Culpepper To The Cardinals In The Off-season?

Recommended Posts

There are many trade rumors going around that a number of Vikings players will be moved in the off-season for obvious reasons. However, Culpepper is believed one of those players. Dennis Green seems to have an interest in him, since he drafted him. He is apparently interested in going after him in the off-season. Should he be traded?

The Vikes are moving to an new 675 million dollar retractable stadium in 2008-09 http://www.vikings.com/DAM_public/6698.jpg, http://www.vikings.com/DAM_public/6699.jpg. Rumor has it that the organization wants the stadium left open for home field advantage in the winter. Therefore, should they go after a young QB that could develop into a good outdoor QB? With Culpepper's fumbling problems, should he be moved?

The stadium is not a sure deal yet. I can't see them moving Culpeper IMO...

Wow that would be interesting - that would make Boldin and Fitzgerald very highly valued fantasywise next year.

It could very well happen, maybe 65/35% it does happen. Also don't be suprised if you see Edge/Westy/Shaun go to the cardinals as well. Green wants a back, and one of those three will definately be there. All can catch well and be a threat receiving, which green would like.

If the cards pull in pepper(or leinart for that matter) and one of those 3 RB's, it's to the super bowl they go. Awesome D, and that offense will be unstoppable.

Shouldn't they be building around him :headbanger:

Well that kinda depends on who is coming in. A lot of coaches out there (the Tuna comes to mind) like to bring in their own guys. Particularly for a critical position such as QB. No doubt C-pep would have considerable trade value, so maybe maybe not...

Also don't forget Arizona's new stadium next year, they want to be a contender right away for it and have been building towards that for the last 2 years. If they bring in Culpepper(or one of the three RB's I just mentioned) then they have an identity and a huge success margin for the new "franchise" image.

Where are these "rumors" coming from besides bored fans on the internet? Do you know what the cap hit to the Vikings would be if they traded Culpepper? It would set them back 5 years!

Cupepper isn't going ANYWHERE! Bank on it and move on!

I don't have all of the numbers right in front of me but basicly all of the bonus money they have paid him would jump right into the 2006 cap!

Bottom line is it is a pipe dream!

The Cards wanted to trade for him before the deadline but it would have been to much of a cap hit for the Vikes. Where there smoke there is fire imo.

It depends on how that bonus money is paid out. You're speculating that it would be a big cap hit, but you have no idea how his contract is structured. If you do not know how his contract is structured, then you can not possibly know if it will be a big cap hit or not. It could just as easily free up cap space for them, again, depending upon how his contract and bonus money are set up. Therefore, the bottom line is you have no idea whether this trade talk is a pipe dream or if its legitimate...just like the rest of us.

good offense, too bad it would stay together for a year max before they cant put a full starting roster on the field due to the price tags of these guys.....

theyd have to pay one of those RBs, then Cpepp, then deal with the fact that Boldin and Fitz are both startingto get into the years where they will have to redo contracts, since they have both been studs, they will want a lot.....

Some people wouldn't be surprised that if Daunte Culpepper falters in Chicago today, Arizona Cardinals coach Denny Green will try to trade for the Vikings quarterback before Tuesday's NFL deadline.

Charley Walters' column appears Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. He can be reached at cwalters@pioneerpress.com.

ask any vikings fan about Charlie Walters

Wow, would Edge lead-block for Alexander, and then bring in Westy on 3rd downs?

What a bunch of crap. Get rid of Moss one year, then CPep the next year before you're about to open a new stadium? Wouldn't they want fans to come to the new stadium? That generally requires you field a decent team. Getting rid of your stars probably won't accomplish that.
