Nabers at 4.10 is an absolute steal. Round 3 is probably more than sufficient discount for a player with the talent level to challenge for #1 WR overall - maybe different if he was already confirmed to begin the season on PUP, but latest reports I see are that he is expected to be ready for week 1. I see much more risk/uncertainty for the less talented R. Rice.
-
As others mentioned - something is wrong with this dude. He's basically torpedoing any value another team would see in him. I wouldn't be surprised to see a team give him a shot when the 49ers finally let him go, because he did flash some talent, but it would be shocking to see any team offer him anything more than a league minimum tryout.
-
Yes, but the Patriots have seen him up close for two years (and stats probably don't tell the whole story). If they can sell him as a WR3 with WR2 upside, but know that he will only fit the Patriots as a disgruntled WR4 or WR5, they shouldn't be overly concerned with dealing him within the conference or even the division (it's good to dump a problem-child on your opponents). All of the Pats off-season moves suggest that they don't see Boutte as a key contributor, though the strategy may have been to test how he reacts to having some stronger competition - a test he appears to have failed so far.
-
And yet, you wish you weren't professional. I get it.
-
Exactly - what you said earlier is that you didn't because it could come back and bite you in the ass. But, if you didn't have those consequences you would. I think that is exactly Pelley's position - in fact he may be better off having done it (as someone else suggested, he's probably got a lot of support from others who were fired and couldn't afford to take such action). I think we agree.
-
I think it depends on if they could see him being their #3 WR. If the Pats do not see him as anything more than a WR4 or 5 (or potentially not even making the team) they should be happy to take whatever anyone is offering (especially if they expect him to be disgruntled in that role).
-
Exactly. It's not a question of right or wrong or even being "unprofessional". Arguably, it is even more "unprofessional" to bring in incompetent/inexperienced management and not calling that out if could be considered unprofessional (as you note, it eventually tanked the company) For most it is not worth the risk, but for public figures like Pelley, it really doesn't make a difference
-
There is no "should". Pelley is a public figure. There was no way he leaves CBS quietly and anonymously and how he chooses to leave makes no difference to me. Seriously, you need to consider context. I was trying to leave politics out of this but clearly you think Pelley was wrong to do what he did because of his politics. If a MAGA-leaning reporter told off their new liberal/woke management on their way out the door, I'm sure you'd be fine with it.
-
Scott Pelley will be happy to learn that if he becomes your boss, you'll be a good soldier make-no-waves yes man.
-
You can disagree, but don't be ridiculous. Telling off your idiot boss is not comparable to committing a crime.
-
Think of it this way. What if Pelley was suddenly put in place as your boss. I’d guess he has zero qualifications to be your boss and would take your business in a direction you don’t agree with. In that case, you are fully justified in telling him off however you want so long as you are willing to accept the consequences.
-
Putting aside the political stuff, I'm assuming that Pelley thought his new boss was inexperienced, incompetent and in over his head. In such a case, Pelley's actions are likely justified - not a good idea if he was living pay-check-to-pay-check, but probably not the case with Pelley. I'm sure he expected the result and will land on his feet.
-
I saw it was the veteran minimum with no guarantees (same as the other vets the Giants signed) so no financial obligation unless he actually makes the 53-man roster. I'm guessing that this means they don't expect much from Nabers during camp and wanted some camp bodies to provide competition and a wider pool to select from if Nabers isn't ready for week 1. Doesn't seem like Odell will get any preferential treatment - he's simply given an opportunity to make the team if he proves to be one of their top 5 or 6 WRs. If he won't be playing on special teams he'll probably need to prove he is one of the top 3 or 4.
-
Latest reports I've seen indicate it will be a 2028 first rounder instead of a 2027 first rounder. I still think the Pats could have pressed for a second round pick - I think the Eagles were desperate sellers. Perhaps the Pats view a 2028 first rounder to be the equivalent of a 2027 second rounder (but it is a long way off to be projecting draft strength with any accuracy).
-
Not sure I can see 13 RBs I'd clearly rather have over Walker. There are about 14 million reasons why he will be given every opportunity to be the man in KC. Injury is always a risk, but I don't think he is more injury prone than any other RB.
-
Of course, there should be more news/updates throughout training camp, but at this point anybody who can snag Nabers in the 3rd is getting a steal. There is always some risk coming back from injury, but really every player is at risk of getting injured at any time. As a rookie, Nabers was essentially a WR1 with crap at QB on a bad team. Assuming he's healthy, his 2024 stats would be a likely floor.

Wrasslin' Draft Voting - Vote for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
Showboat replied to BiffTannen's topic in The Geek Club
My vote got screwed up and I can't seem to change it. Meant to be: 1: BHB 2: Kopy 3: Biff Looks like Biff got recorded as 1st and 3rd in my vote. -
Edward Reed and DeAngelo Montgomery

lol. The Sodbuster is really the only one on my list in that category, but I did qualify that selection. At that time the TV studio matches were usually pretty lame with a bigger name against a jobber, but I think the WWF had already started poaching the AWA talent and they were trying to drum up interest. He got teamed with the Baron who went berserk and ended up a bloody mess.
-
Disappointed that the following were not taken (I warned you of my old AWA bias): East-West Connection (Ventura & Adonis) Far East-West Connection (Ventura & Saito) Baron Von Rashke Kenny “Sodbuster” Jay (only because he was part of the greatest TV studio match ever) The High Flyers (or Criers) (Brunzell & Gagne) Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissy Jerry Blackwell Ken Patera The Crusher Ray "the Crippler" Stevens Mad Dog Vachon A note on Sgt. Slaughter, he also wrestled as the masked Super Destroyer Mark II in the AWA.
-
Verne arguably should have been taken earlier, but as a wrestler he was not flashy. He really made his mark as a promoter/trainer building the AWA into probably the most successful of the "territories". He was probably a bit too stubborn/egotistical for his own good (holding the title way too long, and not cutting a deal with the WWF when the writing was on the wall).
-
Were they actually a TT outside of that one event? If going for one-offs I'd rather see Mean Gene + Hulk or even Andre + Hulk (as I recall, they teamed up at least once in the Hulk's early days when he was routinely taking on two at a time and the "promoters" wouldn't let him take take on three without a partner and the bombshell was that Andre would be his partner).
-
Was waiting for Jesse to fall, but wasn't on my radar in the M/P/A category. Really only knew him as a TT partner (and governor) though I'm sure he must have done some singles wrestling. Will be interesting to see if he gets drafted again under the other categories.
