Anyone suffering hearing loss from too much loud music/noise?

Recommended Posts

I was 'warned' on another board to not play music too loud all the time because I risk losing my hearing. Of course, i know that it is a fact that if you listen to high decibels for extended periods of time you degenerate your hearing, but I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced it forst hand, and from what?

I think my hearing has been damaged a little bit by all the concerts I went to, back in the day.

No.

Seems to me that the voices in my head still squabble and bicker at the same volume.

Surprisingly no. Though, when I went to more shows and used headphones more, I could tell problems were afoot. Be careful with how often that happens.

Now I just use my car as a personal stereo! The neighbors laugh at me--white bread fantasy football geek, teenage kids, decent job and old-school Van Halen just blastin' down the avenue... My wife uses the foam earplugs at the few concerts we attend now. To me, it just ain't right. That ringing in your ears is take-away value, baby!

i'm pretty certain that mine has been slightly damaged. i've not been tested to confirm, though.

let's just say that i keep earplugs with me at any time a concert is involved...now.

also, the earplugs are great at shows. they totally eliminate the background noise, and the music is exponentially better with truer, richer sound.

Took my 8 year old boy to see the White Stripes back in October. We bought some foam ear plugs for his little ears and ours, just in case, but it really wasn't that loud...took em out after about 10 minutes.

My right ear is still ringing after seeing The Strokes on Tuesday. They felt like they were stuffed with cotton the morning after I saw Robert Pollard two weeks ago.

I will do my damndest to try to remember to wear earplugs for The Stills tomorrow night and Elbow on Saturday.

I don't THINK i've suffered much loss that I can tell, and I usually play my car stereo at max volume, just blew my home speakers and lean my head against the speaker towers at live shows during good songs (not the big shows, just cover bands at clubs). I just think certain music sounds better at really, really, really loud volume. It's an experience thing i guess.

I'm sure it has over the years, but I've always had selective hearing anyway. <_<

I have experienced temporary hearing loss, characterized by a ringing in my ears, after a loud concert. Fortunately, I was young enough that my ears were okay the next day. But that ringing, aka tinitus, damaged my ears, if even slightly. Even though the ringing got better, they might not have returned to full ability, but it was so slight I couldn't notice.

As we age, we gradually lose our hearing naturally. You can't hear as good as you could say 10 years ago, you just don't realize it because it's a very gradual decline.

However, if you add loud noises to the natural decline you will exacerbate that loss.

I was a casino dealer for a year and a half when I was a kid.

Without a doubt, I lost some of my hearing from the experience.
