Fock em anyway.

:dunno:Okay...

I like them because it allowed me to sell my product nationally with very little effort (comparably) on my part.

His Mom's used panties. Nice and pungent. Arrived in very nice packaging. Highly recommend.  4 stars.

My father had me selling computers out of the garage with my childhood nemesis Lloyd.  Maybe if Amazon had been around back then it may have worked.

Duh. You were cutting into the bottom line by taking all the product for yourself.  Need to be like good drug dealers that don't use their own wares. Econ 101.

Sounds cool.  Why’d you stop selling the briefcases?

They are no longer fashionable.  Most people including my target audience use back packs or have the money to buy expensive leather goods.

Gotcha.  We’re you making them or buying them wholesale and selling retail?

Niche market idea: briefcases made of human skin!

Sorry, still thinking about the Silence of the Lambs valentine I shared.

While I think this sucks for NY, I'm happy that AOC, Warren and all the other screeching Socialists/Marxists kai-boshed this.  Why?  Because it shows exactly how far left - and incredibly stupid - these Democrats have become.

I say the more these idiots open their mouth, the more eye-openings we'll get and the more people will flock to the GOP.  I'm hoping those who vote left will realize that the Democrats don't represent them at all.  It's all about gaining power with them.  Hopefully they've lost a bunch of it today.

Also, these people couldn't even roll out the Green New Deal professional and properly, but we're supposed to give them control of the US Government and put them in charge?  No fkn way.

Is it that crazy, though? I remember seeing quite a few headlines right after it was announced that NYC won saying it's not a good deal for the city and they gave up too much.

I 'm not sure I believe that.  These are the same type of people that said - and continue to say - the same things about the FoxConn deal here in WI.  And that's proven to be quite false.

Also keep in mind that these same people will drop $125 million for a 1 mile trolly car (see City of Milwaukee) and 140 billion on high speed rail projects (see California).  Are some tax breaks and $25K jobs @ 150K average plus tax revenue really not worth it?  It's fkn mind-boggling.

Are most people in NY really happy that the jobs went somewhere else?  I find that hard to believe.

Not in general but putting that thing in Long island City was going to be very hard that live in that general area.

As someone nowhere near it... It sucks it is not coming

Foxconn was one of the examples I have heard was a bad deal, actually. This politico article kind of details some of the anger over giving these deals to big corporations.

If you can't see the obvious major flaws in the Amazon deal, I really don't know what to tell you.

Agreed. Focking suckers that actually want to work. I can't wait to sit back and collect some of that "unwilling to work" cash money, homie!

The company said that within 15 years it could have employed as many as 40,000 workers in the city in 8 million square feet of office space. It would have invested over $2.5 billion in the Long Island City neighborhood in the borough of Queens.

Yeah, that thing is just a hit piece.  The fact of the matter is that FoxCon NEEDS to meet certain goals in order to get the credits.  No goals = no credits.  WI isn't just handing them over willy nilly.   And the credits are in stages, and each stage has goals to meet.

Had FoxCon approached a Democrat governor, you better believe the Democrats would have jumped on it.  The only reason the Democrats didn't support it was because of Walker.  Kind of like on the national level on how they oppose everything Trump.  It's a form of derangement and hysteria.  In Walker's case, it started with ACT 10 in 2010 and only let up when he lost last November.

Also, on a side note, Walker not being re-elected for a 3rd term has nothing to do with FoxConn.  In it's 171 year history, WI has only elected ONE Governor to a 3rd term - Tommy Thompson back in the 90's.  EVERY governor before and after has only served, at most, TWO terms before either quitting or being voted out.  And Tony Evers BARELY won with less than a 1% margin.

I understand the need for tax incentives to attract and keep businesses in a particular community.

But the pendulum has swung too far in the favor of the behemoths.  While not exactly a monopoly, Amazon is very close to the line

AOC is a moron to the nth degree, and her reasoning was likely flawed. But somehow she ended up on the right side of this one.

Neither will ever admit it, but she and Trunp are pretty much in lockstep when it comes to Amazon.

Bullsh*t.  That's easy to say when you're not one of the 25,000 people who lost out on the opportunity for a 150k/year job.  I ask again.  How much in taxes does NY get without this Amazon deal?

So every state should just engage in a contest of who can wh0re themselves out the most?

There has to be a limit. Companies should be citizens and pay their focking taxes. Employing people isn't some favor that we should bend over for.

they were going to get 3 billion in tax credit, while that sounds like a lot

NY State Income tax ranges from 4.48-8% in tiers, while the average salary would likely be 100k  falling in the 6% range, would created tax revenue of 150 million a year, not to mention property and sales tax, as well as the benefits for city development (see silicon valley) tons of up and coming restaurants, sky rocketing property values.

The Net would easily be pushed over 1 billion annually, not to mention the 25k jobs created, + the money that Amazon spends on infrastructure, construction, and revitilization in the area

I agree with this In principal. But in this specific case, considering the types of workers that were coming in, and their expected wages, NY lost out. This wasn't a distribution center. These people were going to live in the area, buy and rent homes. They were to be an infusion, not a reallocation of an existing workforce.

Dress it up however you want. Amazon was trying to extract public funds for their own enrichment.

Of course they’re not the only company to do so. But why should these big companies get all these favors that  give them even more competitive advantage?  They create jobs and the net profit to the state might look positive on the surface, but these incentives are really just corporate welfare

These state vs state bidding wars are a zero sum game for the nation as a whole.  If a corporation needs to will build facilities and create jobs to grow their business, by all means, they should do so.

On their own dime

Enough is enough already.

Yep.

Everything going to big companies has really hurt America. Small business pays tax. Big business avoids it. When economy was more based on small local companies, profits were reinvested in the community. Now they go get parked offshore. Small business provided employment. Big business provides wage slavery.

Sucks. But we're too far gone to change now sadly.

I see this from a certain point of view, so my opinions should be consisdered with that in mind.

Amazon’s  biz model is an obvious success.  Great. Good for them. They’ve wiped out some little guys along the way and that’s alright.  It’s capitalism.

But there’s absolutely no need to fund their further expansion with taxpayer money.  As I’ve said, they’re near the monopoly line already.

They’ll create most of those lost NY jobs in VA , TN  and other tech hubs anyway

Tough luck for LIC, but good for the USA

The winners and losers in this will be sorted eventually.

Do I think corporations who bring jobs and industry to a region are entitled to negotiate deals. Why not?

Why not? How bout for one, it skews things in favor of the big guy.

Little guy with one factory or one warehouse doesn't get deals like that. Only the huge guys do.

Bottom line, I'm not for government subsidizing private enterprise.
