted consecutive 8–3 records in 1971 and 1972.[5] The Pac-8 Conference allowed only one team to play in the postseason, the Rose Bowl, until the 1975 season. Professional football[edit]Unselected in the 1973 NFL Draft, Sixkiller had tryouts with the Los Angeles Rams in 1973,[4] and with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 1974. He signed with the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League in September 1974,[6] and played with The Hawaiians in 1975, until the league folded in October. He tried out with the San Diego Chargers in 1976. Sixkiller was also a cast member in the 1974 film The Longest Yard. He is currently an executive for sports marketing firm IMG College, serving his alma mater, the University of Washington.
Voltaire 4,556 Posted July 11, 2018 103.8 - Charles Evans Hughes - SCOTUS By 1937, FDR was so infuriated with the Supreme Court so frequently striking down his New Deal programs that after the Dems won sweeping majorities in both houses of Congress in the 1936 elections he attempted/threatened to pack the court by placing six new justices on it. The plan never came to pass but Hughes was the Chief Justice who sent him into such a rage. The issues usually revolved around the massive expansion of federal power that FDR wanted to implement vs Hughes' interpretation of the Constitution that powers not granted to the Federal Government were reserved to the states. Voltaire 4,556 Posted July 11, 2018 104.8 - McCulloch v Maryland (1819) - Court Case Established the federal government's implied powers over the states. Maryland imposed a tax on the Bank of the United States and questioned the federal government's ability to grant charters without explicit constitutional sanction. The Supreme Court held that the tax unconstitutionally interfered with federal supremacy and ruled that the Constitution gives the federal government certain implied powers. 105.1 Obergefell vs Hodges (2015) - Court Case Allows same sex couples such as drobeski and Recliner Pilot to get married across all 50 states 106.1 Gideon v Wainwright (1963) - Court Case Criminal defendants have a right to an attorney even if they cannot afford one. Gideon was accused of committing a felony. Since he was broke, he petitioned the judge to provide him with an attorney free of charge. The judge denied his request. The Supreme Court ruled for Gideon, saying that the Sixth Amendment requires indigent criminal defendants to be provided an attorney free of charge.
RaiderHaters Revenge 3,569 Posted July 11, 2018 105 Nathaniel Bacon - Colonial Era Nathaniel Bacon, (born January 2, 1647, Suffolk, England—died October 1676, Virginia [u.S.]), Virginia planter and leader of Bacon’s Rebellion (1676), the first popular revolt in England’s North American colonies. A kinsman of the famous Sir Francis Bacon, Nathaniel Bacon graduated from the University of Cambridge, toured the continent, and studied law at Gray’s Inn. Until shortly before his arrival in Virginia in 1674, Bacon was destined to the life of a country squire. His marriage to Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Edward Duke of Suffolk, was violently opposed by her father. Her disinheritance and the involvement of Bacon in a rather unsavory deal to defraud a neighbour of his inheritance contributed to Bacon’s decision to migrate to North America. Financed by his father, Bacon acquired two estates along the James River in Virginia—a main plantation 40 miles (65 km) above Jamestown and an outer plantation at the present site of Richmond. By virtue of his social position and financial means, his kinship by marriage to Gov. William Berkeley, and the wealth and influence of his cousin Nathaniel Bacon, Sr., he was appointed to the governor’s council in less than one year after his arrival in the colony. RaiderHaters Revenge 3,569 Posted July 11, 2018 106 James Oglethorpe - Colonial Era Founding of GeorgiaIn 1728, three years before conceiving the Georgia colony, Oglethorpe chaired a Parliamentary committee on prison reform. The committee documented horrendous abuses in three debtors' prisons. As a result of the committee's actions, many debtors were released from prison with no means of support. Oglethorpe viewed this as part of the larger problem of urbanisation, which was depleting the countryside of productive people and depositing them in cities, particularly London, where they often became impoverished or resorted to criminal activity. To address this problem, Oglethorpe and a group of associates, many of whom served on the prison committee, petitioned in 1730 to form the Trustees for the Establishment of the Colony of Georgia in America. The petition was finally approved in 1732, and the first ship, led by Oglethorpe, departed for the New World in November.[5]

Voltaire 4,556 Posted July 11, 2018 104.2 Henry Fonda - Actor Fonda made his mark early as a Broadway actor. I still have her entered as your 88.2 round pick and Carol Burnett as your 89.7. So maybe you got skipped in the 88/89 area LB/CB confusion or am I missing something else too? shotsup 832 Posted July 12, 2018 105 Thomas Hutchinson - Colonial Era Thomas Hutchinson (9 September 1711 3 June 1780) was a businessman, historian, and a prominent Loyalist politician of the Province of Massachusetts Bay in the years before the American Revolution. He has been referred to as "the most important figure on the loyalist side in pre-Revolutionary Massachusetts."[1] He was a successful merchant and politician, and was active at high levels of the Massachusetts government for many years, serving as lieutenant governor and then governor from 1758 to 1774. He was a politically polarizing figure who came to be identified by John Adams and Samuel Adams as a proponent of hated British taxes,
ZeroTolerance 582 Posted July 12, 2018 105.6 - Joseph Henry - Physics Joseph Henry (December 17, 1797 – May 13, 1878) was an American scientist who served as the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. He was the secretary for the National Institute for the Promotion of Science, a precursor of the Smithsonian Institution. He was highly regarded during his lifetime. While building electromagnets, Henry discovered the electromagnetic phenomenon of self-inductance. He also discovered mutual inductance independently of Michael Faraday, though Faraday was the first to make the discovery and publish his results. Henry developed the electromagnet into a practical device. He invented a precursor to the electric doorbell (specifically a bell that could be rung at a distance via an electric wire, 1831) and electric relay (1835). The SI unit of inductance, the henry, is named in his honor. Henry's work on the electromagnetic relay was the basis of the practical electrical telegraph, invented by Samuel F. B. Morse and Sir Charles Wheatstone, separately. 106.6 - Rachel Carson - Nonfiction Writer Rachel Louise Carson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964) was an American marine biologist, author, and conservationist whose book Silent Spring and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement. Carson began her career as an aquatic biologist in the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries, and became a full-time nature writer in the 1950s. Her widely praised 1951 bestseller The Sea Around Us won her a U.S. National Book Award, recognition as a gifted writer, and financial security. Her next book, The Edge of the Sea, and the reissued version of her first book, Under the Sea Wind, were also bestsellers. This sea trilogy explores the whole of ocean life from the shores to the depths. Late in the 1950s, Carson turned her attention to conservation, especially some problems that she believed were caused by synthetic pesticides. The result was the book Silent Spring (1962), which brought environmental concerns to an unprecedented share of the American people. Although Silent Spring was met with fierce opposition by chemical companies, it spurred a reversal in national pesticide policy, which led to a nationwide ban on DDT and other pesticides. It also inspired a grassroots environmental movement that led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Carson was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Jimmy Carter.

A Founding Father, he served as the first and sixth post-colonial Governor of Virginia, from 1776 to 1779 and from 1784 to 1786. Henry led the opposition to the Stamp Act 1765 and is remembered for his "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech. Along with Samuel Adams and Thomas Paine, he is regarded as one of the most influential champions of Republicanism and an invested promoter of the American Revolution and its fight for independence. 108.1 Hatfields & McCoys - Wildcard The Hatfield–McCoy feud or the Hatfield–McCoy war as some papers at the time called it, involved two rural families of the West Virginia–Kentucky area along the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River in the years 1863–1891. The Hatfields of West Virginia were led by William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield while the McCoys of Kentucky were under the leadership of Randolph "Ole Ran'l" McCoy. Those involved in the feud were descended from Ephraim Hatfield (born c. 1765) and William McCoy (born c. 1750). The feud has entered the American folklore lexicon as a metonym for any bitterly feuding rival parties. More than a century later, the feud has become synonymous with the perils of family honor, justice, and revenge. William McCoy, the patriarch of the McCoys, was born in Ireland around 1750 and many of his ancestors hailed from Scotland.[1] The family, led by grandson Randolph McCoy, lived mostly on the Kentucky side of Tug Fork (a tributary of the Big Sandy River).[2] The Hatfields, led by William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield, son of Ephraim and Nancy (Vance) Hatfield, lived mostly on the West Virginia side. The majority of the Hatfields, although living in Mingo County (then part of Logan County), West Virginia, fought on the Confederate side in the American Civil War; most McCoys, living in Pike County, Kentucky, also fought for the Confederates;[3] with the exception of Asa Harmon McCoy, who fought for the Union. The first real violence in the feud was the death of Asa Harmon McCoy as he returned from the war, murdered by a group of Confederate Home Guards called the Logan Wildcats. Devil Anse Hatfield was a suspect at first, but was later confirmed to have been sick at home at the time of the murder. It was widely believed that his uncle, Jim Vance, a member of the Wildcats, committed the murder.[4] The Hatfields were more affluent than the McCoys and were well-connected politically. Devil Anse Hatfield's timbering operation was a source of wealth for his family, while the McCoys were more of a lower-middle-class family. Ole Ran'l owned a 300-acre (120 ha) farm. Both families had also been involved in the manufacturing and selling of illegal moonshine.
