How much would you pay for a ratless version of The Departed

Recommended Posts

Full Story

Martin Scorsese’s The Departed may have won four Oscars and grossed more than $290 million at the box office, but, alas, it contains a fatal flaw. After an entire movie about mobsters trying to uncover a “rat” in their midst, a literal rat scampers across the frame, its lack of subtlety ruining the last scene and, arguably, the rest of the movie and the practice of filmmaking as a whole. Before we shut the entire industry down for good, however, a new Kickstarter campaign has an elegant solution: Just get rid of it.

“In the tradition of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas digitally altering their movies after the fact, I want to digitally erase the rat from the end of The Departed,” mastermind Adam Sacks explains. “But unlike Lucas and Spielberg’s changes, this will make The Departed a much better movie.” That’s where Sacks’ campaign backers will come in, because he says he needs $4,000 to get the job done.

 phuck the rat.

You want to make that movie a billion times better? Just remove every scene involving Martin Sheen. I remember when they're filming Patriots Day the director told everybody look if you can't do a perfect Boston accent, then don't do one at all. Next time you watch it, noticed that the only two people attempting a Boston accent are Mark Wahlberg who's from there and John Goodman. Nobody else could make it work.

Well, except for the fat lady cop on the roof who refused to give up territory to the FBI. Pretty sure she was from Boston as well.

Sheens abortion of a Boston accent was an affront not only to Boston, not only to the audience, but to Cinema as a whole.

And speaking of Lucas and Spielberg? The falling off the roof scene from The Departed had all the technical Merit of a Three Stooges movie from the 30s.

That is one of the most overrated movies I have ever seen falling just under Gone with the Wind.

Next time you feel like watching The Departed? Stab yourself in the diick. And then rent Broken City. A vastly Superior film.

I think the falling off the roof scene from The Adventures of Ford Fairlane was the best one ever. "Oh, my hair". Dice was awesome for a bit back then.

I love those kind of movies. I count Roadhouse in my top ten.

On both those, I'd say you couldn't be more wrong but I have faith you can.

The Departed rocked. Broken City was decent.........

Agreed with the bolded.  IMO it only won the Oscar because of the all-star cast.

I forget the story. But wasn't it sort of accepted that this was a makeup Oscar for something else then he got jobbed on? Maybe The Godfather or something?

By the way, Mark Wahlberg is Tommy Lee Jones of his generation. And that aint a compliment.

It was a make-up oscar for getting jobbed on a lot of movies...Raging Bull(Ordinary People), Goodfellas(Dances with Wolves),  are the biggest screw jobs.   Arguments have been made for Gangs of New York, The Aviator and Casino too.

I don't even understand the question

but I would pay to have a departed where Leo kills Damon, in the movie and real life.

+1  Outside of boogie nights, where his limited acting skills played well as campy..Mark Wahlberg just doesn't impress me at all.  But he does do decent movies.

Marky Mark is a hack. He was perfect for The Deprated because he didn't have to act

I thought MM was good in The Fighter. But then again, he just played a punchy Masshole. That's probably  not considered acting.

Good fast, fun fast paced movie with several outstanding performances.  If you liked Goodfellas, you will probably enjoy The Departed which is maybe just a step below in terms of quality.

Decent, but way over rated.

Nicholson and Sheen both seemed out of place.

Definitely a make up Oscar

They should make a movie about a geek from Texas who lies about being a NY cop and call it The Retarded.

Finally watched this movie.

It was definitely good...... but I was bothered by the lack of actual Irish accents from some of the characters. In SOA, the Irish dudes were legit - or least seemed so. Here? Meh.
