Thanks all for the comments, it was an interesting cross section of feedback. This was the case of an assumed, but never documented playoff seeding strategy. The fundamental question is: Is a rule a rule in FFL if it was never written down and never checked/enforced in the past? For those that say deal with it, at the end of the day I agree. That the decision was made after the other playoff teams lobbied the LM is what made me want to meddle with my roster (correctable by the LM). The beers the LM is buying me as an apology for his mistake will more than make up for it. For those who say that actions in a fantasy football league will affect a workplace environment, all I can say is I am glad I work in the office I work in then. This league has existed for 5 years with various issues over the years, and no one has ever had a lasting argument over it. The ability for people to argue and fight with one another in a fantasy football setting has been a team-building activity, not a divisive thing.

The only reason divisions were added to the league was for the purpose of making schedule randomization easier. If the same 10 teams are carried forward from year to year, ESPN defaults to the same schedule each year. Changing the division makeups each year was an easy way to ensure unique scheduling each year. Seeding was not discussed. What's done is done. My opinion is unless it is a rule documented, change it for the next season. Its always interesting to hear other perspectives.

We are adults and have no problem separating our fantasy football hijinks from our professional relationships and personal friendships. Its a game so any frustrations with a league are not worth real world anger. I wouldn't call a reversible action that ends with us all laughing over a beer a tantrum. We argue, we laugh, and the league learns something the following year. Its happened before and will happen again. Next year this league will have posted bylaws as as result. I thought it was an interesting case to debate on this forum. My real money leagues have clearly defined bylaws to avoid situations like this.

There were no intentional changes to the format of the playoffs this year. He apparently thought it was 2 per division all along, but this was the first year that the divisions ended up unbalanced in strength enough for this to be in play. Honestly in prior years I was either a top 2 seed or out of the playoffs, so it never was something that I looked into. Coincidence made it a non-issue until this year, as it is my understanding that the playoff rules have been untouched since the league was created. It was an honest mistake on his part, but do you fix this one at the end of the regular season? For a work league, there is surprisingly little trash talk or discussion, so the playoff race is not discussed a lot. I subscribe to the "do no harm" school of being a LM, and there were some smaller issues with trade vetoes not involving me earlier in the year. This is the only site I post on, so its not me if you have seen this story elsewhere. And I understand that dumping my roster is a hollow protest as it can be edited back, but the clusterf'ck of an arguement between the LM and the playoff teams jocking for position all day tomorrow will at least make me feel better.

So one of my leagues is a somewhat friendly workplace league (only $10 buy-in) that I have been in for five years. It is an ESPN-standard scoring league with 10 teams (4 in the playoffs) and the LM is in his 2nd year in the position. Here is the situation that I lost it over today: It is a 10 team league, broken into 2 divisions to set who plays each other more. The division I am in had 3 of the top 4 team records in the league, with mine as the #3 team in division 1 with a 6-6-1 record. While the LM thought that he had set the league up so that the top two teams in each division would make the playoffs, in actuality it was set so that the top 4 records made it in regardless of division. So when I got up this morning I was the #4 seed in the playoffs over the 2nd place team in division two who had a 6-7 record. LM decides that this was not what he had intended, so he manually edited the playoff bracket to swap the 2nd place team in division 2 into my slot. The other playoff teams, not wanting me in the playoffs as I won it the past two years, backed his move. LM was out of the playoffs and not affected by this either way. Naturally I am beyond pissed off. This was by no means my strongest team in the leagues I play, but I legitimately had the 4th highest record in the league. Regardless, as someone who is a LM in other leagues, you can't change the scoring or playoff system rules after the playoff pairings have been set. Period. If this is not what the LM intended, fix it for next year! I hate divisions in FFL, this being one of the reasons. Should I dump all my players to wreak havoc on the playoffs and walk away from the league in protest? LM will not refund my money.

I wasn't expecting a whole game, but not to have his butt on the bench for the whole game. This is gonna cost me the title... whew...it was a mistake by espn gamecast. It had all his points attributed to Flynn until a few minutes ago. I don't like week 17 leagues either, but this one is run by a friend for the first time. My other 3 leagues ended last week.

Should I go with Favre or Alex Smith for my second qb. (rivers is my qb1) Favre got me to the playoffs but is feuding with his coach and has been aweful the last two weeks. Alex Smith gets detroit... Week 2 of the championship tomorrow and I only have an 8 pt lead. Thanks!

Playing the #1 team in the league with the chance to pull even in the standings. Slaton gets pulled after scoring 0.1 points, and I end up losing by 1.6. Then, either of the two garbage throws to Fitz at the end of the game would have been enough as well. Who else got boned by Staton?

Up by 15 with only Jeff Reed to go. Opponent has Portis and Ward going tonight. Here's hoping I squeak one out...(or reed hits 5-50+ yard FGs)
