UFC - Hughes vs. Gracie

Recommended Posts

Hughes was just too strong for Gracie. When Gracie was on his back he tried to move Hughes into a submission but Hughes was smart enough to defend it. Then it was just Hughes using his power advantage and eventually beating the crap out of Gracie.

Maybe Gracie wouldn't be getting such a pummeling in this forum if he hadn't had such a big mouth before the fight, pretty much guaranteeing a Hughes submission. It's one thing to be dominant in your day; it's another to talk trash and then not back it up.

To a certain degree, every fighter talks a little trash before a fight,(or expresses confidence in their ability to win), and unless its a draw, 50% of those fighters fail to back it up.(just because a fighter loses to one of the best fighters in the world at that weight class doesn't mean he is a lousy fighter or washed up) I thought Gracie was very respectful during interviews, he was just responding to what Hughes said. I think they are both classy fighters, and that they both were confident that they would win, but thats the way it is in every fight. I wish it would have been a better fight.

That's what sells tickets and PPV buy rates. Gracie had no chance in this match but I'm sure the buy rate was pretty good cause of the way they hyped it up.

Oh, I understand all that. I'm just saying that if he, and some of his supporters who seem to be absent since the fight happened, hadn't talked all that trash maybe those of us who could tell it was a lopsided fight wouldn't be piling it on after the fact. If you talk a bunch of trash you should expect to have it thrown back in your face if you fail. I'm kinda sorry I wasted $40 on that fight. At least some of the other fights were good lol.
