My mom was a terrible cook, so any strangely green, drastically over-cooked vegetable or greyish meat takes me back to the good ole days.

I don't know you.

So, I caught a native brookie on a black midge yesterday

Had a couple over for dinner tonight and he wants to fish tomorrow. I am not thrilled but he is showing up at 7 a.m. tomorrow. Midges, let's go. -
Where do you live? Delivery may be pricey given all of the supply chain issues.

My daughter needs a place in NYC for 3 months
fricker66 replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
I havent been here in about 6 months. Came over this morning and saw this thread. There are a lot of a good suggestions here (and a few that are less good). You may have already found this out, but Hoboken is just as pricey as NY at this point and sublets are not so easy to find. You seem to have hit the correct focus area searching around for sublets. I'll check back in over the next few days to see how it's going. My son just took a job in NYC after graduation. He plans to live at home for at least 6 months to get his bank account into shape, but he will likely be going through a similar exercise later this year or next. -

Chiming in late on this thread. This is a decent neighborhood and very close to the subway and Central Park access. Riverside Park is also just a few blocks away. -
N.J. plastic bag ban: Even paper bags not allowed at grocery stores. Here’s what you need to know.
fricker66 replied to Utilit99's topic in The Geek Club
I applaud the bag ban. I now carry re-usable grocery bags in my car. Whenever I go to a food store, I simply grab whatever bags I need from the back of the car. The one thing that the stores need to better address is self-checkout. When you use self-checkout and you start bagging, the system shuts down with the "unexpected item in the bagging area" announcement as soon as you set your reusable bag in the bagging area. Then a store employee needs to reset for you. There is a small "use your own bag" button at some stores, but there is no instruction to users to hit that button BEFORE you do anything. -

Opening day of trout season is today, but rivers are all running at or above flood stage due to rains this week. I am not willing to risk my life for an opening day catch, so I will wait a few more days. I have already caught trout on the fly in the first 3 months of the year (after going 12-for-12 in 2021). It seems the gold ribbed hares ears were working just before the flooding started. I figure that I am still about a month out from when dry flies will be eaten on the regular. Water temp is still below 50, so it's a bit early for dries. -

Enjoy. Hopefully, the water from this nor'easter will recede by then. -
If you could only listen to 5 bands the rest of your life--who?
fricker66 replied to supermike80's topic in The Geek Club
Yes, I liked that pick. I am also surprised at the lack of female voices among the posts. I would get really tired of hearing dudes over and over and over. -
Yes, no seeds or nuts for 3 days prior to the procedure. Only Tylenol as OTC pain killer 5 days prior to procedure.

Tough Question. There would be a need for variety of musical styles, a large catalog, as well as the ability to do a variety of covers. Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five Susan Tedeschi/Tedeschi-Trucks band John Mayer Trio Jackson Browne The Commodores (because we all need some funk) -

I am 10-for-10 in the monthly trout quest. I know you are all on the edge of your seats to see what will happen in November and December. I treated myself to a new custom fly rod. -
The prep is what it is. You can count on being on the toilet for a few hours. It's like eating bad clams. I am up for my 5-year in early December. This time, my doc changed his prep rules. He has rules that go back almost a week. Then nothing but liquids the full day before followed by the colon cleanse.

Her basketball videos are amazing. Seriously, she has some game.

I think national exposure/major market is an "or" thing rather than an "and" thing. Bama will be fine so long as it can keep its brand going when Saban leaves. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for schools like Texas, USC, ND, Miami and Penn State to even the recruiting divide between themselves and the SEC.

On the pro side, most of the young guys are pretty boring when interviewed. It is golf, after all. And if you match up a 22 year old pro with a 35 year old QB, there is a bit of a generational gap that becomes an issue. The young guy may not be willing to needle the older superstar from another sport. So, I'm not sure who you would get. I like the suggestion of Rahm -- he's kind of an old soul. If Justin Thomas wasn't outed as a homophobe, he probably would have been a good choice, but he's not going to get that kind of slot any time soon. Ricky is actually kind of boring. Morikawa seems to have a little personality, but might be just a little too nice and not yet a big enough name. We need a Lee Trevino on the current tour. He would have been outstanding for an event like this.

Many schools have been preparing for this for several years. ND apparently has created roles within the Athletic Department largely focused on branding and image for individual players. It is a very smart approach. The schools that can show that they are helping players maximize their financial opportunities will win the recruiting wars. I would not be surprised to see some new recruiting leaders emerge because of their ability to help their athletes profit.

**2021 British Open (Open Championship) Thread**

I don't trust him in the majors. Discounting years before 2015 (missed cut in his first 3 Opens as a young pro), he has played in 22 majors and has missed the cut 9 times, including all 3 in 2020. Admittedly, he has 5 top 10 finishes in those cuts that he made, but he has been mediocre in the last two majors, finishing 38th at the PGA and missing the cut at Torrey Pines this year. He also missed the cut at The Players this year. By the way, if you haven't done so, you can go to PGATour.com and see all of the stats for every golfer. Pretty cool stuff. Hatton's is here: https://www.pgatour.com/players/player.34363.tyrrell-hatton.html -
I don't think I have ever been to a "fancy" steakhouse where I was paying the tab. I have been to a lot of them on business. Steakhouses are not really my thing -- I'd much rather go to a good family-owned joint with a solid reputation.

It is a tip that you can make your own butter from heavy cream (and your own buttermilk -- a byproduct of the process) if you have a KitchenAid stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Making your own allows you to adjust the salt to your taste, but frankly, it's not worth the effort. But it is really cool to see the process work.

Cink and Hatton are the oddball picks there. Let's see if either makes the cut.
