So when should the draft start?

Should we just do a slow draft on this board? I doubt we can get 14 agreed on a live date, but we could try.

 

Too soon to set a date now, but maybe some people know if they will be away on vacation.

I will be on vacation to the Wisconsin Dells during the last week in August.

I know many people are against drafting early due to the uncertainty of many players, but I sort of like it. And like Walt said, I doubt we'll get all 14 together at one time, and I don't want anyone drafting my team but myself.

I'll be away on vacation from July 30th to August 3rd.

 

If we end up doing a slow draft on the board, I vote we do it sooner than later. If I remember correctly, it took a long while last year for us to complete just the last 4 or 5 rounds. Imagine the time table on a full draft...

I'm up for anything. I work during the day and the internet use at work is monitored now, so I would prefer a slow draft on the message board or like what we used last year on MFL. At least you could que your picks if you thought you would not be available for a while.

if not then we could start a slow one say the week of august 4th and try to commit to 1rnd a day...basically if you can check in just couple times a day we'd be ok.

I'll set it up on the site we used last year. We'll have to agree on a start time and how long we give each person to draft. Last year I think we started with 24 hours and moved to 12 then maybe 8 or 4.

 

I know that I was in Hawaii during the draft last year so the long amount of time worked for me.

 

My vote is that we start sending the money for the trophy to last year's winner and give them the website when they send the $. If they don't send it by July 15, we replace them.

June 22-24th - Away up north (WAAAAAAY UP)

June 29-July 12th - Counseling at Camp

 

July 16-20 - Evenings are tied up

 

Aug. 4-8 - Evenings tied up

Aug. 8-9 - Bonfire/Camp Out

 

Any Sunday is not good, unless it's later evening.

 

I also have a vacation that will likely be later in August. Other than these, I will be pretty available. If we try to push the speed, I will make arrangements to be contactable, in the case of trades, etc.

There is a lot more going on, but I can work around it enough to get to the computer, or set a live draft time apart. I didn't include a draft that will probably be August 15th, because I haven't received final confirmation from the commish.

 

I don't use pocket protectors. I keep the pen behind my ear, or tucked under my baseball cap.

I would love a live draft on any evening basically. If that doesn't work, a slow draft using that site we used last year would work. HOWEVER, last year was a total pain because people realy dragged their feet with the time limits. I would suggest no more than 12 hour time limit.

At this point I'm free, but it is likely that by the time we draft, I will not have daytime access.

 

As usual, this will be a tough chore to find a suitable date/time for all.

Anytime is good for Probie, but night is preferred if we do try to knock out a live draft.

 

Maybe we could get like the first 5 rounds done live? I think it is so much more fun to do a live draft and talk smack while doing it.

After reading everyone's availability, these seem to be the frontrunners:

 

Starting Dates:

1) Week of August 4th

2) Week of August 11th

3) Week of August 18th

 

Drafting Method:

1) Start a slow draft on the board in and around the week of whichever date above (probably the earliest one to allow more time). Put an 8 or 12 hour time limit up and go from there.

2) Again starting at a date mentioned above, do the first 6-8 rounds of the draft on MFL as we did last season. We'll then complete the draft via means of slow draft on the board.

 

Praise, criticism, suggestions? Do we want to vote using the above criterion to get a better idea of drafting plans?

In a perfect world, I agree with bob_probert. If we can do the early part of the draft live, that's awesome. I don't mind the dates set forth, except that I am limited as to when I get on the evenings of that first week. Even then, I should be able to check in at least fairly consistently.

 

The more we can get done in a live draft the better, as Walter34 is limited to evenings by then, and daytimes are easier some on a "check-in" basis.

 

Is it possible to take an evening to get started? Like on the 3rd, 10th, or 17th?

That should allow for the left coasters to be online. We can go until people have to bail (11 or 12ish)

 

From there we can continue with a slow draft or schedule another live round.

 

I have found that http://www.xpertleagues.com/ has a pretty decent draft setup. MFL can also do the trick as long as its free during the preseason.

 

Is everyone available at this point on the evening of the 11th?

I don't see any complications with the 11th. In fact, depending on how long we allow for picks, we should be able to do the large majority of the draft before having to slow down.
