DonS 3,067 Posted March 21, 2019 Heading to San Francisco this weekend for a concert. Aside from Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, and dodging piles of bum sh1t, what are some other sights worth checking out? Any Bay Area geeks have any recommendations?
jerryskids 5,191 Posted March 21, 2019 IMO you've captured the three major visitor attractions. Bum sh1t is the gift that keeps on giving there. I'm not from there, but I visited last year for a convention at Moscone Center. I rented a car but never needed it, and spent $30+ a day to park it. So if you are staying in SF and not heading out of the city, my advice is to use trains and ride shares. That being said, there is some hiking I've wanted to do north of the city in Marin County area, particularly Mt. Tamalpais to the coast: https://www.alltrails.com/lists/marin-county-trails Ping Bier Meister for SF restaurant recs.

DonS 3,067 Posted March 21, 2019 Great, now I have the Blue Oyster Bar music stuck in my head. Should've mentioned that we're not bothering with a rental. Hotel is right near the train so we'll use BART for to/from airport. Concert venue is also only about 5 blocks away from hotel.

Bier Meister 1,513 Posted March 22, 2019 Though, near Filmore and California there are a lot of good restaurants. Eliza's and elite cafe come to mind. Also, tenderloin is close to Japantown. Many good restaurants and shops.

DonS 3,067 Posted March 23, 2019 BART from SFO to downtown worked great. Enjoying some free wine in the hotel while we figure out where to eat. Haven't seen any bum sh1t yet, but the first thing we saw in the Powell St station was a dude with no shoes just sleeping right in the main hallway. Main difference from Seattle so far is people use umbrellas here.
