What, you always go best-player available every pick? No game-plan reguarding starting roster?
TIERING, Thats cool.... but I think it has flaws & can get you in just as much trouble as my scripted technique, maybe more.
My first couple picks are always best available players picking between RB's and Wr's, unless Manning falls, then he figures into the equation. I have won the league once, been to the playoffs every year except last year, and I still had a good team last year with James, Anderson, Parker, Chris Brown, Chad Johnson, Andre Johnson, Kennison, and Trent Green, etc, etc. How the hell didn't I make the playoffs with that squad is my question???? I blame Green and Andre, they suck.
Last year order was like:
James
CJ
AJ - To kill list
Chris Brown
Mike Anderson
Green - To Kill list
Kennison
etc,
etc.
I took best available through rounds 1-3, then started taking what i needed to fill out my roster after.

I'm in a 14 team league, so I like to see examples, but K. Jones before Manning, come on guys.

Isn't that like going to the NBA and not being able to make a jump shot? You'd think after playing football for your whole life you'd be able to catch a pass. Blocking I can understand because that is mental and related to learning, but dang, he can play catch with me if he wants, i have a pretty good gun.

I have bumped CJ down out of the top 6 and I would take Ward, Boldin, before him too right now. Who is the fricken backup in Cincy and what can we expect from Houshmandzadeh being a #2 with a crappy qb in place?
Plus if he reinjured his knee, what happens then? Is CJ and Housh too much of a risk at this point?

My point with Sammy Parker was he's listed on the projections, as one example who I thought Burleson would have a better year then. Since we are commenting on the FFtoday projections.
If Burelson stays at the #3 reciever, ok, then 6-8 is way to high for him, but I just can't believe he won't take away Engrams spot, new fat contract and all.
So maybe I answered my own question. If he does take Bobby's spot, then I guess they would move him to the big board.
My point with Stallworth wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, i just hate it when all the "Geeks" just start spewing, "He sucks, no talent, I wouldn't even draft him" etc, etc. Same thing happened with Donte was the point I was trying to make. Not trying to brag and say I'm the FF Guru or anything, I've blown many picks, *cough, chris brown, cough*

14 teams has to be the max, and even then it's a pain. It makes it very difficult to draft by value once you get larger then 12 teams. If you draft by value you end up with brutal #2 RB's. And by the end of the 5th round, every fricken RB is gone, except for the Verron Haynes and LaBrandon Toefield's of the world.

Ha! Burleson sucks. I have him ranked like 200 something.
I thought that Donte Stallworth was worth drafting last year, everyone on this board told me the guys sucks, probably won't even start anymore, he's a bum, etc, etc.
Hasselbeck is projected to throw 25+ TD's this year, I assume Burelson could grab 6-8 of them. Jackson 8-10, Burleson 6-8, Stevens 4-6, Engram 4-5. Someone has to catch them. I assume the guy they paid 40 mill to is gonna get his opportunity.
And do you really think Sammy Parker for example is gonna have a better year then Nate?? Come on.

Round 3: Stud WR
Round 4 : Parker/Dunn
Works for me.
As of right now, they are the same exact player, but Willie has the potential to be better.

Ok here's my case:
I think Shanny is being truthful who his #1 and #2 RB's are right now. He likes Tatum getting the 10-15 carries of breakaway speed, and then the grinder to do the rest.
Worst case (and I think this is a guaranteed with Denver): Dayne is the goalline back, gets 10-12 carries a game, and gets 6-9 TD's this year. The TD's will happen, I'm not really worried about it. (I took Mike Anderson in the 4th or 5th round last year, everyone laughed.)
Best case: He can handle a 20 carry a game load and will get around 1100 and 10-12 TD's.
If he fails at Denver, he has to be considered the worst RB in NFL history, but I don't think Shanny is wrong.

In a TD heavier league format, I have to take Larry. In the red zone, do you look for the guy that has hands like Chris Carter? That would be an affirmative.
And who cares, both of these guys are gone in the 2nd and 3rd round anyway.

I would think Nate Burelson would be on the big board instead of some of the scrubs at the bottom of the WR's rankings.

I think he can get Robert Smith type numbers, 1200ish, around 6 TD's. But he'll be the 69 yards one week, 139 next with a 60 yard td run. Can you live with that is the question.

there are some pretty ugly prospects here:
bulger: yds in bunches but a td wimp (21/21/14)--->no
hasselbeck: did it 1 time in like 5 yrs (barely with a 26); SA keeps racking up 20+tds--->no
warner: has hit stratospheric totals before, but long ago; health rating of like 25/100--->no
culpepper: health? no moss (looked ugly last yr)? new team? despite these, saban is good, and he looks ready--->yes
tgreen: another yardage hog, but hit 25+ twice (barely); herm coaching + lj looks poised to beat SA's td mark--->no
vick: miracle if he throws 25tds; then again, if he has to do so, their run game must be shot---->no
brees: has the tools/weapons, polish, and poise; health?---->yes
plummer: hit 20+ only 1 time in 10yrs!!---->no
favre: he didnt come back not to get his 24tds for the record (even if it means 50ints)---->yes
abrooks: collins threw 20 with broken o-line and broken moss; abrooks has legs to buy time; shell/slater will juice o-line---->yes
roth: he can do so (see vick), but not sure if they are a good team if he is doing so---->no
brunell: saunders will favor run; team approach favors defense/run; posted 20+ like 2 out of 12yrs---->no
carr: owners should be happy with higher teens---->no
Can only argue with two of them: Culpepper: new team, won't play 16 games, I just can't see him putting stats like that. Brees: I have less of a problem with Brees, yet his health and arm strength after injury have to a a concern, plus it's New Orleans for cripes sake, where careers go to die.

I think you guys are being a little snobby. I think the mags are great reference material. Of course I have my own rankings laid out before I draft but sometimes I need to hop back to the mag not for ranking purposes but maybe looking at players histories, etc when trying to break a tie for example. I understand if it's your ONLY thing you use to draft, then that's crazy.

You guys crack me up, making this too hard.
I think we most agree that he's not a top ten RB in the draft. He's in the Droughns, J. Lewis, J.Jones, McGahee, etc, etc; RB's that have alot of questions about their situation, or talent, or RBBC or all of the above.
For me, I'm in a 14 team league. No way this guy makes it out of the 3rd round as of right now. He could be an end of 2nd round guy in a 14 team league, matching him up with a Alexander, Tomlinson, etc.
Logically he is what is left after all the top RB's are gone, then the first tier of WR's are gone, plus Manning, it's gonna come down, do I want Droughns, Taylor, Dillon, Jones, etc, etc.
At that point, he is neither overvalued or undevalued, he was taken where he should be. You just hope you guessed correctly out of the RB's left.
***As far as goalline vulture goes, I'm from Minnesota and doubt very much that Fason is even a consideration. He's last administrations guy, Childress and the Triangle of Authority went after Chester and they envision single back system, no RBBC. This is Chesters job to lose.***

Chester - He was the man Childress went after in the offseason. Fason's role was from another coaching staff, that does not translate into this season. Mewelde has been dinged up his whole career so far, and though talented my stay at PR and may take on KR depending how Childress goes. It comes down to Taylor was Childress' man and will get the bulk of the carries and will run behind Mckinney, Hutch, and Birk. That's enough for me to be confident in this guy as a very solid #2 RB.
McGahee - Dude has straight up talent, and still gained 1300 yards last year, though TD production was down quite a bit. If you can team him up with another solid RB in the end of the first beginning of second, it's not a bad one-two punch.
Droughns - Tons of yards no TD's, yes we are all aware. But is it: he is unable to score or lack of opportunities? And it's not like people are taking this guy as their #1 rb. Sometimes your hand gets delt and you have to take him in the 3rd, so be it.

I disagree, but to each his own. Every year there are guys who come off the waiver wire and deliver.
Of course you can make it up, but you shouldn't be put at such a disadvantage from the get go.

Here's a better way to pose this question: go up to someone in the draft and say, "Hey, you want to trade your #1, #14, #27 for my #11, #24, #25?" Guy would laugh at you then kick you in the nuts.

It really depends year to year.
Obviously being in the top tier of draft picks on a given year gives you an large advantage, so that is choice #1. This year is LJ, SA, LT, Manning, Portis, and since most are affraid of QB's early, that makes 4 "sure things", and Portis is debatable too.
Usually if I'm not in the primo top tier then slap me in the 12 spot to get the wrap around picks. But not this year. Too many RBBC's and unsettled RB's this year, it's fricken horrible. Julius Jones (who knows), Dom Davis (who knows), McGahee (who knows), J. Lewis (no idea), etc, etc, etc.
So I guess for me this year, stick me in the middle of the draft if i don't get a top 4 and I'll grab a Lamont, and I'll be happy. The backend of the draft just seems to be filled with too many questions.

I don't like it one bit. If you pick 6 or worse, bring an enema to the draft to clean out what just happened to you.
Check out the SB winners and runners-up the last few years and I bet you will find that the vast majority come from those with top picks.
I agree with you a 100%, but even the standings wouldn't tell you anything because people can draft poorly or injuries crushed some teams. Both are irrelevant. This draft is inherently unfair, and I have no idea really how he can justify it.
Normal draft means: #1 + #24 + #25 + #48 is fairly equal to #12 + #13 +#36 + #37
then
His example: (1st pick) #1 + #14 + #27 +#40 is better then (11th pick) #11 + #24 + #25 +#38

#1 gets two top 14 guys, the #1 player and #14 player.
#11 gets shafted. The #11 player and the #24 player.
I don't care that #11 gets #25, players values even out past two rounds more or less.
#1 can get a combo of LJ and the top WR or a runningback of Ronnie, Caddy, Davis, Jones, McGahee ilk, or god forbid everyone passes on Manning and he lines up Manning and LJ, have fun with that.
So i guess I think it's a "no" vote for me. In the end I think auctions are better but takes much more research and skill which most people don't have, so thus we all go with 1-12,12-1 method.

Harrison is still the safest WR bet in the league. Guaranteed 1100 yards and 10-12 td's, with some upside potential.
Next safest I would say Steve Smith thanks to consistancy with the QB position but he has potentional to do more then Harrison, but also could do less if defenses don't have to watch KJ too much and roll eveything his way.
The most potential is Owens. He is the #1 talent between these three, and could turn in a 17 TD season if healthy and the ego doesn't get in the way. Bledsoe is the type of QB who can get him the ball where he likes. Plus it's year one for TO so he'll be on his best behavior.
I would take them Harrison first, Owens second, Smith third factoring in: potential, upside, downside, consistancy, and situation.
Fitzgerald is great, but one sprained thumb away by Warner and you get the rook in there, who I like but it would take a while to get up to speed with the offense. C. Johnson, could lose 1/4 of a season with Carson's status. Holt has never been a big TD producer, so count him out. Moss' hammies might cost him the later half of his career, so buyer beware.
In a 12-14 team draft i wouldn't touch a WR until LJ, SA, LT, EDGE, Portis, Barber, Manning, Jordan, Jackson are off the board at a minimum. Wait till 10-14 and take one of those 3, then team up with a Brown, Caddy, McGahee and hope they have big years.

In most leagues, I would imagine these guys will be alot of teams number one's. Maybe not keepers leagues but everyone else.
As far as players go, Chambers is better, and he's delt with crappy QB's most of his career so I don't think his production could ever fall.
