  1. hes an adequate backup who can catch passes.

you can throw him in on a passing down and give Pacheco a breather for a play or two. Hes not specacular, but if the salary is reasonable, I dont mind the signing.

As for Dobbins,  hes coming back from an Achilles after previously tearing the ACL (and I think PCL) a couple years earlier on the same leg.  I question whether he'd be able to get off the PUP list until a few games into the year, and I honestly dont know that hed be productive this year if he did play.

hes a guy you might sign for league minimum and keep rehabbing him in the hope hes useful for you come playoff time or for NEXT year.

but I can seriously see a lot of teams taking a pass on him given the state of his health.

It's all speculative at this point. I'm just saying what some people who were supposedly there said and explaining the law.

Not saying it makes sense or that he will get convicted of that, but it's how the law works.

I would be shocked if he wasn't drinking at least some and it would surprise me more if he didn't have a gun than if he did.

It's all for the courts to decide at this point. He can afford a good lawyer so my guess is it will get pleaded down to some sort of misdemeanor and he will get a slap on the wrist.

    yep.

Thats pretty much where I'm at

no point saying much more until some more facts come out.

That's my concern as well. He's had a couple very serious injuries already. At least he's still very young but I doubt anyone thinks he's a starter

no.  but he likely thinks he is.

at the end of the day if a team can pay the price of a backup on a 1 or 2 year prove it deal they might be inclined to sign him with the hope he shows some of that upside hes flashed on one of the few occasions hes been healthy.

I don't know all the nuances of the law, but if you commit a felony while in possession of a firearm, it makes he charge more serious in the eyes of the law.

Fleeing the scene unarmed vs fleeing the scene armed. It's a more threatening situation when he's armed.

well,  most people who commit felony's have done some act of violence, robbery or something of the like.

in this case he was driving like an idiot.

linking the two for purpose of sentencing is a little tougher sell.    at this point I never heard anything about guns being pointed at people, so even if he had a gun, proving that would be likely close to impossible, and even if you could prove it, how is it related to the original charge of dangerous driving (or whatever the local name for that charge would happen to be)

that said, it is very possible that the details of this have not all come available and some of the details we have heard may or may not be accurate, so its all speculation at this point.

However most people who flee the scene of an accident do so because of a couple reasons:

    1)  they are impaired, and dont want a DUI

    2) they have some other unlawful activity they are hiding.

in your case you say he had a gun.   maybe he did, maybe he didnt.   maybe he had drugs of some sort too.

    purely speculative.

but the main thing is because he left the scene, it makes a person wonder if there was another reason why he fled the scene of the accident.

personally my bet is that he had consumed some alcohol.   maybe not excessive amounts, but enough to not pass a test.

  5. it is also worth noting that he may never be the same after the injury.   he had an ACL and LCL tear (grade 3) in the same leg ad the achilles injury.

so there is a real possibility that he may never be 100% right after this.

of course he will rehab and try to come back and start, but we need to be prepared for the possibility he might be a career backup or that his career may be finished.

I'm a huge Dobbins fan but his visit with the Chargers didn't go so well. He's certainly worth a camp spot to see what he's got.

well, for this type of injury, most times a player will pass a physical less than 12 months after the surgery.   but it can take longer to get to a point where they need to be to be productive.

There have been notable exceptions to this so its not a hard and fast rule.

as of now, hes less than 12 months from injury (not sure how quick the surgery was after the injury)

to that end, I'd be surprised if he was given anything other than a backup role to start.   he can rehab further during the season and maybe be part of a committee once he is healthy enough to be productive.

of course he will want to start, so there may be a period of time where he sits until he adjusts his expectations

Word is he had a gun too.

That's perfectly fine in itself, but in Texas while committing a felony, it's sentence enhancer.

So if he's street racing, while drunk, with a gun, not difficult to see why he fled the scene

how does the gun affect anything?   unless he actually was using it or pointing it at people?

Maybe in the eyes of the law that doesnt mattter.

    :dunno:

That wont happen.    This sort of thing usually only happens when the infraction results in the death or injury of somebody.

at the end of the day hes a kid who was thrown a whole lot of money and he got himself a fast car.   I'd by lying if I said I'd never raced a car or did anything stupid that way.   but I lived in a small town, so you could go out and do this sort of thing on a country road.

cops usually let it go as long as thats the only place you did it.   You start doing that sort of thing in town then the cops started looking for you.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From the article that I read, every weakness contradicts every strength that you have. There's so many different takes on this guy. The tape does show his rawness at times, especially if not given time.

    Weaknesses

    • Struggles with the chess match against pressure looks.
    • Inefficient throwing motion creates inconsistencies in accuracy.
    • Receivers had to chase too many intermediate throws into the turf.
    • Leaves the ball behind crossing routes and RPO targets.
    • Can get uncomfortable when initial reads aren’t clear and clean.
    • Sixteen career interceptions were mostly earned with poor decisions or throws.

Yeah, thats why I figured this one would be an interesting one to look into myself.

when you have 2 reports that differ by so much, you come to realize that this is the type of player where the scouts are all over the place on them.

High ceiling, low floor.    This is probably what you are getting.    Probably should be going late first but probably is a top 10 pick (maybe top 5) because of that high ceiling

  10. the scouting report I am looking at is comparing him to Herbert

    though maybe its stylistic  only.....

    heres how it reads

    Strengths:

    • Easy touch thrower who can change his speeds and trajectories with the control of an NFL veteran.
    • capable scrambler with enough athleticism to get away from defensive linemen
    • smooth and consistent release helps to maintain his ball placement which give his receivers a runway after the catch.
    • quick decision maker who wont hesitate when he sees an opening.
    • eyes stay downfield and keep searching when plays break down
    • Natural on the move thrower who wont lose accuracy when forced to leave the platform
    • deep bal touch is excellent for a redshirt sophomore who lost his top receiving target in Josh Downs.
    • feels pressure and adapts quickly within the pocket

    Weaknesses

    • Lacks any real elite traits that will elevate his game despite being well rounded as a player.
    • arm talent is adequate but not out of the ordinary for an NFL starter
    • release can be a bit winding when he is forced out of normal rhythm.
    • arm adjustability is still a work in progress and he will sail some passes when adjusting for pressure at the line as he drifted and threw off his back foot when pressure broke through against him

I still have to look at the tape and I will admit this mag (which I normally dont buy but was in an airport waiting for a flight, so I took what I could get) isnt always on the mark with the scouting reports.    they are hit or miss at times.

but if this report is to be believed I'd say he would thrive in a situation where he had a good O line.

I thought taking off from a accident would be costly to those that left.  I guess they can’t prove it was you would be the benefit.

where I live, the penalty of leaving the scene of an accident is about the same as the penalty for a DUI.    this was done I suspect to keep people from leaving the scene of an accident.

though I still think that the stigma of the DUI is worse than the stigma of leaving the scene of an accident even if the penalty is the same.   with the latter you could always claim you panicked or got scared or something.   the former, you were an idiot after having some drinks and decided to drive.

    To leave the scene?

maybe not the best case scenario in real life, but leaving the scene of the accident likely doesnt get him suspended.  he could play dumb and say he was scared of cops or something.    but the reality is a DUI in that scenario does likely get him some form of suspension.

Leaving the scene?    maybe a fine?    I dont really anticipate a suspension from that though someone here may know better than I do on the matter.

Just spit balling here.  If you're the Patriots and have a LOT of needs on the line and in the skill positions.... is it worth trading down from #3 to get the Vikings 2 firsts and more picks next year?  At pick #11, they're not going to get Williams, Maye, or Daniels... but McCarthy may fall to them.  From all accounts, it sounds like Tennessee is going to stick with Levis, and I don't really know who else in the top 11... AZ (Murray), NYG (Jones), LAC (Herbert), ATL (Cousins), CHI (Williams), and NYJ (Rodgers), would want to take a QB.  I guess the Broncos or Raiders could be interested in trading up in front of NE (if they trade down to 11), I don't know.

It would make sense for the Jets to grab a QB given Rodgers age, but I think there is a fair chance Rodgers has a freakout if thats the way it goes down.

so maybe they draft a player for the O line or D line or just an immediate impact player  for elsewhere in the lineup.

It's nearly impossible to win in the NFL with a trash OL, the teams with high picks usually have a trash OL.

    agreed.

and so many of those teams fail to develop their high QB draft picks because the line isnt good.   its a major hindrance to developing a QB as a player at the NFL level

If I were in charge, I'd trade away good players elsewhere to shore up the line before drafting my new QB.    it only makes sense if investing that much draft capital in one player, maybe giving that player some protection so he doesnt take too many hits would be a good investment.

but so many teams decide they dont need it.   in the last few years teams have gone for the running QB because the players legs will cover up faults in the line to some degree.   its a lazy way to develop.   You still need a good line if you have a running QB.

  15. 1 hour ago, polecatt said:

I don't think any of these QBs will excel as a rookie in New England considering they don't have any good skill position players or an OL.

    That is an issue.

Im a big fan of giving a rookie QB a solid line to play behind.   if the line is THAT bad, then the rookie should red shirt a year unless the rookie is so good he can overcome.

given that there are lots of vets who would struggle to overcome a bad line I'd say its a fair bet that this is what they need to do if they draft Maye.

of course there is always pressure from the fans to get the rookie in the game, but I actually see value in sitting the rookie for a year if they are able.

It’s hard to imagine that Dobbins is going to be productive, and His Dobbins due back by the start of the season, does anyone know? I haven’t read any reports about him.

an achillies is plenty to concern yourself with.

even if they announce hes the starter, I dont know that I blow an early pick on the guy.   I just cant justify it given the injury history.

if hes available late in the draft that's where I'll bite because the potential return at that point justifies the cost.    Ideally last or second last round of the draft.   maybe a round or two earlier if they actually name him as the starter.

Yeah, his career so far doesn't suggest that he's a bellcow RB and trust me he won't be in L.A. I guarantee you that the Chargers will draft a RB in the 3rd or 4th round. There's some decent ones in the draft. Pretty sure we won't see one go in the 1st round so the Chargers will have the opportunity to grab one. I could be wrong but Edward's will not get bellcow carries.

no.  I suspect this may be a committee.

    Gus the Bus-short yardage

Dobbins(if they sign him) and unamed draftee likely split the rest.

there may even be one more RB that they may draft or sign as Dobbins health may not be where it needs to be in week 1.

I wouldn’t call it disappearing, I would call it nothing to do. Keepers, Dynasty leagues take up more time, but that’s not for many, it’s like playing house.  Imo.

I'm not saying theres not a reason for the disappearance.   you're right.  nothing to do.   so why waste your time.   most people will worry about next years draft next year.

thats all there is to it.   but they are still mostly gone this time of year.

  19. I think there is an accuracy issue with his throwing at times.   he looks like he sails a lot of throws.   some when under pressure, but some when throwing  normally.   interestingly enough the one scouting report suggests hes further along in his ability to throw the ball than Lamar was at this point in his career.   I find that a bit surprising but I have heard Lamar came a long way to get to where he is.  maybe I just didnt realize it.

  20. looking at the tape.  its interesting that all the bad examples of decision making are cases where he ran the ball (or tried to escape a sack)and took a big hit.  This is coachable.

interestingly enough, none of the bad decision making was as a result of throws.

though I'm sure there has to be at least one good example of where he made a dumb decision throwing the ball.

I easily get confused when discussing fantasy values, etc. I'm in a few Dynasty Leagues and our seasons never end, that's where my mind always goes 😊.

I'll do a few redraft leagues but I prefer the roster building of Dynasty.

I have found the people who stay and participate in the offseason are usually in a keeper/dynasty league.

the redrafters usually disappear until after the NFL draft, then they disappear again and come back when the exhibition season starts (spring training for the keeners)
