Why "experts" do this?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have Rivers and Fitzpatrick for QBs, start 1. A lot of the "experts" have Rivers rated higher than Fitz this week (Rivers does have an easy matchup) even though (a)Rivers hasn't thrown 30 passes in a game since week 3, and (B) his RB Gordon also has an excellent matchup. Fitzpatrick? He has a decent matchup, TB can't run the ball, and he throws ALL game long-so why would Rivers be rated higher-Chargers should have the game locked up early and be running it a lot. Any feedback?

This site has Fitzpatrick 10 slots higher than Rivers. Rotoworld has them both next to each other. FantasyPros has Rivers 2 spots higher than Fitz.

I think these are fair rankings.

Go with the guy you like.

Because the Chargers would love to put a wooden shampoo to Chucky and the Raiders in a divisional game.

wtf is a wooden shampoo?

Thanks for the input, I think Fitz is the play, LAC will most likely get a big lead and run Gordon alot. I just can't figure out why Rivers is ranked higher (4for4, FantasyPros) than Fitz, doesn't make sense. Go with my gut!

I agree with all of this and was thinking the rankings make no sense. Logically it seems like Rivers needs to put up points early as they wont need to push it down the field in the second half. However, maybe they think the Raiders are so bad that Rivers cant help but put up 3 TDs?

Fitz has a high ceiling but some people must be pricing in the possibility that he/the team implodes in that game. That risk seems minimal with a decent but not great opponent in Washington who just got run ragged by Atlanta.

For me, I just traded Fitz and Ebron for an upgrade in TE (Howard). So I wont have to make this decision anymore.

At what point are we all experts? No offense to anyone, but after doing this for 20 years I probably know more about rankings etc than most experts online. Most of us do, not just me! Yet we all look at expert rankings mainly bc we like to reassure ourselves. If youve been doing this for over a decade then in the end just trust your gut. Thats what I say dang it! 🙂

HAHA great trade, takes a load off your mind, Howard's a great pickup to get! And yes, we've had our league for 25 years now and I think we (I do anyway) look at ratings and then ultimately make our own decisions, but in our league if you make your lineup against what CBS experts say and you lose, HAHAHA, you are going to get it from the other guys-all in fun though. Hey guys good luck this week, kick some butt!

Rivers did score 25 ff points vs the Raiders the first time they played them this season in what was a 26-10 walk away win.

This time Chargers are on the road and maybe they think that the Raiders might score more then 10 points.

If interceptions are not penalized or just negative one . Fitz is prob the answer. One new league i am in has negative 3 for int. Commish made it sound logical too. About interceptions are game changers too.

I have no desire to play Rivers or even Wilson over FitzMagic....I don’t care what some website projects them. I can see very well with my eyes.

sometimes a ranking is based on what the expected game script will be. The chargers against Oakland will have a run game script for offense.

Rivers will score good first half points, but I also expect the Defense might get a score and will get a couple turnovers for sure, so I think the chargers will be running the ball most of the second half.

Tampa, on the other hand, plays a washington team with a solid offense and will be playing from behind most of the game (or so I suspect) so the game script likely means Fitzy will get lots of throws. especially in the second half of the game.

While Rivers is 10x the QB Fitzy is, I suspect Fitzy will put up more points this week. Just a gut feeling.

if you feel the Oakland game is gonna be close, then you pick Rivers to play. at that point the Game script will even the playing field.

That's my take on it.

Looks like Rivers 17 and Fitz 10.

Depends on scoring system of course.

Probability is what a lot of ranks/projections go on. Rivers had a higher floor. Fitz had a higher ceiling even if it is a fluky one.

If you watch football and want to put your team in the hands of Fitz and Tampa Bay, go ahead. Some weeks it will work out. But the 10 points and less games are lurking unpredictably. The organization is in shambles. They are about to have a new qb room and coaches. And they all know it.

If I had to provide rankings to folks who cannot wait to write mean stuff to me about my rankings when they are off vs what happens on a Sunday, I would rank Rivers higher than Fitz pretty much every week in this season. He is a better player on a better team in a better situation.

And folks, we have to stop thinking we are mind-readers who can figure out before a game how the game flow will be. There are only a few certainties this year and even those are not guarantees. The Saint and Rams will score. The Raiders? Not really. What else? We just saw the Bills throw a party on the Jets! With Matt Barkley!

Take "experts" with a true grain of Grade-A BS. Years back, I thought these guys were just that, "experts". Until I started writing for sites and quickly realized that at the end of the day, we were all folks with opinions, with a forum to spout them. Did I feel like I knew my stuff? Sure. Many of these decisions are pure common sense. Don't over-think. You drafted guy relatively high, START HIM. Of course, there are always exceptions - hell, last season I grabbed Kamara off the waiver wire and he helped carry me to a championship with both him and Ingram... most weeks playing them both... This season the guy was a top 4-5 overall pick. But last year, who knew? But so much of this is opinion, subjective, and at the end of the day, not worth a whole lot. You know what Dirty Harry said about opinions..

You post "Start 'Em's" and Oddly enough, come Sunday night, many of them should have been "Sit Em's". The guy you exclaimed should be left on the bench? Blew up on your bench no doubt. Ah the fantasy pundits.

I was always of the school of thought, and I know it is Old School, but you "start your studs".. Players are viewed as such not because they play well against sub-par opponents, but because they do so against most if not all opponents. Now with the influx of flex positions, decisions are widened. Choices are plentiful, but that is maddening in itself. 8 spots - 8 quality performers - call it a day. But now it is a chess match and the chess pieces are akin to mental manhole covers. Rosters are huge, talent pools are thin, and the decision making all the more ridiculous, because you are weighing one marginal talent against another marginal talent.

I keep up on news regarding injuries, dabble in some common sense and make up my own mind... but reading multiple articles, getting burdened with opinions... ugh who needs it?

I'd rather kibitz with you fine folks!!
