  1. Will V be the kicker for IND or has Martin G been picked up again??

I need to find a quick replacement for V if he can't play (Feely - NYG??)

    thanks

When I picked him up on Friday he was questionable but they said he would play. I haven't heard anything different since then.

  2. Yes, it's early to make these predictions but I see this comparison pretty clearly...

Colston = Gates (Brees' favorite target for intermediate and short stuff and the #1 non-RB receiving option)

Horn = McCardel (older vet who will get those rare deep outs that Brees often avoids)

Bush/McAllister = LT2 (tons of carries and receptions)

Brees has uncanny accuracy and he doesn't need guys with great deep speed or shiftyness who get separation. He just needs/likes a big, sure handed target who can work underneath (like Gates and now Colston).

Yes, Gates is a special talent but with Rivers, he just looks like a nice TE - not the comprehensive offensive weapon he was with Brees. Colston with any other QB would look like just another big rookie WR/TE (maybe a guy good for a red zone look or two) but with Brees - he'll become "Baby Gates".

When I saw the way Breed jumped up and down for Colston's TD, I was sold on Colston.

The fact they traded away Stallworth doesn't hurt either.

  3. A swelling knee after week 1 in practice isn't good any way you slice it, he makes me nervous which is why I took Parker over him, it may backfire but I already have ulcers from my keeper SS.

I have Westbrook, and I agree, I'm very nervous about him this year.

  4. I think there are a lot of factors working in Colston's favor:

    1. Horn is coming into the twilight of his career, he will be 35 in January.

    2. From eveything I've heard the coaching staff say about him, they seem to love him.

    3. Brees has said that Colston can do it all and called him his go to guy.

    4. He seems to have a great attitude.

I feel very good about the chances of him ending up with the best WR stats for N.O. at the end of the year. Considering that I got him off of waivers in every league I'm in, there really is no risk associated with him.

  5. Portis has become Betamax.

I was pick 2.7 and I just couldn't pull the trigger on him. I ended up taking McGahee instead, the whole time I was hoping someone else would take Portis so I didn't have to make the decision. It's hard to pass on him in the middle of the second round, but I just have a bad feeling about him.

  6. Without going back and checking, I believe I picked him up in the 11th or 12th. Usually I ALWAYS draft a TE by the 8th, but I tried something different this year. I think one of the reasons he lasted so late is because this was a 2 QB league, so QBs were at a premium in the middle rounds. Still there were several TEs taken above him. I followed that up with Troupe in the 14th round.

I did the same thing you did, but I took Watson in the 10th and Troupe in the 12th. I think there's a good chance that at least one of them finishes in the top ten.

  7. Do you think it is a coincidence that the Redskins, who were very happy with Betts, all of a sudden need to trade for a RB? They are already saying Portis may not be ready for the regular season and that's probably the best case scenario. Even if he is ready, this move tells me that they don't plan on using Portis in short yardage or goal line situations to reduce the wear and tear on his weakened shoulder. If you take Portis, you better make sure you get Duckett because he will probably have a significant role, especially at the beginning of the season.

  8. i wish they could break it out to just KWarner targeting LFitz v. ABoldin... but on the surface this makes me feel ALOT more like ABoldin really is the #1 WR in ARZ considering he played 2 less games than LFitz. I know alot of people think that LFitz gets more of the redzone looks, but ABoldin has had 8 TDs in each of the 2 years he's really got to play full years - that's not too shabby to add on to his yardage numbers and this number of targets.

Another note is that CChambers was being targeted by QBs that are no longer there, so it'll be interesting to see what CPep does w/ him. And these numbers also make me like Plax a little better to be the #2 WR on a ff team. I've already had him creeping up my board, and it makes me believe he could really be a good value at his current ADP of 4.03.

I remember reading somewhere last year towards the end of the year a site had targets broken down game by game. There was a stretch towards the end of the year where Boldin had significantly more targets than Fitz when Warner was in there. I can't remember the site, but I had Fitz at the time and I always watched the play by play on NFL.com and noticed that Boldin was getting a lot of passes his way every time I would watch.

  9. Brown will be gone by pick #10 in 99% of drafts, by pick #9 in most of those. He will make or break many squads this season. He should perform, and return that value, given the amount of usage expected. He and Caddy usually fall back to back with Brown falling first. What amazes me is the fact that Rudi is falling right at the corner in a 12 man draft. I took Caddy at #10 in the Jetdoc Mock and feel I should have went with Rudi.

I have the sixth pick in a redraft and I think I'm going to take him. I also have the third pick in an initial dynasty and am considering him here as well.

  10. I'm involved with a mock draft (on another site) and it looks like this:

    1. Houston D'Brickashaw Ferguson OL UVA

    2. New Orleans -Mario Williams DE NCSt

    3. Tennessee - Matt Leinart QB USC

    4. N.Y. Jets - Reggie Bush RB USC

    5. Green Bay - Michael Huff DB Texas

    6. San Francisco - Vernon Davis TE Maryland

    7. Oakland - AJ Hawk LB OSU

    8. Buffalo - Winston Justice OL USC

    9. Detroit - Vince Young QB Texas

    10. Arizona - Broderick Bunkley DL FSU

    11. St. Louis - Jimmy Williams DB VaTech

Jets fan would finally rejoice !!! and not boo

I think there is almost zero chance Bush lasts until the fourth pick.

  11. Kimo is 35 years old, I love the guy, but his long time replacement was resigned long term. Keisel played out of his mind toward the end of the season. Steelers will need to find a backup. I consider this a downgrade only cause the rotation during the course of a game will be hurt overall. But Keisel is a very, very capable replacement for Kimo.

Chris Hope lost, with Ryan Clark coming in from the Skins. From all the things I have read on Clark and all the comments from Skins fans on other baords, this is an equal tradoff in talent. Clark is a prototype Steeler type hard nosed loves to hit ya in the mouth player.

Bettis 1 yard runs will be replaced by Staley one yard runs or a rookie's one yard runs. I am not concerned the least about losing Bettis other than his leadership.

Randle El had 1 receiving TD all regular season and that came week #1, so he went 15 straight games without a receiving TD. As a WR, it is not hard to upgrade or equal that production. Cedrick Wilson will fill his slot and showed a lot the second half of the season in limited opportunities. Quincy Morgan would be the #3 WR. But the loss of El is on punt returns where he was always good for a couple TDs every year and as a gimmick play guy (obvious from the Superbowl and the Cincy playoff game). But Steelers have former QBs in Ward, Heath Miller and even Cedrick Wilson that could fill that roll as needed. Ward did what El did before El came in.

You would think after years and years of seeing the Steelers up close and personal you would realize that the Steelers build through the draft. They don't usually bring in overpaid washed up veterans to fill gaps, they have guys waiting on their roster to step it up when someon else leaves. It happens year after year. And nobody outside of Pitt and the Pats do it better. Also the Steelers resign their own players at least a year in advance to avoid gaps in their teams. You never notice these signings cause they usually do it one year in advace of them becoming FAs. Guys like Faneca, Hartings, Marvel Smith, Ward, Aaron Smith, Hampton, Haggans, Porter, Farrior, Foote, Townshend are resigned every year under the radar.

In summary, Steelers have all of their starters in place right now headed into the draft and their entire starting lineup (outside of Ike Taylor who may sign longterm soon) are signed thru the next 2 years. I would say there is a reason they are quiet, it's cause they are set not only this year but next year too.

Teams that make the biggest splash in free agency are the teams that don't know how to draft or who don't do a good job of resigning their own talent that they did develop.

Oh yeah, and how many players do you need to replace after you win a superbowl? It's not like there were a lot of holes to begin with. 19 out of 22 starters for the Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers were drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. That is why there are no FA signings, they have superior draft picks that fill their roster, very little need for FA.

  12. Yea, I guess when you SLOW the tape down and every move is magnified then it looks like it was a foul. But if you watch the play in real time it was just a normal thing that happens in the game. There was no way that CB could have made a play on that ball if Jackson never touched him. It was a perfect pass and Jackson had the positioning, putting his hand on the CB had no effect on that play.

Every big play Seattle had was called back on a bs call. Of course Seattle got screwed.

So you think that in slow motion where every move is magnified it looks like a penalty, but at regular speed it looks like a normal play that happens all the time? Well, I think you should call the NFL and have them quit using slow motion in instant replay because they've had it wrong all these years. I mean, why would you want to slow it down so you can see things better when you play it at regular unmagnified speed? Outstanding!

  13. USA Today has to be liking this. The sales of their Monday and Tuesday papers will increase dramatically, as leagues go back to manual calculation of weekly scores.

    Fantasy changes:

    1. Simpler scoring systems, which make it easier to calculate using the box score in the paper.

    2. Increase traffic for free web hosting business as leagues create their own basic web sites to pass along weekly stats and information.

These were my first thoughts as well. I know someone who has already created a website to run his league. A lot of people will do that or do their scoring by hand. This is a really bad idea by the NFL. FF is the biggest reason the NFL is as popular as it is.
