What's weird to me is that the stimulus package from the great recession put 20 million additional people on SNAP. And they've just been there ever since. https://share.google/images/q11vLBZuiHx246vXV Was the expectation that these people would be on government assistance for the rest of their lives? We created a whole new generation of welfare recipients that were fine before the housing crisis, but now apparently are going to forever be poverty stricken and starve without food stamps? If you don't force these people off the program, they'll never get off the program.2 points

I didn’t come up with it. Been listening a lot to POTUS radio on Sirius- Julie Mason, who is pretty centrist and, I think, thoughtful and objective. Also not everyone on MSNBC disagrees with this. Try watching Stephanie Ruhle. She may be the smartest person on that network as she looks at everything from a financial POV. She thinks, as I do, that this is ultimately a huge win for Democrats.2 points

Read it over the weekend. Quick easy read. I didn’t follow his injuries and surgeries at all so this was all news to me. It’s amazing he made it to the “Back to the Beginning” show and not to surprised he passed not too long afterwards. If a fan recommended reading.1 point

Japan was offering 100 year mortgages back in the day when their housing prices skyrocketed. I don't know if they still do that today. It's all bad. People need to stop buying stuff they can't afford and housing prices will stop going up.1 point

Likewise. Him, Eddie Van Halen, and Lemmy Kilmister are the only people I've never met that deeply affected me when they passed.1 point

They didn't pinch the filibuster because of the ramifications it could have in the future. More SC justices, Puerto Rico and DC statehood etc. I said this before, why should the R's have to change the law in order to get this done when all the D's had to do was vote to continue--as they had before. The dems tried to strong arm this and they came out of it looking exceptionally weak. Yeah, you're right...depending on the media, either side will claim the others lost here. Not a shocking thing. But I am going with my opinion, saying the R's failed the people because they didn't change the law in order to work around a D hissy fit is absurd. . Unlike like what I see from most D's, the R's were using reason and understanding that blowing up the filibuster would be very bad in the long term. Strategic thinking...Something I feel is lacking with the D's. Now, the spite thing? Yeah not a fan. But the thing is, others have done it in the past and would do it again. What the D's are struggling with is Trump will actually say the quiet part out loud. He has no filter. Affordable health care? It's only affordable because the gubbermint is subsidizing it. That's why. Now if you are in the camp of the subsidies are ok in your world, I respect that. But the ACA has cause MASSIVE increases in health care costs. So now the gubbermint has to spend more and more and more to cover what was a poorly designed health plan. And that's generally how gubbermint works, throw more money at a bad problem. Amtrak and the postal service immediately come to mind. There are a lot of things about this President I do not like. Lots. But I will not agree that this was the R's fault for the shutdown. The D's rolled the dice and came up craps.1 point

But he’s right and it explains why immigrants come here and make their fortune but couldn’t do so in their own country. It takes a lot of moving organized parts that are not corrupt to build a functional business, not just a great idea. It’s funny how you all knit pick every syllable Obama made but you completely ignore all the lies Trump tells. Where is the lie in his statement? It’s like saying a great QB wins games. It’s the team of players not just the QB. I love Tommy and he’s the greatest, no doubt, he’s been a winner wherever he’s been, but he didn’t get all those rings all by himself.1 point

Im all for anyone connected with epsteins illegal crap being exposed. That being said. These two have nothing to do with each other. The dems are getting killed over their deliberately shutting down the government. Then giving in and gaining absolutely nothing. It was a childish play that of course backfired on them massively. Now, does that mean the younger dems are happy about all of this? Sure. Liberal thinking is bad enough, childish liberal thinking is outright dangerous.1 point

So much wrong with this. But I’ll limit my response to the two bolded areas: 1. Because those “benefits” are necessary to feed people so it’s a moral question. 2. Wrong. Most politicians, Republican and Democrat alike, do care. Donald Trump does not.1 point
-
so of course if you just look at the simple concept of hungry people needing food... for example if there was no government shutdown and Trump! just decided to end snap and threaten states who were trying to feed people, cant defend that. but it is not that cut and dry. When both sides cant work together to prevent a government shutdown, and part of the consequences of that shutdown include snap benefits, why would you want to allow states to still distribute those benefits? It makes no sense to allow the other side to continue prolonging the shut down AND reduce the repercussions of it. Without debating which side was more at fault for the shutdown, obviously each side felt the other was more at fault. So logically you would want voters to feel the impact of it to some degree. politics is a game. most of them do not actually care about the people. you're a big time political hack so you believe your side does1 point

Lawrence O'Donnell was calling it a huge win for the democrats last night but I don't know how much I agree with him. I didn't listen to Stephanie last night. I think she's great. Smart tough Jersey girl with a history on Wall St.1 point

So? You are voting D no matter whether it's a pee pee toucher like Biden, a cackling d1ck sucking idiot like Kamala, or someone else.1 point

The shutdown benefited the Democrats. Ending the shutdown benefited the Democrats. The Democratic base getting royally pissed off and blaming moderate Dems for caving also benefits the Democrats. The goal of the Democrats above all else is to gain control of the House in 2027, possibly the Senate as well, and the Presidency in 2029. This shutdown helped them do that by making Republicans go on record regarding healthcare and affordability, which will be the two decisive issues coming up.1 point

I didn't even make it to halftime.. The field conditions and PHI players slipping. The ridiculousness of offensive offsides NEVER being called. And, BTW, I noticed that A LOT, recently. In real-time, not even the replays. HORRENDOUS officiating this season.1 point

My take on this was I don’t believe this to be a major issue that voters focus on. I don’t think I ever see this show up on polls of issues that voters care about. Do you? Maybe I’m mistaken there. The larger issues is attempting to protect people from discrimination. It then seeps into things like sports. My understanding of Biden’s orders on this was that he was looking to mitigate discrimination but also allowed schools to set limits necessary to have fairness and safety. This is a complicated topic that if it gets boiled down to simply that a man wants to play in women’s sports…well that is no for me.1 point

LOL wow, richard. I just don't like housing excrement within my dwelling. It's not like I'm drowning kittens over here. This wanker can't be bothered to take me off ignore even when I respond to him in good faith because well, he's a lying wanker. Instead, they like to make (semi-funny, so partial credit I guess) jokes at my expense. Get it together, @Strike. At least if you can't be humorous, man up and discuss things. You are kind of right about one thing: I am averse to you, and you are a coward, which is a slang synonym for the bolded.1 point
