The official Bust of the Year thread

I knew Caddy would have a sophmore slump for whatever reason but I just felt he would. I can't believe people took Edge or Tiki that high. Tiki would be good in yardage leagues but a lot of people took him #4 overall in my league (it's a bit TD heavy so that's why) and I don't think he was worth it that high. Funny how no tiki owner made the playoffs either in my leagues. Edge had bust written all over him, he was on my "must avoid at all costs" during the preason. He was overrated when he was on the Colts, I mean it's not that hard to average 4.1 ypc when teams stack only 4-5 in the box. He was really the product of the colt's system IMO and I knew he would suck on the Cardinals and wouldn't be worth a mid 1st rounder. I didn't think Lamont Jordan would suck that bad and would've produced at a second round pick level so I didn't see that coming and so many people still had him on their teams hoping he would produce but he never did which is worse than being injured since you can at least start someone else instead of a nonproducer. so I'd say Lamont is the official bust of the year.
  2. I would say Alexander is a fantasy bust for a #1 overall pick because he's been injured. But injury is better than not producing since you know you can bench him and start someone else. Yesterday was what I would consider a consistent game with 70+ yards and a TD. That's around 9 pts in my league so he at least put points on the board.

RB Help - Gore or Tatum Bell

Tough choice between Bell and Gore, but Gore has been tearing it up but Bell has gotten healthy and could give you a good game. But I think I'd go with Gore since he's been playing well except the fumbling may cost you a few points.

    Tatum Bell

Tantum really has good matchups the next two weeks with Arizona and Cinncinati. I'm not sold on the Bengals and Arizona willl give up a lot on the ground too. He'll be good for a consistent 100+ yard game and a TD during the next two weeks IMO although he is a bit risky and may get a lot of yards but no TD. I traded for him a few weeks ago cheap when he was injured mainly because of his favorable playoff schedule and I'd start him if I had no other options.

Is TIKI BARBER a must start?

Reception points, unless they're worth a lot, don't really help unless they get alot but I don't think tiki has had a lot and even if he did, he still doesn't score TDs and most leagues are TD heavy. Stephen Jackson and Rudi Johnson were my top two targets after the "big 3" were gone and if I had Barber I would've benched him or traded him a while ago so I don't think he is a must start. Barber without a TD scores 10 pts? Even with yards and a few receptions I still don't think he'd score 10 a week in the leagues I play in. I don't know why everyone judges players by multi-TD games, look at Plaxico Burress, he's been one of my favorite WRs this year despite missing a few games with injury because in the games he's been playing, he's been scoring about a TD a game which has been great yet some people think he's been having a bad year because he hasn't had a 3 TD game yet. With that being said, big games in the playoffs are welcome, but I find it unlikely that you even got to the playoffs with a boom-or-bust type roster unless you boom a lot more than you bust or had some good matchups some weeks. But for the OP's specific case, I think tiki is a must start since your other options are even more unreliable. But if you have other options who might get you some TDs, then I'd go with them.

Is TIKI BARBER a must start?

I'm surprised people spent high round draft picks on Tiki unless you get one of those wierd yardage bonus leagues. Maybe even in ppr leagues but those receptions for Tiki aren't worth more than touchdowns unless receptions are worth 2 points or tds are only worth 4. But for most standard leagues, you still need TDs to win games in my experience and Tiki doesn't get TDs. Even if he does get somehow get a "blow-up" game for 3 or 4 TDs, it doesn't hide the fact that he hasn't produced for you all seaon but if you somehow made the playoffs with a nonproducer at RB and started him every week, he might have a good game in the playoffs but I still find it unlikely. He himself even said not to draft him for fantasy, so although he's an unselfish and stand-up guy, I don' think he was worth the #4 overall pick in most leagues.

    BUSH DOUBTERS!

Wow so a guy does nothing for several weeks and then scores 4 TDs in one game and all of a sudden, he's been averaging .5 TDs a game? And I was talking about the draft they had with the ESPN "experts" which wasn't a ppr league if I recall. But then again, people who generally follow the advice of those "experts" probably don't win very many leagues. I'd trust random people on these message boards over those guys. Even in a ppr league, I wouldn't take him in the first round. You usually don't start a guy who does nothing for most of the beginning of the season and then starts produces one game and then say he was good all year. You need guys to score TDs depending on the rules of your leagues, and no TDs = no starts for me. Sure one game is one game, but consistency wins in FF. And just so you know, guys like Tiki, Edge, and Mcgahee all had giant red flags headed into the season and I'm surprised people fell for the "experts" opinions and used high first rounders on them. But even guys like Ronnie Brown produced in the beginning so you can then take action, make trades, etc... when they get injured or fall apart whereas guys who don't do anything for most of the beginning of the season and then have one huge game will cost you more games than you will win. For example, Mcnabb produced in the beginning but got injured, but because of the injury you had time before the trade deadline and the waivers to look for servicable backups with plenty of time left in the season without putting a non-producer in your line-up every week in hopes that he'll blow up ( a startegy that usually doesn't work). Like I said, bush has made plays as a WR, but I would have drafted several WRs over him in the first round. If you did draft him in the first round and are in contention, then good for you, but the majority of people who took him in the first round probably won't be playing in the playoffs. Just like the majority of guys who took Barber or Edge in the first for that matter. But then people will come and then talk about everyone else on their teams, yadda yadda yadda, your league sucks if you can waste high round picks and still have plenty of studs on your team. Period. Either that or you got lucky matchups every week.

***OFFICIAL*** LaDainian Tomlinson TD record holder

I find it very hard to imagine that anyone wouldn't have the #1 overall seed with Tomlinson on their fantasy team. If you didn't make the playoffs with Tomlinson, then I don't have much to say.

    BUSH DOUBTERS!

I'm only laughing at the idiots who took Bush in the first/second rounds of their drafts. It seems like there were quite a few of those people after some ESPN "expert" idiotically took him with a mid first round pick in some mock draft they had. If you really took Bush with a high draft pick and ended up in the playoffs, then either you're playing in a free league or your league sucks so it's not even worth bragging about. For a guy who might catch 100 balls, you would think he would be a WR and not a running back. Bush runs the ball poorly between the tackles and gets stuffed almost every time. IMO he'd be a great WR, he's been a lot better WR than a RB so far as well, and if he made the switch, he'd probably do a lot better without risking injury and without getting pounded as much. NO already lines him up in the slot a lot anyways. And please, don't combine receiving/rushing yards in the same category, that's just stupid. They both have different effects and if you don't realize that, then stop watching ESPN.

    IF he's available...

It's because people watch too much ESPN. The same people who missed the playoffs are probably the same people who watch that "ESPN fantasy show". Mario Williams hasn't been that bad for a rookie and even saved a game for the Texans with his deflected pass against Miami. Demeco Ryans has been playing very well for a rookie too.

why florida will win BCS title game

I'm almost positive USC was favored for that game. And a 7 point favorite isn't exactly the same as "OU was supposed to destroy USC". Not to mention Auburn should've been in the title game that year over OU IMO. Ronnie Brown and Rookie of the year Cadillac Williams in the same backfield > Fragile Adrian Peterson.
  12. gold_finger

Is Bush the man in NO?

He got 37 yards off 10 carries while Deuce had around 126 yards I believe. Running the ball is the RB's primary responsibility and it's hard to see NO dump Deuce because Deuce can pound defenses which is what ultimately wins games IMO.
  13. gold_finger

Where did the USC statisticians go?

All schools and conferences agreed that the BCS is the way to determine the "national championship" of college football, not the AP poll. They got shafted that year but it doesn't mean USC can claim a national championship due to overwhelming media bias.
  14. gold_finger

USC media fraud! Same arguements you made for them

Exactly, unlike in the NFL, media hypefest actually influences things in the BCS which is ridiculous IMO. Most of those guys have no idea what they're talking about and were nobodys. It's not like former great players are making the analysis, just a bunch of guys on the media payroll who have to say what the company wants them to say to get the most ratings and $$$ out of the network. Does anyone actually take the advice of the "ESPN fantasy show"? Everyone makes the argument of why Florida and Michigan should play but where were these arguments two weeks ago? The only reason USC got the pass between those two teams is because the media loves them more. Simple as that.

    University of Florida

I agree, saying OSU would blowout Florida is pure speculation because they haven't actually played the game. What happened when ESPN proclaimed USC to be the "greatest college football team of all time" before they lost to Texas? What happened when the Colt's started the season with a 13-0 record and ended up with the #1 seed only to lose to the sixth seeded team at home? Even Wimbledon a while ago, no one though Maria Sharapova would beat Serena Williams but what happened there? If everything turned out how it was "supposed" to be, why would they even bother playing the game? You can make predictions about the outcome, but you can't necessarily treat them as facts until they play the game.
