My wife wants us all to go to her brother's house on Sunday since her dad will be there. No big deal right? She should see her dad on Father's Day. Except: 1. It's 1 1/2 hours drive each way and they want us there at 1pm. No time to do anything meaningful before or after. 2. Her brother's a complete dud and his son, who I fired last year will also be there. Oh yeah. Their 3 large, annoying dogs will be in attendance and out of control. Did I mention that my oldest son and I are both allergic to pet dander? 3. They'll serve the same crapass hot dogs, veggie tray and 7 layer bean dip they served the last 500 times we were at their house. 4. I spend a ton of time with my sons (ages 4&6) during the week. On the weekends, and especially holidays, I look forward to a little break, and some adult time with my wife. Not gonna happen while she's hanging with her family. I'll be in charge of making sure my sons don't drown in the pool or get mauled by one of their canines. 5. If I make it a point to ensure that Mother's Day is HER DAY, shouldn't she be doing the same for me on Father's Day? I envisioned a day of golf with my boys, a nice brunch out, maybe a little fishing in our pond, grilling some steaks, catching the last few hours of the U.S. Open, and a evening of bedroom adventures with my wife. Is that a lot to ask? Instead, I'm going to drive half the day to eat some sh!tty food with people I don't really like, sneeze my head off, play no golf, watch no golf, and spend the night sulking because the only possible way she could make up for this will be taken out of the equation since she's gonna be on her period Sunday. Happy Father's Day to me!
