Los Texans (0-6) se enfrentan a los Cleveland Browns (2-4) por tercera ocasión en su historia. Houston busca su primer triunfo de la temporada contra el equipo que dio inicio a la racha perdedora del equipo al ser vencidos por los Browns en el último partido del 2004.

 

A pesar de que han Ganado dos partidos, los Browns han tenido sus problemas ésta temporada y vienen de una derrota decepcionante contra Detroit la semana pasada. Por sólo la segunda vez ésta temporada, los Texans son favoritos, por dos puntos, en un partido.

 

Sequía en Cleveland: La escuadra ofensiva de Cleveland es la número 13 de la AFC y sus problemas tal como los de Houston es de no poder anotar. En tres de sus últimos cuatro partidos la escuadra no ha logrado ni un touchdown. De hecho con la excepción de dos goles de campo cortos, los Browns no han avanzado más aya de la yarda 40 de sus rivales en los últimos dos partidos.

 

En sus últimos tres partidos su QB Trent Dilfer ha lanzado seis intercepciones, ha sido capturado 10 veces, ha perdido dos balones sueltos y ha completado 49 de 83 pases para sólo 438 yardas (rating de efectividad de 51.2).

 

Dilfer puede estar a punto de ser reemplazado con un novato tan pronto como éste fin de semana. El periódico de Cleveland Plain Dealer reporta que el entrenador en jefe Romeo Crennel ha comentado que ésta considerando seriamente el reemplazar a Dilfer con el novato Charlie Frye.

 

En la derrota de 13-10 contra Detroit, Dilfer completó 10 de 19 pases para 73 yardas, y tres intercepciones, cuatro capturas y un rating de efectividad de sólo 22.4 en lo que fue el peor despliegue ofensivo del equipo de la temporada. Fue también el segundo partido consecutivo sin TD ofensivo por parte de los Browns.

 

El QB veterano de 12 temporadas ha lanzado más intercepciones (8) que touchdowns (6) ésta temporada y ha sido capturado 14 veces en seis partidos jugados.

 

Cleveland si pudo establecer un juego terrestre contra Detroit la semana pasada con su corredor Reuben Droughns quien logró su mejor partido de la temporada al acumular 100 yardas en 19 acarreos.

 

Droughns ha corrido para 431 yardas en 105 acarreos (promedio de 4.1 yardas) pero ni él ni sus compañeros han logrado anotar un TD por tierra ésta temporada.

 

Su wide receiver Antonio Bryant es el líder de la escuadra ofensiva en yardas (304), recepciones (26) y anotaciones. Sus dos touchdowns en la temporada fueron anotados contra los Chicago Bears en el partido que le dio a los Browns su Segundo triunfo del año.

 

El ala cerrada Steven Heiden también cuenta con dos touchdowns y cuenta con 19 recepciones para 205 yardas.

 

El receptor novato Braylon Edwards se ha perdido dos partidos con una infección en su brazo pero regresó a la cancha la semana pasada par enfrentar a Detroit. Brown logró tres recepciones para 30 yardas. Edwards cuenta con 12 recepciones para 196 yardas y un TD ésta temporada.

 

Defensiva deficiente: Los Browns cuentan con la penúltima escuadra defensiva de la AFC y tal como la escuadra ofensiva, ha sido como intimidante ésta temporada.

 

La escuadra permite un promedio de 359.9 yardas por partido y con la pérdida de su esquinero titular Gary Baxter debido a lesión, la defensa contra el juego aéreo continuará con problemas. Este puede ser un punto de ventaja para los Texans.

 

Contra los Lions la semana pasada, la escuadra fue sólida pero nunca hizo una jugada de impacto en el partido. Limitaron al corredor de Detroit Kevin Jones a sólo 74 yardas en 21 acarreos y presionaron al QB Jeff Garcia, pero no lograron ninguna captura. De hecho los Brown cuentan con sólo ocho capturas de QB en toda la temporada.

 

El linebacker Andra Davis es el líder de la escuadra con 69 tackles pero aún ha logrado una captura. El strong safety Chris Crocker, el ala defensiva Alvin McKinley y el linebacker Chaun Thompson comparten el liderato de capturas de QB en el equipo con dos cada uno.

 

Lo que destaca: Para Cleveland sus equipos especiales son los que han brillado ésta temporada.

 

El especialista Novato Joshua Cribbs logró la única jugada electrizante del pasado domingo contra Detroit al regresar una patada de kickoff 90 yardas para TD durante el Segundo cuarto. Cuenta con 11 devoluciones para 288 yardas (promedio de 26.2) ésta temporada.

 

El pateador Phil Dawson ha conectado en todos sus 10 intentos, incluyendo su patada más larga de la temporada de 44 yardas y ha sido efectivo en 6 de 7 puntos extras.

La serie de partidos entre los Texans y los Browns ha sido dominada por Cleveland al haber ganado los primeros dos enfrentamientos. En el 2002 Cleveland dominó a Houston 34-17 y la temporada pasada en Reliant Stadium venció a los Texans por marcador de 22-14.

 

Houston tiene una buena oportunidad de lograr su primer triunfo de la temporada.
