  3. It gave a nice little fight. Used a 4 wt. Allen with my grandfather's Horrock-Ibbotsen reel, which I recently restored. What a beautiful little fish.
  4. Gutter...if you ever want to try fly fishing the northwestern part of the state, you know where I am. I even have extra gear...all you need is a license as the waters I fish are conservations zones that are patrolled by fish and game regularly.
  5. I fish for panfish and smallmouth in the summer when waters are too warm to fish for trout. Fortunately, with the cool weather this summer, that is not been that often.

    My onions are re-growing

My cukes are in a raised cart that I built. It has two compartments that hold about 6 cubic feet of soil each. I plant 2 cuke plants in each bed along with parsley and basil, which are "friendly" to the cuke plants. I built a trellis of sorts which goes up about 6 feet above the soil surface, constructed of wood with a retired fly line making a mesh that the cuke vines can climb.

    My onions are re-growing

I planted some onions in the spring, they grew quite a bit and the seemingly died. However, in the cooler weather, they have started to re-grow. Anyone else?

    My onions are re-growing

It's a raised bed, and a little dog. It's unlikely that the urine is getting there in any significant quantity.
  9. Looks like only 2 days of fly fishing this weekend as the weather forecast has deteriorated, with hotter temps arriving Sunday rather than Monday. Barring unusual circumstance, I will be getting my September trout, which is good.

    My onions are re-growing

Hey gutter. I have 2 tomato plants and 4 cucumber plants. The tomato plants frankly do not produce enough for us, but the cukes are overwhelmingly productive. 2 seems to be the magic number for tomato plants, though. It seems that any time I plant more than that, the deer invade. I plant peppers around the 2 tomato plants, and have my dog piss in the area in front of the garden and the deer seem to stay away.

    My onions are re-growing

I am quite sure that you are all eager for an onion update. I harvested most of my onions last year, and the few that regrew are rather disappointing. The whole experience of onion growing has lost its lustre. I will be buying Vidalias going forward. The garlic crop this year was also a little light, but I am not ready to give up on them, and will replant in the next few days. I had an outstanding year with tomatoes, several varieties of peppers, kirby cucumbers, eggplant, asparagus and just about every herb you could imagine. I have made about 8 batches of refrigerator pickles since early July. In terms of herbs, I have bumper crops of rosemary, sage (3 varieties), thyme, lemon thyme, curly parsley, Italian parsley, sweet basil, globe basil, cilantro, tarragon, Mexican tarragon, oregano (perrenial), and mint. It's awesome, right?
  14. I will update in the other thread.
  15. Frankly, the 26-incher was a pretty dull catch. It was in slow water and the fish was pretty sluggish. The best fighters are in the faster water. I think the last time a fished from a boat was 1994. Over the past 3 years, I have waded in water varying in temp from 32.5 to 70 degrees.
  16. Update: I have caught at least one trout on the fly in NJ every month for the last 36 months. I am thankful for good health and the opportunity to continue to enjoy the beautiful places that I have fished for the last 3 years plus. My guess is that I've caught and released somewhere in the neighborhood of 800-1,000 trout since this journey began. The majority have been rainbow trout, but I am now catching more brook trout and brown trout as I explore some new water where wild trout reproduce and flourish. The largest has been 26 inches. The smallest fit in the palm of my hand. Most of the fish range from 8 to 14 inches. Although I have no way to truly know, I believe that every trout I have caught has survived being caught and released as I have never had a "bleeder". And, I have met some really interesting people on the stream along the way. With a cooling trend this upcoming week, the fishing Labor Day weekend should be really great. My wife will be away, and all 3 kids are either moved out or in college. Good times, tight lines.

What concerts do you most regret not attending?

The ones I regret were not-so-much concerts, but small venue shows. I also turned down Steely Dan in a small club in NYC in the early 2000's. The other one I regret is turning down seeing Susan Tedeschi in a small venue right after Just Won't Burn came out. I was at a bar in New Orleans about 10 years ago, and left to meet a consultant for a drink at another bar. When I returned to the original bar 45 minutes later, I learned that Billy Joel had joined the house band on keyboards for a few songs and then walked out. Not a lot of regrets otherwise.

Tough to say what is "underrated" as I think some of these are pretty well known, but I will go with: What About Bob? Top Secret Euro Trip An American Werewolf in London (Dark Comedy, admittedly) The Muppets (2011 version)

I knew that they had gotten married years ago, but pretty much assumed they had divorced, like many Hollywood couples.
