jerryskids 6,790 Posted April 11, 2006 My kids' school has an auction coming up, and they have a deal with Taylor Made where we can get clubs at wholesale, plus they'll donate the same club for the auction. I've always thought about a rescue club to replace my two iron, so I went with the #3, 19 degree loft, configurable weights. Moved the weights to straight vs draw because I tend to draw naturally. Went to the range Sunday to try it. Sweet mother of all that is holy, this club rocks! I tend to hit the ball relatively low; every shot was high and flying 220+, well over the 200 green into the base of the net. Carry was farther than my 3 wood or driver, although both were lower and total travel would be a little farther. In two weeks I'm playing in a tourney at a target-style golf course, I may hit this thing every hole. In the past I've joked with cruzer and others that real men don't use these kinds of clubs. Consider me converted. I highly recommend this club.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted April 11, 2006 I bought the 4-iron equivalent during the offseason myself. I have only used it a couple of times, so I don't know my distance yet. It feels good though

Sho Nuff 720 Posted April 11, 2006 I have the 19 and 22 degree Taylor Mades... Great clubs...took the 3 and 4 iron out of the bag and they definately help. Could have never been as consistent with the 3 and 4 iron as I am with these...and the high ball flight helps try and hold the greens. Perfect for off the tee on those days that I am not controlling my driver or even my 3 wood. Good for the shorter par 4s to give me the perfect approach shot when trying to drive the green is not an option.
George Carlin 1 Posted April 11, 2006 http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/14taydulresmrhst.html 22 degrees thanks. I can't hit a 4 iron worth a crap, this should be just what the doctor ordered
D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted April 11, 2006 I rarely, and I mean rarely, ever use my 2, 3, or 4 iron. You could throw the 5 in there too. I usually pull out the 7 wood. I should look into these 'hybrid' clubs I 'spose.
jerryskids 6,790 Posted April 11, 2006 $? I paid $120 total. Didn't really research how good/bad the price was, as it helps my kids' school.

I can easily see myself never using an iron lower than the 6. I really like a club with a good angle, so I can get loft. I love my 7 wood.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted April 12, 2006 I really don't even know why people carry/use 2-irons anymore. Oh sure they may nut it 1 out of every 10 shots but Tiger, VJ and Phil have taken them out of the bag - that should tell you something.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted April 12, 2006 I have driver, 3W, 5W, 7W, 4H 5-9 irons PW, SW, LW Putter cheater Math not your major? 5 woods/hybrids 5 irons 3 wedges 1 putter ____ 14 total clubs
Sho Nuff 720 Posted April 12, 2006 I don't even carry a 3 or 4 iron - my arsenal includes: driver, 3wood, 5wood, 7wood & 9wood. Driver, 3+, 22 degree rescue, 19 degree rescue, 5-PW, 52 and 56 degree wedges and a putter. Though I need something for the gap between the 3+ and the 22 degree rescue. Im pissed I got rid of my old 4 wood I had...though I have an old persimmon 4 wood at my parent's house that was my grandfathers...the Ginty. I actually hit it quite well so I will probably add that to the back for some old school flavor.

jerryskids 6,790 Posted April 12, 2006 The thing I'll miss about the 2-iron is that it was my club for punching low and long from under trees. I should be able to do almost as well with the 3-iron. Otherwise I almost never hit it off of the fairway, just a tee shot. I used to carry an old beat-up 2-iron as well (a 15th club, I was a cheater) solely for punching out of desert rocks. I'm not a pro (or else I wouldn't be in the desert, duh), and I didn't want to bang up my good clubs. Unfortunately those clubs were stolen.
George Carlin 1 Posted April 12, 2006 Who said that I was good? I just look the part I'm your regular hacker. I could shoot 40's one day and then shoot 60's the very next. Not on a PGA type course of course.

You know, this isn't as crazy as it sounds. It is not uncommon for me at all (when playing really tight tree-lined courses) to take my 7wood out and put my 3-iron in the bag, soley for punching out of trouble. On second thought, maybe we are crazy.

jerryskids 6,790 Posted April 12, 2006 it's like buying anything.. in 6 months it will be old news. I think that model was the one I actually intended to get, but somehow ended up with the dual. I don't need the variable weights, as I said above I moved them to undo the built-in draw, I'd have been happy without all of that fuss. Also I got the stiff shaft, because I swing like a man. Happy hitting!
