    Mitch Hedberg

I'm tired of guessing quotes offered by the kids. Here's some Mitch Hedberg quotes. Freaking genius! My lucky number is four billion. That doesn't come in real handy when you're gambling. "Come on four billion! ######! Seven. Not even close. I need some more dice. Four billion divided by six, at least. One time, this guy handed me a picture of him, he said,"Here's a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture of you is when you were younger. "Here's a picture of me when I'm older." "You son-of-a-######! How'd you pull that off? Lemme see that camera! Sometimes I wave to people I don't know. It's very dangerous to wave to someone you don't know because what if they don't have a hand? They'll think you're cocky. "Look what I got motherfucker! This thing is useful. I'm gonna go pick something up! My belt holds up my pants and my pants have belt loops that hold up the belt. What the ######’s really goin on down there? Who is the real hero? I had a piece of Carefree Sugarless gum and I was still worried. It never kicked in, I took it back to the store and said "Bullshit!" I saw a lady on T.V. She was born without arms. Literally, she was born with her hands attached to her shoulders... and that was sad, but then they said, "Lola does not know the meaning of the word 'can't.'" And that to me was kinda worse... in a way... ya know? Not only does she not have arms, but she doesn't understand simple contractions. It's very simple Lola, you just take two words, you put them together, then you take out the middle letters, you put a comma in there and you raise it up! Imagine being killed by a bow and arrow. That would suck. An arrow killed you, they would never solve the crime. "Look at that dead guy. Let's go that way." Fish are always eating other fish. If fish could scream, the ocean would be loud as ######. You would not want to submerge your head, nothing but fish going "Ahhh, ######! I thought I looked like that rock!" If you find yourself lost in the woods, ###### it, build a house. Well, I was lost but now I live here. I have severely improved my predicament. I just bought a 2-bedroom house, but I think I get to decide how many bedrooms there are, don't you? "###### you, real estate lady! This bedroom has an oven in it! This bedroom's got a lot of people sitting around watching TV. This bedroom is a.k.a. a hallway. This bedroom's over in that guy's house! Sir, you have one of my bedrooms, are you aware. Do not decorate it." I had this parrot. The parrot talked, but it did not say "I'm hungry." So it died. You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later. I saw a commercial on late night TV, it said,"Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were.

Jacob Blake shooting - honest question

Jacob Blake shooting - honest question

So he deserved to die? I get it....dude absolutely did not help himself at all. Listen to the cops, man. But not doing that means you die? Dude was cuffed and wasn't a threat at all. Especially considering the MPD had been told not to kneel on people in order to subdue them. That case I'm still sympathetic. Jacob Blake? Not really. Had he been walking away, down the street away from the car.....sure. But you can't act like that and put the cop in a situation where he thinks its me or you. And obviously the guys a piece of work. But there's a rapist posting in this thread and nobody thought he was a scumbag. People were actually supporting that guy. Telling him to delete the evidence here at the GC. So the moral outrage here isn't about a dude's past transgressions, it's just about the dude.

    Systemic Racism

See the .2 after SL 2013-381? And this wasn't pretty much the same as SL 2013-381.....there were provisions in there that affected African Americans with surgical precision......and these bills no longer had to be screened by DOJ because Shelby was repealed. This thing hasn't been in effect so there's no way you can argue it hasn't affected the black vote. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/courts_law/inside-the-republican-creation-of-the-north-carolina-voting-bill-dubbed-the-monster-law/2016/09/01/79162398-6adf-11e6-8225-fbb8a6fc65bc_story.html

The above is from the ruling I linked above. Black voting did go up when Shelby was in place. When that was repealed, the law in question was proposed. It was clearly designed to affect the Black vote.

    Systemic Racism

My viewpoint isn't why this racist bill got shot down. It's the judge's. She made it pretty clear the bill was racist. Given the history of suppressing the black vote, and the audacity of these legislators to mine minority voting data before drafting the bill, pretty easy to connect the dots. Is it any wonder why blacks vote Democrat? Maybe things would change if more Republicans spoke out about it.

    Systemic Racism

Not only has this bill not been overturned, it has been blocked twice from becoming law. And both times because it was discriminatory in nature. It is not Jim Crow and doesn't specifically address blacks and so yeah, if a white person failed to meet the criteria they would have a harder time voting. For every one white person, there are more blacks.....which is why the bill was struck down because it disproportionately affected blacks. By your line of thinking the IRS under Obama wasn't really targeting conservative groups because leftist groups were nabbed as well. Doesn't make any sense.

    Systemic Racism

The judge ruling on the case called it racist: https://www.ca4.uscourts.gov/Opinions/Published/161468.P.pdf So calling it racist does in fact hold up. Or are we against the Rule of Law when we disagree with it?
  10. FeelingMN

    Systemic Racism

The intent of the law was to disenfranchise black voters, which is why it was struck down. The Republicans who tried to pass that law will probably try something else to curb the black vote. The bill never became the law of the land but the people who wrote that bill are still in power. And it's why we have all these attempts to stop voter fraud....which is really an effort to suppress votes. Sweater vests help. If you're serious about becoming a city councilman you're going to have to get used to communicating with others who can actually articulate their viewpoints half way decently. Maybe the Geek Club is more your speed. If the intent of those laws were to target those groups, then yes. But considering those laws are openly enforced and haven't been ruled unconstitutional I'm thinking they don't target any one group. Unlike the NC bill. When the IRS under Obama went after conservative groups they pinpointed certain words....Patriot and Liberty and Tea Party. Those words are more likely associated with conservatives and so they were absolutely targeting those groups from the start. According to your line of thinking, it's all good because leftist groups probably contained those words too.

    Systemic Racism

If it affected more Black people, how could it be the same for everyone? Seems like NC Republicans knew what/who to target and put it into the bill. It was inherently unequal from the start. So yes, I disagree it was the same for everyone.

    Systemic Racism

North Carolina Republicans tried to pass a racist bill into law. Your state government blatantly attempted to disenfranchise minority voters. The fact that it isn't law doesn't prove that systemic racism doesn't exist. State government proposing racist bills is kinda the textbook definition of systemic racism. And the article I linked only mentions feelings with regard to minorities' outlook of the future. They disproportionately are affected by intimidation at the polls. Something the Republicans are trying to do again this fall: https://www.salon.com/2020/05/19/republicans-recruit-50000-volunteers-to-police-voter-fraud-in-november/ It's funny that you dismiss that research as predicated on feelings.....but you wanna talk about the black lady in pajamas buying scratch offs and ZERO black families showing up to help make your school look purdy. Juxtaposed with your own personal rags to riches story. Seems like your message is that there is no such thing as systemic racism and that if people continually experience hardship it has to be because of a lack of character. No wonder you defended Donald Sterling back in the day. Sheesh

For telling women of color to go to the countries they originated from and fix them first.....even though they are Americans? Yes....he's wrong. Disagree with them all you want but the message is wrong. I used to call out RaiderHater for telling Blacks to go back to Africa if they have such an issue with the US. I think it's focked up. I guess you agree with RapistHitter that if a minority wants to change policy in the US, they are wrong and should go back to their own country. Agree to disagree I guess.

    Systemic Racism

Dunno. Didn't link any articles about NYC. I did link one detailing a racist policy in North Carolina. Are you suggesting it was not racist?
  16. FeelingMN

    Systemic Racism

So North Carolina didn't try to change election laws purely based on race? That law was struck down because it was racist and so exemplifies systemic racism. In general, voter suppression is an example of systemic racism: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/07/poll-prri-voter-suppression/565355/ There's literally thousands of articles out there discussing the issue.

That stuff was from Trump's twitter feed.....which is how I knew he was talking about AOC/Omar/et al countries....not their cities. Sounds like you're the one getting crappy info.

Surprised KSB doesn't remember his state tried to pass election laws that were subsequently found to be discriminatory in nature. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/court-north-carolina-voter-id-law-targeted-black-voters/ So let's add voter suppression to your list. Maybe racial profiling? https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senates-lone-black-gop-member-says-police-stopped-him-7-times-in-a-year Here's some other things to consider as well. https://www.businessinsider.com/us-systemic-racism-in-charts-graphs-data-2020-6#one-of-the-contributing-factors-to-the-household-wealth-disparity-is-student-loans-9

Raise your fist to BLM or we’ll ruin your lunch

Nope. Trump told those women to go back to their crime ridden countries and fix those first before telling him how to fix America. Birtherism was never warranted, and him repeating....like he did with Joe Scarborough murdering his intern....things he's heard doesn't excuse him for repeating it. Fact is, he questioned the legitimacy of two African Americans vying for the highest offices of the land. Add to that, he retweeted a couple of bumpkins in Florida riding around chanting White Power and him calling NFL players who knelt during the National Anthem "sons of b!tches".....and it's pretty easy to see how blacks in this country are turned off by Republicans in general, but definitely Trump. And while I won't blame Trump for everything that's transpired this summer, the things I listed certainly haven't helped and may have even inflamed the situation. The fact that you defend it says a lot about you.

I don't vote straight Democrat. And I've increasingly gone third party as I've gotten older. So you're just wrong about who I "keep voting for". What solutions have the Republicans come up with to address any of this? Trump says he's been awesome for blacks and points to unemployment numbers. But is it any coincidence that a black man runs for president and a black woman runs for vice president and Trump questions their legitimacy? Or if women of color.....born in America.....question his authority, that they go back to their sh!tholes? That's Republican "leadership".

Raise your fist to BLM or we’ll ruin your lunch

I don't think blacks want to hear that their actions sometimes contribute to violence. And whites don't want to hear that they might be prejudiced which might influence their actions. I think it's a really complicated issue that has several contributing factors, some of which are black in nature. Some are white. I have no answers for how to fix any of this other than treat people with respect and dignity. Except the looters and rioters. Fock'em.

I agree that we all should be judged by the content of our character and not the color of our skin. Absolutely. I'll say this.....people are really emotional about all this. So much so that it has short circuited any amount of reason to help solve the problem. If the problem is systemic racism, then let's solve the problem. I think you'd probably agree with that much. And if I'm reading you right, views shouldn't be absolutely rejected on the sole basis that they don't strictly adhere to the BLM platform. I agree. If we want to find a solution to all this, it's gonna take a conversation involving people we might not necessarily agree with but should respect. That should be a two way street.

BLM probably thinks I'm part of the problem. I don't march. I don't scream at the top of my lungs at someone. I am not in favor of defunding the police. But I am sympathetic to ferreting out racism wherever it exists. And if there's a policy proposal that would work to achieve that, I'd give it strong consideration. Unfortunately it's not enough for these groups where you're either with them or against them. If you're not in lockstep with exactly what they believe, then you're part of the problem. I'm not a black and white thinker. I want nuance.

Something we agree on. In one breath you say that you judge people by their actions. The next.....you look at Black people differently. Tim Scott? What has he done to make you look at him differently? I am wholeheartedly against riots. I am entirely against a mob disrupting somebody peacefully dining. Fock'em. So in that regard you and I are on the same page. Where we differ is that I don't look at black people differently because of any of this unless they give me reason to. That's judging people on the basis of their actions.
