Well, we will never agree. In my mind, one is merely giving quarter to the other. Both are anti capitalist and a danger. I will leave you though with the point that while there has been outrage over this on the right, there are no riots. There are no campuses under siege, no students hiding in fear, buildings being vandalized. Those actions are pretty exclusively one side when they have outrage or don't get their way. And it's not people like you, it's those people who want to unravel our society. They don't want to live in it as it is today. When you have that mindset, violence is easy and it's justified. Obviously an assassination is the pinnacle of bad acts, but the others can also be reprehensible and shows the mentality of those involved.

Kirk didn't really spread hate. People just hated what he had to say. He didn't really say hateful things, he said things people hated to hear. If that makes sense.

If you watch toddlers with little verbal ability react to situations, you can see how and why we become stunted by the lack of actual social interaction. Toddler doesn't get his way? He hits. He screams. He bites. He throws things. Without proper emotional development, this toddler grows in to a person who has no idea what to do with how he feels. It just amplifies. There are SO many having mental health crises, it doesn't always end in shootings or whatever. But it's because they just don't have the emotional where with all, and sometimes the support around them to try and help them understand.

There are so many layers to this, I had a huge response typed out but I really don't want the backlash. Our young mens brains (or just young people in general) are just being screwed up from the age of 2 and older. Give 'em an iPad. Don't teach them what it feels like to lose a game, or get bullied. They have a complete lack of emotional intelligence. You can't figure out how to discuss or debate? Call them names. That doesn't work? Beat them up, or go destroy something, that will make you feel better. That doesn't work? Go kill someone just because. Go make a name for yourself, etc. It ALL starts with young brain development and emotional intelligence. Add feminism, social media, health care and lack of other resources and there are a lot of people out there who just do NOT think about their actions and consequences.

We need a culture shift. We need better leadership. We need less division.

Had a long talk with my son over dinner about the Kirk assassination. I told him that between the mental health crisis, easy access to guns, and the tone of political rhetoric in this country, I’m not surprised this sort of thing keeps happening. Every time you call someone Hitler, call them the enemy of the people, falsely accuse folks of heinous crimes etc. it’s like flicking a lot match at a pool of gasoline. I told him violence isn’t the answer. Kirk had a wife and kid who loved him, and we shouldn’t ever gloat over a tragedy, even though Kirk himself trafficked in exactly the sort of rhetoric that makes this kind of violence more likely. My son said Kirk seemed to believe what he said. I told him that’s true and there’s some integrity in that, unlike people who say outrageous things just for cash clicks and attention. But, I told him you can have integrity and still he dead wrong and reckless. “Do you know who else meant what he said even though he was dead wrong and dangerous?” He asked me who. I said “That guy Dave down the block. He believes everything he says, and he’s a retarded jackass.” We had a good laugh and played some Madden. I love my boy.
