  1. I dont know if this is a factor you consider: Garoppolo is playing in Atlanta where it is projected to be sunny but a bit cool. Tannehill is projected to play in rain. I do generally prefer QB's playing under good field conditions. That being said, Tannehill has played in Miami, so likely he has played and practiced in rain many times before. I'd bet on Garoppolo to put up better fantasy numbers,. but I dont think Tanehill will put up bad numbers. I think the weather plays to his advantage in terms of getting a win. but not for stats.

Kaepernick getting a workout on Saturday

look this is a fair comment by Mr. Elway. it is not atypical for a team who has been snubbed by a player to refuse to give that player a shot at some point in the future. If any team is to be held blameless I'd suggest Denver and San Fran (who Kap snubbed to become a free agent) are two teams who have every right to not wanna give him a second chance.
  3. when the chips are down, you dont go with a guy who fumbles. although Carson had I think 2 bad games early in the year, and has no history of fumbling prior to this. But if the alternative is looking almost as good, but no fumbles, thats an awfully tempting alternative.
  4. well, there are varying levels of severity this could be. I guess the practice reports will be our only real guide I hope hes ok. I need him for the fantasy playoffs

yeah, no offers. But lots of times before making an offer, a team may inquire (informally) what salary range is expected. if, as a team you are prepared to pay 3-5 million for a backup QB and hes asking 15 million, you dont negotiate, you just simply dont make an offer. that's what I do when I hire people out of university. if the Entry level posituion is 40-50 grand for someone fresh out of university, the guy asking for 80 grand is not in line with reality in applying for this job. If their expectations are not in line with reality, and they agree to work for 50k, they will likely feel that they are 'underpaid' and become a malcontent. (I've seen it happen). at that point, a dissatisfied employee is rarely a productive and happy one. I'd suggest the same principle applies here. so if Kap tells teams he expects more than 10 M, nobody is gonna make him an offer. I like the guy, but if hes my backup I'm just not paying him that much. and if he then agrees to 3 Mil, will he be a malcontent on the roster? do you need to take the chance? I guess that's another way to look at the problem. but we dont have the information behind the scenes. we dont know what was said behind closed doors, and neither side is talking. So in truth, we dont 100% know whether Kap was treated fairly or not. As it looks like he received some kind of settlement, I suspect the NFL isnt completely blameless but that is just based on the optics of the situation. I'm just offering a different way to look at things. I have just as good a chance to be right as anybody else out there speculating on the situation.

I disagree. there are a lot of coaches who like pocket passers and the system is setup to accomodate a pocket passer. While the league appears to be moving towards having mobile QB's, not all systems are designed for them. I'm not saying he couldnt get it done as a pocket passer, but if you are not going to use his feet as an asset in your offense, then why sign the guy. I'm sure the press about him and the flag play a role. I dont think the NFL wanted the sideshow, but I also think if they colluded to keep him out of the league, that was the wrong thing to do. that being said, we are now getting to the point where Kaep has been out of football and its legitimate to ask if he can still get it done. I do hope he gets one more shot, but I'm skeptical that it will ever happen. it is even possible that if he was given a fair shot, he may not make the cut just because of his time away from football (too rusty). Dude is now on the wrong side of the age of 30 (now 32 years old) so each year he sits, his chances of making it decline by a significant margin. I figure if he does not play in the next 12-18 months, he will never play. Like it or not, that's probably the truth of it.

valid comment. people have done far worse than him and not been subjected to the kind of treatment that he has had to face.

Kaepernick getting a workout on Saturday

a very short sighted comment. He was a very good QB in the NFL for a period of time. Granted during those good years I posted and said hes not as good as his stats showed. but I'd also argue on those terrible SF teams he played on he was not as bad as the stats showed either. He has shown a lot of leadership in the Black community and has put his efforts towards achieving good things. I would argue that his heart is in the right place. And for that reason, he could be a good influence on a team with lots of African Americans on the roster. The problem with a QB like him is that there are not a lot of teams equipped to run an offense with a mobile, running QB so his possible landing spots where he can be successful is limited. The other problem could possibly be that Kap may have salary expectations that are not in line with reality. While nobody has published any actual offers turned down or demands made by him, I get the feeling he was asking for starting QB money when, in fact, he may have to bide his time as a backup before becoming a starter. smart move for him would be to sign a 1 year deal with a QB needy team and try to make the best of things for the balance of the year. Whether that happens (or not) remains to be seen.
  9. I agree, they are no longer an autostart for all defenses. but their line is still terrible. I'd expect teams with a great pass rush and at least a solid secondary will still get points for sacks as Dalton isnt mobile enough to avoid the inevitable with a leaky line. but I'd expect the INT's wont be there anymore. as a general rule, he throws less than one INT per game on average. This (pick 6)is usually the cause of defenses getting large scores in any fantasy game so Yeah, I think it is safe to say, you now have to look at who the defense is they are up against.

    49ers defense for real?

Look, the stats show the team is good, but I generally dont go by stats. I've watched a couple of games, and they pass the eye test. I think they will be a top defense for some years if they can stay healthy as a unit.
  11. Ray_T

    Chark or Diggs???

Thelen only cuts into Diggs numbers if fully healthy. I think hes on a pitch count this week. Dont get me wrong, I love Chark, but Diggs is your play this week.
  12. given what happened off the field, this may actually be the only reason he's been able to return to the NFL.

    Hypothetical Situation - Clueless Owner

so if you have injuries or multiple players on Bye in any given week you get screwed over? I'm not sure I'm liking this format. but its not my league, so if you guys all like it.... knock yourselves out.
  14. whenever a signing occurs, it is generally concerning because what made the team want to bring a free agent (who has not played all year) and put them on the active roster. if they have not released a RB to make room for said player, I have to believe they feel the issue is concerning enough that they require extra 'insurance'

    Hypothetical Situation - Clueless Owner

it is a bit much. in this scenario, did the commiish do this in previous weeks with the same player? if not, why is he suddenly doing it with you. this should have been brought up with the league before unilaterally doing this.....or there should be a rule in place to address such things. either way, not a cool way to handle it. if the GM had been doing this all season long with everyone, then this action is actually ok because there is a consistency in the way the remedy to the situation has been applied. I generally dont like it when this sort of thing happens arbitrarily after weeks of inaction regardless of who the beneficiary is.
  16. Ray_T

    Hypothetical Situation - Clueless Owner

well, it also depends. if a GM has a number of players on bye(or injured), and does not want to risk waivers by dropping one, it will sometimes happen deliberately. usually this is more of a risk with teams who have already imploded and no longer can compete for a playoff spot.

wrong. this is when DJ is more likely to play. its all about misdirection. tell everyone he will play then put him in one play and then sit. now that everyone things hes injured, they may actually play him.
  19. Ray_T

    Hypothetical Situation - Clueless Owner

This. Players who dont at least keep up their team generally ruin the parity of the league. but as mentioned earlier by Axe elf. if the first place team has an injured player starting, chances are good that nobody says anything. but In general a nudge to get any semi active player more active is one that should be viewed as a move that is good for the league.

    Darnold ROS

Look man, I'm not sure the sample size is sufficient to call this kid top 5. even top 10 is pushing it. Last year, (his rookie year) he had 4 good games out of roughly 12 starts. as a rookie, this isnt really unexpected. Lots of rookies have a hard time in year 1. so far this year he has had 2 starts. one in week 1 where he wasnt very good. and one last week where he was good. the truth is we havnt seen enough of him to determine how good he is (or isnt) yet. I agree, last week he looked better than he did most of last year, but this is only one start. At this point, hes a player of interest who should be on your bench in deeper leagues or who should be on the wire and picked up for select matchups. If you feel he has potential, you stick him on your bench until he proves himself to a point where you are comfortable starting him but as of now, hes not a player I'd start on my team. Player of interest. yes. good potential. yes. but this is too much too soon given the body of work

ok I dont understand your logic here. if hes the 5th ranked player in PPR, that places him at the end of the first round in most leagues. 7th ranked generally would go early to mid 2nd round pick. This is because top ranked players in other positions go in round 1. Generally the first 6 picks in round 1 of any draft are game breakers. the kind of player that can and does win games for you by themselves by getting in excess of 20 fantasy points. you expect them to do it 4 or 5 times a year usually and to have consistent output to the level that they perform well even if they dont act as a gamebreaker in that week. Last year, DJ was consistently solid, but for the most part lacked the game breaking ability he has shown in the past. I personally think the talent is still there, but playing on a crappy team with a terrible line means the holes just dont open up like they need to for him to go out and dominate a game for you week in and week out. Thats the difference between a top 5 overall pick and a 2nd round pick. and a late first or early second round pick is what DJ is. I have him in one of my leagues. Hes a RB1 but not an elite one. (not this year anyways) yes he is an elite talent, but talent does not always translate to fantasy points. especially when you are a RB playing on a crappy team with a terrible O line. I think as this team improves, he will be that player again, but he cannot be working with negative game scripts as often as he has and the line has to be better than awful for this to happen as well.

    Josh Gordon Buy Low?

yeah, because of the off field nonsense, his value is low. he should be rostered, but he's not a starter. just a backup with high upside.
  23. Ray_T

Ryan Tannehill to start for TEN

Lots of players out there are able to put up numbers in garbage time. Cecil Shorts was one of those guys. of course in Fantasy, you dont care about the quality of the yards. you only care that they get them. (and TD's) so grabbing a garbage time allstar on a losing team can be a good strategy for a 3rd WR on your roster. You can usually get them on the cheap too.
  24. Ray_T

    David Johnson

I cannot agree with that. If you are picking him top 5 overall, you are expecting him to be top 2 or top 3 at his position.
  25. Ray_T

Ryan Tannehill to start for TEN

This move is fantasy relevant more for the WR than it is for the QB (unless you are in a league that starts 2 QB) Tanehill is likely only startable against crappy defenses and only if your starter has a terrible matchup. but this should affect the WR on that team in a far more significant way. some who have not been rostered are now in a position where they should be rostered. whether that move will be significant enough to make them starters really depends on the depth of your league. but the bottom line is this is a fantasy significant move. I would expect one WR on that team will be startable moving forward. (as compared to the zero we had with Mariota at QB)
