This isnt an exact quote. But reporter with NFL network asked Larry Johnson how he thought it was going by having both him and Priest sharing carries in the backfield.

His Response:

"Im a young guy. I want to be a starter somewhere in the league, but for right now...its working out okay."

End of interview.

Take it for what its worth...but sounds like Larry doesnt want to share. Must have been an only child

Do you honestly blame the guy?

he came out of college as the single season rushing record and could ahve actually demolished that if he played more then 2qtrs a game

he gets drafted as insruance to priest holmes, he gets in games and proves he can play but is still behind holmes...he wants the load

teams would love to have a guy who wants to carry the rock all the time.

but thats just the thing-he wasn't drafted to be the savior of the Chiefs running game, he was drafted exactly in relation to what the Chiefs thought he would be in the NFL: dependable, but not the star.

The whole college thing is irrelevent to me-yeah, he did it at that level, but if Larry Johnson should be pissed off at anybody that he was drafted as a backup and has been one his entire career, he needs to blame Ron Dayne at some point.

What's the problem with what he said? He didn't bad-mouth Priest, or say he deserved to be the starting back. He was just honest, and ended it saying it was working out OK. But in reality, who would want to be a back-up for another year when it's proven he can be a starter? Maybe it's me, but some guys are really wanting to read into something I guess. And no, I don't have either guy on my team. JMO.

:pointstosky: Funny, i thought Barry Sanders 2600+ yards in 88 at OSU was the single season rushing record.

yeah that's about right, I'm sure he'll whine for about 3 more hours over a couple bottles of vodka then go slap his g/f around for kicks. Maybe he would play more if he could pass receive, they don't call him stonehands Johnson for nothing.

Huh? Most inane comment of all time. WTF does Dayne have to do with LJ's pro career. Where's Scooter when a douch needs to be told he's a douch.

Well, I will step in, don't shotgun douch and post. It affects the mind.

then if Larry was a "can't miss" guy, why was not a Top 10 pick? Or a Top 20 for that matter? Seems to me that Dayne, the reigning yardage champ at the time, was a "can't miss guy" at one time too

fvck man, its cool if you love Larry Johnson, just try not to slurp him so hard next time, okay?

Why do people get so mad that someone wants to play. Hell if your job and career only lasted around 6-10 years you would want to do anything you could to be on top. Imagine youre an old man at 30.

Damn Im close to being retired I guess. Get your millions and run!!!!

Be selfish, its what the NFL has become. Screw team loyalty its all about paychecks.

What does that have to do with anything? A couple problems with that.

He beat who for the record....(assuming you mean Penn St. single season record)

Ki-Jana Carter...great pro...sheesh

Curtis Enis...tipping the scales at 500+ now

DJ Dozier....should have stuck with baseball

Blair Thomas....okay

Curt Warner and Franco Harris...finally a Penn St. running back with some credit.

As for records...big deal. David Klingler held several NCAA records, what good did it do him. on Dayne is the career rushing record holder...what good did it do him. Dayne, Weinke, Ward, Crouch, J. White, Weurffel, Salaam.....ect....all won Heismans which translates into nothing in the NFL. College is college and the NFL is a whole new ball game.

As for him wanting to start however, great! Who wants a player on their team that is happy to be a back up? He has talent and it is being used the best way possible right now.

I think he was just saying "WTF are you talking about?" to your original post. I still can't figure out what you mean, myself.

Holy crap, I can't believe people are complaining about that quote. That is exactly the attitude you want from EVERY NFL player. Check that, any team athelete, period. If they didn't have the drive and desire to be the GUY, then they shouldn't be palying the game.

I'm sure you'd rather have a guy that says, "yeah, I like being a backup, this way I can collect a paycheck and not really work as hard." Or, "I'd much rather share the load because my skills aren't good enough to be an every down player." PLEASE, you guys are freakin clueless!

Well said. Plus, what a totally innocuous quote for you guys to be hammering on. Basically, all he said is that he's young, he wants to be a starter at some point, but things are going okay for now. Not sure what's so egotistical about that. In fact, it seems pretty humble by NFL standards (compared, for example, to what Willis McGahee is saying).

Back off, dudes.
