Dez Bryant - Signs with New Orleans

Recommended Posts

I know he was due to work out for the saints yesterday...what are the possibilities he actually signs with them? Any saints homers have any insights on whats going on there?

Lets say he does....does he have value there? I dont think it will hurt Thomas much but smith on the other hand may be affected.

Reports Ive seen say he has kept himself in shape and ready but not playing at all this yr,how is he in football game shape?

Worth a flier,just in case?

It's an interesting move by the Saints, for sure. But how much impact is a guy going to have coming in off the street in week 10 having to learn an entirely new offense?

It smells a little bit like a desperation move since the Saints have not been able to establish a secondary receiver since Ginn went down.

I have to think he'd have some value if only in the redzone. Dez didn't seem to get separation but he's still a big body and the Saints aren't brimming with talent at the TE spot. He could almost play that role for them. Plus, can't Brees turn just about anybody into a star?

If so, why not Tre Smith?

I don't think this is a knock on Tre'Quan and more so an indictment on Cam Meredith. If they sign Dez it more clarifies Tre'Quans role.

Look at it as Dez = Colston....Tre'Quan = Stills.

It does from a fantasy perspective damper me on Tre'Quan. I have a bid in to grab Ito to drop Trequan. Assuming Dez actually signs. But I think either way I want Ito as my RB5 down the stretch, since ANYTHING can happen in any given week and WR's are much easier to farm weekly. Plus Tre'Quan is my last stash WR behind Adams, Gordon, Fitz and MVS.

Well...just pulled the trigger and picked up Dez. Was carrying two TEs so I got rid of one to grab him and stash..hopefully in a few weeks when he gets comfortable with Brees and their system he will be solid for the playoff push

Interesting pick since the Saints already have the great T Smith.

Dez is diffently worth a pick up.

Hes going to be a good redzone target with more upside then the other wr the saints have not named Thomas.

Not surprised at all tha tthe Saints picked up some wr help, very limited at that position after Thomas.

I don't think it's a knock on smith at all....they run 3-4 wrs sets quite frequently...and Carr and Meredith arent cutting it

i just adopted the saints as my team for the postseason (since the cowboys will obviously be sitting on their couches).

Agreed. Think this actually helps Smith's value, as Dez for underneath, Thomas anywhere, Smith deep and get more opportunities for big plays.

WTS, I don't think Dez has a lot to offer at this point. He'll get like 5-6 targets first half of first game he plays (ala Demarius and Cooper with their new teams), and then they'll go away from him.

Just think Saints really feel they can make a run at going deep into playoffs and this is more shoring up WR corp for that run. He'll get some run, but don't think could become a consistent FF starter at any point.

Now if he is on your WW, def worth a pick up though, as you never know, but JMHO

Had a chance to pick him up and decided not to. I could see why you would want to take a chance on him tho. It's the Saints offense and it's Drew Brees.

I couldn't justify dropping Scantling, Jeffery, Marvin Jones, Evans, or AJ Green for him.

I'm in the same boat. Two leagues with very thin bench spots and another with limited moves per week. I really don't have any room for him. But i'm not sure that I feel like I missed out anyway. Got Valdes-Scantling in the two tighter bench leagues. Feel like him at #2 in the GB offense is better than a cold, out of shape, doesn't know the plays WR in Dez who looked washed up in his last season anyway. JMO though.

He would be a wr 3/4.......

I dont have the need for it. Really low fantasy value.

This will be interesting.

The Dez of 2014 isn't coming back but he's still got something to offer if he's healthy. Especially with the Saints and Brees.

He'll have his moments. He'll be a decent intermediate and short range target. He's always been good in the red zone and should get some scores.

I doubt he'll be anywhere near the deep threat he once was but he's still a big target that can win some jump balls. He'll make a play down the field here and there.

If you need some help at WR, be it bye week fill ins or just someone to stash on the bench, he's worth a look.

I agree he is not/will not be the player he once was but I grabbed him anyway to stash..I think hes at least worth the chance. I have to believe the saints did there due diligence and saw some value there. I dont think they would bring him in, try him out and if didnt see anything there, sign him anyway....do you?

Dont t know the ins and outs of the try out/meetings but, was Brees involved? If he put in his .02 you would think he liked what he saw.

Hopefull anyway...Im in need of WR help and need something for the stretch run

Gotta believe this helps Tre 'Quan. Defenses have to somehow try and account for Thomas, Dez, and Kamara underneath and intermediate....leaving improved opportunity for the long game, which Brees can deliver.

It's possible. My initial reaction was going to be to cut TreQuan but I think I'm going to hold and see how it shakes out for this exact reason. My only concern with a guy with Tre'Quan is the Saints will go pass happy one week then revert into a shell and run hard the next week. In those run weeks, TreQuan might suffer a decent bit. But I guess he was to begin with in those games.

would you drop John Brown for Tre'Quan.....my other receivers are Tyreek, Hopkins, and Fitz.....could also drop Elijah McGuire, or Wilson as my second QB(Big Ben is my starter)

Not sure he has the mental capacity to learn that offense especially in the 1st month. Might come in handy during the playoffs as a jump ball specialist. However, His route running, speed and separation off the line is not what it once was

I don’t think Dez has to be what he once was.

I’m sure the Saints so this also.

But Bress and the staff knew they needed wr help after Thomas.

He won’t be great but he’s worthy of a roster spot and will hurt any saint wr not named Thomas.

Plus Ingram I think will start to become more incorporated into the system has this season goes forward.

Any thanks.
