Weekend update: 3 out of 5 photon torpedo sessions done, so far so good. I'm maybe a little tired, but it's hard to tell. I'm also fighting cancer and it's been over 100 degrees here. Like last time, the radiation techs love my music choice of 90s Alt Rock. Yesterday I had a new tech, maybe 40, but clearly a fan. He asked who my favorite group of that era was, and I said I had to go with Tool. He's also a big fan; he told me about Tool prepping for a run at the Sphere, and I told him that one of those "candlelight concert" string quartets is doing a Tool show at the Phx Art Museum in June (these are really cool btw; I've seen the Beatles and Queen). Anyway, they strapped me in and the music started; some song but he changed it to Tool Schism. It's great musically, but it didn't occur to me until afterwards that the lyrics were eerily appropriate. It's about a relationship gone bad, but if you think of cancer as a cruel mistress (as I have been recently, for a short memoir I'm thinking of writing), it kinda fits, especially the destructive imagery for both cancer and radiation (smoldering, disintegrating, burned a hole). Anyway, I'm doing fine. My wife is out of town at a niece's bridal shower, but my daughter came over last night to keep me company. We watched Weapons (meh...), ate sushi, and she helped me care for our sick cat. He seems somewhat better this morning, so hopefully he has turned a corner. I'm going to pop over to the gym and make an appearance for my friends there, but I'll just walk/jog the treadmill vs. taking a HIIT class. Otherwise it's mostly butt on couch for one of my favorite weekends of the year sports wise.

If I got banned a month for quoting Charlie Kirk the day he dies, half the people in this thread should be banned for a year. Shameful.

It's like we are speaking two different languages here. Libs want a constant threat of as many enemies as possible. When we possess the greatest military of all time, they don't want to actually use it to make the world a safer place. They also want third worlders who have a more base mentality to take over the west. Those of us with common sense cannot understand them. Conversely they cannot understand our motivations.

First off as always best of luck of you. Second, it’s frustrating that you and many others don’t seem to understand, or simply don’t want to acknowledge, that there ISN’T more than one side of Donald Trump. This is who the man is. His position here is the same one that informs all of his actions that you support.

So many things that Trump has done are right out of the Nazi Germany authoritarian playbook from the early 1930s. We just have a better system of checks and balances to keep him from becoming the dictator he desires to be.

And again we face a series of contradictions in the current pro-MAGA conservative mindset: 1. They agree with most of the rest of us that the government is evil. 2. They would like to see an uprising among the Iranian people. They have pointed to celebrations by the Iranian people as proof of the success of this war. 4. But they also believe that the Iranian people, being Muslim, are just as fanatic as the government. 5. They don’t want to accept any refugees from this war. In fact they don’t want to accept any Muslims here period believing that the Muslim religion in itself is evil and poisonous to Western culture. You can’t have it both ways. Furthermore, reasonable people realize that of the over one billion Muslims on this planet, only a minority, including the current Iranian regime, are fanatical and evil. But MAGA is an unreasonable, illogical philosophy. Their position on this issue is only one part of the many parts of evidence that demonstrate this.

Almost as honorable if Obama‘s daughters joined. They are old enough now. Or is that only an issue when conservatives decide to put our troops out?

They were already chanting "Death to America" anyways. The only difference is now, we have finally given them a really, really, really, first-rate reason to do so. Rather than just go through the motions anymore, the emotional intensity of the moment renews their enthusiasm and rage when they do it. I like to collect their tears in my cup, add some ice, a twist of lemon, put in a straw, decorate it with one of those tiny paper folding umbrellas mmmmmm ... so yummy these last few weeks.

You keep coming back to the installation of democracy. That is the ideal outcome, yes, that's best for them and if we can help we will. But don't hold your breathe. It doesn't look like that's happening right now, we aren't forcing the issue and since we'll be leaving soon. We'll settle for just about anything: democracy is the prefered option and the hopes of such is why we have refrained from bombing the infrastructire, but: mullahs, failed state, Turkish takeover, Taliban takeover, Tina Turner from Mad Max takeover, zombie apocalypse. Whatever. Hopefully the zombies know how to extract oil from the ground; so long as they don't figure out how to build nukes, it's OK.

Trump is now talking about just walking away from this mess and letting our allies deal with Hormuz. This of course matches his life pattern: whenever one of his businesses failed due to his stupidity he would simply declare bankruptcy and leave it for his partners to handle as best they could. The problem with this is that if Hormuz remains closed we suffer too.

And for the 60% of Americans who don’t want this war. And every Republican running for office this fall.

I’m a little cornfused as to how bombing Iran is going to result in less hostile leadership that doesn’t sponsor terror or try to develop nuclear weapons. We killed their 86 y/o leader and Iran replaced him with another radical the next day. Do we keep playing whack a mole forever? This feels very much like Don got sold on the idea this would be another Venezuela and he doesn’t have any goals or plan. My guess is we declare “victory” and pull out in a few months and the net result is basically where we were at before the war. Mission Accomplished?

Well we did attack them initiating war in coordination with Israel taking out their Supreme Leader and dozens of other top officials and we took out their navy, most of their missiles, lots of drones, and we and Israel are still attacking them, so I'd say it's a stretch to say Trump did not back it up when he did all of this two months after he made the threat.

The key is not to save the people from terrorism, it's to enable the people to save themselves from terrorism. And the mission is to take away Iran's ability to continue mass terrorism around the world including the US and to keep them from getting nuclear weapons. Which is the biggest reason of all.

They may not care for your politics (I don't) but you're cool. People get so bent here over politics. I'm guilty of it too, but I can say that most of my favorite posters here don't share most of my political views. Same goes for the handful of guys I can't stand. I'd have a beer with pretty much anyone here, other than peefoam. Nobody likes peefoam.
