Fears of a second civil war grow among democrat & republican pundits

Article written March 2nd, 2019.

At a moment when the country has never seemed angrier, two political commentators from opposite sides of the divide concurred recently on one point that was once nearly unthinkable: The country is on the verge of “civil war.”

First came former U.S. attorney Joseph diGenova, a Fox News regular and ally of President Trump’s. “We are in a civil war,” he said. “The suggestion that there’s ever going to be civil discourse in this country for the foreseeable future is over. . . . It’s going to be total war.”

The next day, Nicolle Wallace, a former Republican operative turned MSNBC commentator and Trump critic, played a clip of diGenova’s commentary on her show and agreed with him — although she placed the blame squarely on the president.

Trump, she said, “greenlit a war in this country around race. And if you think about the most dangerous thing he’s done, that might be it.”

Then there’s the persistent worry by some about the 2020 election. “Given my experience working for Mr. Trump, I fear that if he loses the election in 2020, that there will never be a peaceful transition of power,” Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer and personal lawyer, told a congressional committee Wednesday.

Some historians have sounded a similar alarm. “How, when, and why has the United States now arrived at the brink of a veritable civil war?” Victor Davis Hanson, a historian with Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, asked last summer in an essay in National Review. Hanson said the United States “was nearing a point comparable to 1860,” about a year before the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter, S.C.

Around the same time Hanson was writing, Robert Reich, a former secretary of labor who is now a professor at the University of California at Berkeley, imagined his own new American civil war, in which demands for Trump’s impeachment lead to calls from Fox News commentators for “every honest patriot to take to the streets.”

Reich got some unlikely support recently from Stephen K. Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist. “I think that 2019 is going to be the most vitriolic year in American politics since the Civil War, and I include Vietnam in that,” Bannon said in an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Barbara Walter, a professor of political science at the University of California at San Diego, said her first instinct was to dismiss any talk of civil war in the United States. “But the U.S. is starting to show that it is moving in that direction,” she said. “Countries with bad governance are the ones that experience these wars.”

James Fearon, a Stanford University political scientist who researches political violence .... “I can’t believe I’m saying this,” he added, “but I guess it’s not entirely out of the question.”

The amusing part of this article is that one solution being presented is to silence people who talk about the potential for a civil war.  So basically, you look at the people on the verge of revolting and take away their freedom of speech.  I think that will have to exact opposite effect.  I don't think I could come up with a worse solution.

If there is a Civil War - and I get that feeling as every day goes by - we can put the full blame on the Democrats and the left side of the aisle.  That's not even debatable.

Their rhetoric and/or violence every time someone disagrees with them is off the charts.

The good news is that if a Civil War happens, it should end pretty quickly seeing as how most liberals are afraid of guns.  Heck, afraid of pictures of guns.

A civil war of Dems vs Repubs? Yeah, ok. Any idiot who participates in a civil war to kill someone based on their political views should be executed on the spot. It can be a three way civil war!

I mean we all know that Republicans are kind of troll like in nature, so they would shoulder more of the blame, obviously.

The left is actively trying to silence free speech they disagree with.  I agree a Civil War would be stupid over something like this, but because the left has amped everyone up on their side with their rhetoric, I can see them purposefully staging something that would ignite it.  Heck, look at the Jussie Smollette case.  All it would take is something a bit more like that at this point to set people off.

Honest question: what else would a war be fought over? Lol

not saying it’ll happen but isn’t that the only legitimate reason for a war?

Every civil war is a clash of political belief.

The first half is, most trolls are from the right, the second half not so much, as all the racial/gender wedge issues and censorship are coming from the left.

This civil war wouldn't have one main issue to be the reason for the war. It's stupid to even consider as a possibility

Nobody should ever take her seriously again. She's a race baiting rabble rouser and would be complicit in any civil war that might ensue.

Jesus Christ, these people and their focking rhetoric.

We are ALREADY in a soft Civil War.

The farther left Dems push will determine the time in which there will be fatalities on a grand scale.

It would be quite an accomplishment if Don leads us to civil war in his first term.

A legit reason for a civil war? No. There is no legit reason for a civil war. Ending slavery was a major move that caused civil war. Unless the Republicans can troll this country into a civil war, then I don't see a true reason anyone can get behind.

I think the left will react violently when these two soon come events occur.

Mueller report ends up as a dud with a no collusion conclusion

And then all the key players in creating and pursuing the ciminal conspiracy collusion illusion are indicted.

The left is gonna freak out when both of these events go down.

But let's be real, it will  all be fake outrage. Theres no way anyone with even a 1/4 of a brain couldnt see what this whole phony manufactured witch hunt was just that ....completely phony and concocted by illegal treasonous criminal means....

You just dont care because orange man bad and if it takes treason to get rid of him it's worth it.

Gonna be a great few weeks coming up.

If it's socialism vs. capitalism, I'm all in for civil war if it gets to that. I don't want big government. And I'm willing to fight against it.

All of the "hatred" and "division" is created by the media and pushed by career politicians and blue check nobodies on Twitter.

Nobody that I interact with in real life thinks about any of this. They are busy living their lives.

It is fun to slap fight here and troll the retards at CommieGuys but it is just entertainment, nothing more.

Although there are many, there was no bigger career politician than obama. And he and his voters destroyed race and gender relations. Hatred was his biggest accomplishment as president.

It will be interesting to see how many finally accept reality (She lost, He won, They spied on and attempted to overthrow a duly elected POTUS) and how many double down on their ignorance because their ego is too big.

Remember when Saints posted here up until the day he realized that IG Horowitz was legit? What a focking poosay. Didn't even have the balls to stick around after saying for months he would accept Horowitz' report.

And Sho, that poor kid tucked tail and ran when he realized the fake gang rape accusations against Kavanaugh were all bullshit. Too chicken shite to admit he was bamboozled.

If they (Saints & Sho) are indicative of the typical TDS lunatic then I doubt they (the general they) accept anything that happens in the next 12 months.

Maybe you can tell us what armed service you joined?

I find it hilarious that those who never joined the armed service criticize those who never joined the armed service.

A civil war fought on twitter and Facebook? Sure. In real life like with shooting and killing? No that’s not possible in modern times.
