You could probably talk me into Penix

Here is my ideal situation. Trade #3 to The Vikings for # 11, # 23 & next years first round pick (probably a top 10 pick). When the 11th pick comes up if JJ McCarthy is still there get the Chargers on the phone and offer them McCarthy for Herbert straight -up. If they say yes, GREAT! If not, take McCarthy, or Penix @ 11 and then the best available WR/OT at 23. I would then again grab the best WR/OT @ 34. I would also grab a Center in this draft if I were the Pats in the 3rd/4th round. Dave Andrews ain't gonna be around for ever. There are a CRAPLOAD of holes on the offensive side of the ball from years of neglect from BB, so this is going to take a couple of years of really nailing the draft in order to straighten out. In the scenario that I have presented, the Pats will have 2 picks in the top 10 next year as well (Yes. Nobody wants to say the real part out loud. Even if the Pats kill this draft, they are still going to suck next year.). If they miss on whatever QB they take, they will have the ammunition to take one of the top QB's at the top of next years draft. If they hit on the QB that they take this year, they will be in great position next draft to grab another elite WR prospect, or Tackle prospect.

I still haven't seen anything that makes me believe there's a better QB in this class, but that's just me perhaps

How about the raw stats and game film? I am sorry, but this guy scares the crap out of me as a Pats fan. He has prototypical size and weight. He can throw the ball with a lot of velocity with a tight spiral, but these things do not make a great NFL quarterback. His footwork is sloppy (to put it mildly) and that is what gets young QB's in trouble. The PAts O Line is going to suck again and he will be running for his life, if they start him week one. Would the Pats be open to sitting him as he gets coaching and learns the position? I'm sure that they would to begin with, but what about when Brissett goes 2-7 out of the gate and the fans start to get loud about their displeasure? I'll be honest. I am hoping that Washington takes him. If I were the Pats and Mayes fell to me, I'd trade down with the Vikings. Maybe next years QB's will be a better match for the Pats. Let's be honest, regardless of what the Patriots do this year in the draft, they are going to be right back in the top 5 picks next year as well. There's just too much that needs to be upgraded.

  3. After seeing how things fell after selecting Kelce in the first round, I do not think that I will be employing this plan in my $$$ leagues. The drop-off at RB is just too steep after the 3rd round. That said, I am not sorry about my selections of Brown & Hurts in rounds 2 & 3. I particularly though that I got good value on Brown halfway through the 2nd round. I think that my WR's will be more of a strength than Fumble believes, but we will see. Those guys aren't spring chickens, but have all had success in their past. I think that my best hope for my RB group is mediocrity. I'll keep my fingers crossed that that is enough for my team to succeed.
