  1. We need to get some traction if this league is going to continue.

We need to vote on rules, something that hasn't happened the last few years. Instead everyone shows up right before the draft and none of the proposed rule changes were ever really considered.

Lets even see if we should continue this league.

I made the poll public in case someone not in the league votes.

  2. The company I work for had 10% layoffs 2025, 25% in 2020, and 30% in 2015. At one point in 2015 me and one other person had an entire floor to ourselves.

Every time I knew it was coming.

50/50 we have a small reduction this year of 5-10% is my guess. Will know more soon based on global conditions.

Cool then you would agree that (1)halting pipelines,(2) increased regulations, (3)this passionate push from the left for green energy, etc are harmful to gas speculation and prices….

And your 50% numbers you’re going from is post Covid. He basically went back to the production that it was before Covid, but not quite to the extent because of the policies.
Can’t really make it sound like he was this big oil and let’s increase all these rigs. He used the reserves.

    1. The stopping of the keystone pipeline actually helped lower the price of gasoline in north-central US. The reason this is the case is because Canada wanted to sell their oil on the global market, the pipeline was to get the oil sands to gulf coast refineries where the majority of refined goods is exported to global markets. However, since they could not get their oil to global market they were actually forced to sell it more locally to northern US at suppressed prices.

    2. This seems like a talking point, I know Biden's administration banned some areas from drilling that would never have been drilled anyways. But there were no new regulations on the oil/gas industry that effected us the last 4 years.

    3. How would green energy hurt gas prices? Wouldn't it lower the price of gasoline.

If you keep supply the same and lower demand it decreases price. Adding green energy to the grid and having a percentage of the population that is able to switch to electric vehicles would be good for gasoline prices, however it would have opposite effect on electricity prices.

If you increase the demand of electricity by adding electric vehicles to the grid, then it would be upward pressure on electricity prices without adding additional electricity supply.

Sorry, going to have to get back to work. If you respond, I won't answer until much later today.

Event / Milestone Date Inflation Rate (CPI)
IRA Signed Into Law August 2022 8.3%
    3 Months Later November 2022 7.1%
    6 Months Later February 2023 6.0%
    1 Year Later August 2023 3.7%

I don't believe that chart without a link to a study by an economist from a reputable organization such as MIT, Princeton, etc.

Like I responded to cyclone, I don't believe the words that a poltician says and I don't trust random stats on the internet. Sorry.

This isn’t really all that difficult. Which party is drill, baby drill, and which one would like to see green energy, which would kill gasoline?

so a little hard to say because this is a very obvious answer to say one was helping oil when they in fact, we’re doing everything they could to kill it.

I don't believe the words out of politicians mouths, I look at their actions.

Please verify what happened to the inflation rate after the inflation reduction act was passed.

It went up, and economists directly tied some of the inflation directly to the inflation reduction act. However, this is not a topic that interests me like oil/gas prices. I don't want to research articles to find out exactly how much inflation was caused by the bill.

OK, OK stop. Again, this is pure revisionist history. I can’t fathom while you guys are even trying to make it sound like Biden was this pro gasoline get prices as low as they can president because he just wasn’t

He was canceling Keystone as soon as he got into office like the very first thing he possibly could do. He increased regulations which made it more difficult and put a pause on drilling on new land.

I don’t mind having rational discussions when they hit on things that are somewhat debatable, but we have to sit here and waste. Our time arguing that I ran was an actual threat to our country in our allies for the last 40 years and that Biden wasn’t pro-gasoline by any stretch of the imagination.

So who’s actually drinking the Kool-Aid here?

Keystone pipeline was incredibly unpopular amongst democrats, so Biden did play a part in killing that, however drilling did greatly expand while he was in office. To be fair he suffered from dementia, but his decision making process could be described as flip/flopping. When the public started crying about gas prices then drilling expanded greatly.

Hardly the policy of someone who was anti-oil.

  8. 2 minutes ago, cyclone24 said:

It’s hard to say he was blasted for gas prices when his entire policy form was to get rid of gas because that’s what your party wanted. EV mandates, emission mandates, increased regulations, were all things designed to push people to this Greene energy that your party wanted. So a little hard to say he was getting blasted for it.

If that was the policy of the administration, please explain why drilling rigs increased by 50% in US and why oil production went up as per my last 2 posts.

You have drank the kool-aid, years ago you used to be one of the handful of posters who could see topics from both sides and now you are full on propaganda and attacking any decision from the other side and defending the republicans like it is your sports team.

Of course, but I’m referring more globally as a philosophy. Biden‘s administration did all it could to kill it off, which certainly is not going to help prices go down.

That’s why I was saying it’s pretty rich for them now to complain about gas prices that are still far lower than when Biden left when it’s not something their party even wanted anyway

Oil production peaked in late 2023 and has remained steady since then. This is a lag from the drilling rig count because it takes a while from start of drilling until oil actually gets produced.

However, I expect another spike in domestic oil production/rig count because I would have to imagine all of our oil producers are salivating over 100+ dollars a bbl. There are profits to be made right now if they can ramp up production fast enough.

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 included two main provisions that directly or indirectly imposed new costs on the oil and gas sector, with potential (though limited) pass-through effects on gasoline prices:

    1. Reinstatement and Increase of the Hazardous Substance Superfund Excise Tax on Petroleum

This revived a long-expired excise tax on domestic crude oil received at U.S. refineries and on imported petroleum products.

Rate: 16.4 cents per barrel (indexed for inflation thereafter), effective January 1, 2023. (For context, the prior expired rate was 9.7 cents per barrel.)

    uh huh

Ok, you got me. There are 42 gallons in a barrel and he raised the tax on a barrel from 9.7 to 16.4, this is raising the fees on a gallon of oil a whole 1 and a half pennies.

I did not consider this, but does this really matter?

Edit, my math was bad. They raised the price on gallon of oil by .15 pennies. Not by a whole penny.

Biden was a terrible president, however the rig count increased 50% from the first 2 years of his term to the last 2 years. The government at that time was not trying to kill off domestic oil production.

His inflation reduction act, absolutely tacked on fees and or taxes to gas, and that is easily verified.

The inflation reduction act caused inflation ironically enough, however gasoline tax's/fees has remained the same since Clinton or Reagan or something like that.

    This is easily verified.

The Democrat party wants communism, it's clear as day.  At worst, they'll settle for the socialism in the short term.  This isn't even debateable... because we've seen the influx of "Democratic Socialists" being elected.  There's now a communist mayor in NYC.  You not seeing this and the pattern is concerning.  Simply, it used to only be Bernie Sanders who was the "Democratic Socialist", who championed the cause due to all the millionaires.  Well, that inspired the likes of AOC, Jeffries, and the rest of The Squad and boom, there's currently over 30 people in Congress that identify themselves as "Democratic Socialists".  Weird that Bernie, now that he's a millionaire, shifted the goal posts to billionaires, isn't it?

The Democrat party is clearly shifting to the far lest, as a whole, it's not just a small segment any more.  The DNC has made a full shift, the rank and file of it's membership is just catching up.

Interesting that you use Venezuela.  You know, the country where Communists (you see the commonality, right?), took down their political opponents to align with China?

I'm not the extremist at all, I think the Republican's suck too, the difference it that they're just simply untrustworthy aholes.  The Demcrat party, as it currently exists, is the worst political party that this planet has ever witnessed.  My stance is coming from the perspective of what the German people should've done, when they started to see the rise of the Third Reich.  End it, before it happens.  If I could go back in time and take out Hitler myself, before he became a figurehead, I'd do it.  That's not "extremeist", it's preventing evil from happening.  No different here.

People are free to be anti-Trump, I don't care about that... he's an ahole just like everyone else.  The issue that has turned me blind to anything that ANY Democrat has to complain about, was the Nazi and Hitler stuff.  It wasn't just at Trump, it was also people that voted for him... remember Joe Biden saying that white nationalists are the biggest threat to our country and conflated those people with MAGA and people who voted for Trump?  Yeah, fock him.  He's been a piece of garbage in our government for over 40 years.  He can go to heII... and so can the people who helped him get there.

One of the key aspects of democracy is that you respect your opponent and don't call for their exile/execution. Maybe you have spent too long in an echo chamber, it is important to actually get views from both sides.

One of the great things about this country is that historically it has not swung too extreme because when one side gained too much power then voters then switched and voted for the other side gained power and changed some of the recent changes the other side just made. This prevents the country from going too far extreme in one direction or the other.

Respect for people who have different political opinions and ability to compromise with them are key.

I think that Trump should just get the Justice Department to officially label the DNC as a terrorist organization.  Then, charge everyone who's a part of the DNC for treason.  Put them all in federal prison and tell them to prove they're not terrorists (by membership, they've already been proven guilty, as they are a part of the DNC).  When they can't, give them the option (because I'm a peaceful man), they can their punishment.  Either get the chair or be exiled to a country of their choosing.  I see no downside to ridding our country of elected officials are trying to turn this country into a communist country.

You used to be a normal dude. Now you are saying that you want all elected officials who have a different political opinion than you to be exiled or executed?

That is what leaders due in banana republic dictatorships like Venezuela.

What caused you to be such an extremist?

I think I've narrowed it down to the LG OLED C5 or the TCL QM8K. Any advise on these or others is appreciated.

I haven't seen the TCL operating system, but LG can be quite slow compared to my samsung TV.

I like having the TV respond quickly so i would recommend Samsung.  OLED also is not as bright as other technologies. Depending on your room OLED may not be the best choice.

    Here's a 65" SONY for $700 :dunno:

granted, I would probably spend more just because I think they last and it's worth it.  In 2009 we bought the house and I got a SONY flatscreen, 43" or something and it's no longer the primary TV but is hanging in my daughter's room and works great.  We're going on 17 years.  I bet if I still had my flastscreen from 1997 that was a tube tv with the 4" glass on the front that weighed 200 pounds it would still work the same as it did then if I turned it on :dunno:

Sony hasn't made it's own tv's in years. They re-sold LG or samsung panels, however they recently signed a joint venture with TCL and TCL will make all "Sony" tv's going forward.

  17. They still make waterbeds. Go retro!

The cheapest option from mattress firm works fine. You can by a split king that tilts up for pretty cheap. We were ~1000 dollars all in including both mattresses. I do have to sleep tilted up because of acid reflux. But you dont have to spend much money.

You're missing the point.  CA used to extract, refine and sell gasoline ALL within it's own borders.  Over the last couple of decades, and accelerating within the last 5-10 years especially on the refining side, CA has had to import more and more of it's gasoline due to it creating a hostile environment for fossil fuel companies.  The ENTIRE point of this thread is for the libs to explain to me HOW that stance is HELPING combat climate change.  So far they haven't been able to do so.

A decline in refining capacity has been happening in many states, this is not unique to California. Texas is an outlier in this regards as our refining capacity is up, probably to pick up the slack.

    All down:

    North Dakota: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_cap1_dcu_SND_a.htm

    Wyoming: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_cap1_dcu_SWY_a.htm

    Louisiana: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_cap1_dcu_SLA_a.htm

In addition many states import gasoline, for example Florida does not have a single refinery. There are certainly pro/con's when it comes to refineries, they are ugly, they pollute, and while the jobs are high paying, they come with risks. My kids have come to associate seeing the refineries as the signal that the drive to the beach is almost over. They will get happy when they see the refineries because they know they are almost there. Kind of sad if you put thought into it. Pristine beaches would be nice.

Closing refineries in California will certainly hurt this countries fuel supply. The two refineries that either recently shutdown or are do to shutdown this year in California provide 2% of the US refining capacity.

There is a reason we only do a tiny amount of rare earth processing in the US, it is a pollution heavy industry. I understand why Florida has never built any refineries. It would be kind of nice not living around this stuff.

  19. From my understanding it is all gulf coast refined gasoline. However, it is cheaper to send gasoline from Texas/Lousianna to Bahamas, then stage the gasoline in bahamas and then export the gasoline from bahamas to California because of the Jones act. I don't think Bahama's has any oil refineries and they definitely don't have a domestic oil industry.

The jones act states that any goods shipped from one US state to another have to be on US ships with US personnel. This is a loophole so that the shipping of gasoline can be done cheaper by foreign companies using cheap labor and poorly maintained boats.

Many states import gasoline from Texas/Louisiana, not sure how many use a loophole to get around Jones act though.
