Goldmember 0 Posted April 16, 2006 No doubt, he was a monster last season (specially those Saturday games! wow). Helped me all the way to the finals in my league. Absolutely have man love for him. Most of you on this board and experts as well see Tiki Barber as a top 5 back behind SA, LJ, LT, and James. Someone even posted Barber would score double digit TD's this season. Convince why a 30+ year old Tiki Barber doesn't = a 2005 Curtis Martin? History has proven that once a RB hits 30 he loses a step and let's face it ..it's true! famousb 11 Posted April 16, 2006 1. Curtis Martin took a beating in his career. He was not a "power" back, but he definitely wasn't a finesse guy either. Tiki makes a living by making people miss, and running OB when necessary. 2. CuMar carried the load for the majority of his career. Tiki has mostly had someone to split carries w/, particularly in the short-yardage situations. 3. NYG have a passing game that is only getting better. NYJ had nothing in the form of a passing game last year. Kinda hard to run the ball when people know it's coming... 4. Tiki also is a good pass catcher out of the backfield, and gains a significant amount of yards on screens and dump-offs.

Goldmember 0 Posted April 16, 2006 James is in you top 5 backs for this season??? well yes ...he is also in just about every experts top 5. I guess you want to see Portis there right? OK with me.
devildog 0 Posted April 16, 2006 I think he'll have a good season this year and he'll hit the wall next season at 32 like most other backs.
Romulan 0 Posted April 16, 2006 James will not be a first rounder in most dynasty and keeper leagues. He might sneak in at around 7 to 12 in redraft leagues though. No way is he top 5...

He trains harder he plays harder now compared to his earlier years. I for 1 am a fan and think he can produce the same #'s as he did in '05. Just thought I would ask the board the question. The best way to put it is Barber is a 31 year old trapped in a 27 or 28 year old RB body and in the prime of his career. agreed?

Trained hard 2. Prime of his career 3. Coming off some huge seasons 4. Didn't have the mileage of backs his age He fell off at the same age others do with no real warning that it was coming. JetsFan28 0 Posted April 16, 2006 Just for the record, Curtis Martin has been training extremely hard in his offseasons. I don't think Curtis is done though...he has some gas left in the tank. He was hurt last year, and the Jets were just plain dismal...not much you can do in the offense that he was running in. I see a nice rebound year for C-Mart coming up. As for Tiki, he'll be solid again. Unfortunately for you Giant fans, your teams sucks. HTH

Priest fell off after being injured near the end of a season - so he still produced great numbers for the beginning of the year. I'd love to start the year w/ Tiki, and then when he's blowing up, use him for trade bait to fill other holes i might have and get some young talent for him... I think Tiki has a top 10 year this year, and then next year may start trailing off some, or being more in a shared-time scenario...
TIKI-BARBERS-BARBER 0 Posted April 16, 2006 No need to Convince you and hope people will continue to pass on him again this year. I'm sure people will come up with some crazy reason like they do every year to pass on Tiki. I think Tiki is just hitting his prime now.

Last year at 32 he was a shell of his former self. 32 always seems to be the magic number. I'd feel OK having Tiki this year but would feel very uncomfortable next. Why fight history? You may win but there's a greater probability that you're left holding the bag.
49ER MAN 0 Posted April 17, 2006 Tiki had a great year last season and I just wonder with the toughest schedule in the NFL, also with Cincinnati, will he be able to put up 2005 numbers? Eli and company should be better but so will the schedule. I might be reading too much into this though. Thoughts?
Barnaby Wilde 0 Posted April 17, 2006 LOL..you keep thinking that, because the Jets will always be 2nd best in NY/NJ! Unfortunately for you Giant fans, your teams sucks. HTH

Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted April 17, 2006 It's the same problem with Tiki every year for the FF owner: 1. Will he get hurt? 2. He is little, will he lose goal line carries? 3. See 1 and 2, will some RBBC happen next year? That is why people don't want to risk a 1st RD pick on him. And now, he's another year older. Again, he could have a great year and again I will not invest a 1st RD pick on him. Great RB 2.

The guy has been one of the healthiest rb the last 5 years, He missed all of 2 games in the last 5 season and also is willing to play hurt. He really looked like he is hitting his prime and has played his best football the last two years. I think he has two big years left in him and anybody passes on him ain't thinking right. Amazing how people find a reason not to rank him as a elite ff rb every season.

I follow NY - coach Coughlin realizes now his best shot at scoring points is with Barber in the lineup and this goes back 2 years ago. So I don't agree RBBC will be a factor. It's the age factor - that's it. I am on the fence with Barber.
Wildman 0 Posted April 17, 2006 Comparing Barber dropping off due to age and Holmes/Martin's drop offs don't make a lot of sense to me. Holmes and Martin were both hurt or played with injury. Martin played out a season on an ankle so swollen, the swelling flopped over his shoes like Bum Phillips stomach over his wasteline after a BBQ. Doctors were amazed Martin could even play on it. If you don't think that precipitates a physical drop off in performance, then you must believe comic book superheroes with superhuman powers truly exist. These injuries take their toll. Until Barber gets hurt or the Giants draft a truly talented, 1st-2nd round quality RB, he's the unchallenged starter and a smart, top 5 fantasy pick. Edge? Well...I love watching him play, but he's not top 5 in my book because the change to a team with an poor running game (and new system for Edge) is too dicey. He could turn out great, but I think there is no player in FF that more owners will potentially win-lose lots of games than deciding if and when to select James. gatorbait7391 0 Posted April 18, 2006 I think Tiki Barber is going to have a great year, and i have him 4th overall behind the dominant three. This guy said hes getting better with age, doesnt fumble as often, and besides SA he is one of the most consistent backs. Go Tiki!
