D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Chaos Feared in Pandemic Flu Plan By LAURAN NEERGAARD, AP Medical Writer WASHINGTON - A flu pandemic would cause massive disruptions lasting for months, and cities, states and businesses must make plans now to keep functioning — and not count on a federal rescue, the Bush administration said Wednesday. A draft of the document, obtained Monday by The Associated Press, provides little new information on government preparations. The government is preparing for a worst-case scenario of up to 2 million deaths in the United States. full rink
brinett9 0 Posted May 3, 2006 It's all part of Bush's plan to fix Social Security. A pine box is like $300.

naomi 356 Posted May 3, 2006 State governments should start prepping if they haven't, even though it may never mutate to human-human form. Apparently other countries with the capability are stocking up on medicine that will reduce the severity of the symptoms for their citizens. People in the U.S. have become more used to the idea of the federal government being the savior, in theory at least, but we shouldn't mess around with this-if the fed. gov is saying don't count on us, then states need to take the initiative as soon as possible. Recliner Pilot 61 Posted May 4, 2006 lol What a shocker! The libs on this board are irate because the Feds won't guarantee they can't get sick.

Recliner Pilot 61 Posted May 4, 2006 On a side note... ...does this mean I can stop worrying about SARS? Yep, that went the way of "The Next Ice Age" we were supposed to have our panties in a bunch over in the early '70's.

D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted May 4, 2006 lol What a shocker! The libs on this board are irate because the Feds won't guarantee they can't get sick. Nah, more like if they do get sick, the fed ain't gonna do nothing about that. But we all learned that after Katrina anyways.

phillybear 366 Posted May 4, 2006 If 2 million people in this country are going to die, I volunteer the illegal immigrants to meet the Grim Reaper. They need the work.
FlyEaglesFly 0 Posted May 4, 2006 As much as I hate Bush and would like to jump on him for yet another screw up, I think this bird flu issue is getting way too much press. It reminds me of SARS a few years back, remember how that was suppose to kill everyone too? This flu pandemic would be very damaging to the economy and could really cripple some hospitals but I doubt that there would be any where near as many deaths as this and other articles, reports, etc... claim. I actaully agree that the best thing to do is NOT depend on the Government to help. Make sure to stock pile plenty of food, medicine, and bottled water (which everyone should do anyway) and you will be fine.....
D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted May 4, 2006 I actaully agree that the best thing to do is NOT depend on the Government to help Yeah, we already learned that lesson. But I don't think it'll be as bad as some think either. I mean 2 million people dead?
phillybear 366 Posted May 4, 2006 Yeah, we already learned that lesson. But I don't think it'll be as bad as some think either. I mean 2 million people dead? Well, about 10 people have died worldwide from the bird flu so far. If you carry the one, then you get 2 million. Simple.

FlyEaglesFly 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Yeah, we already learned that lesson. But I don't think it'll be as bad as some think either. I mean 2 million people dead? The only people who have actually died from this so far are poor farmers living in bad conditions with limited to no access to any modern health care. The majority of people that would get this disease in the US would be treated in hospitals and would NOT die. Some hospitals may have problems keeping up with the demand but otherwise this is all much to do about nothing! Global Warming/Air and Water Pollution will kill us before this "bird flu"! They are only responding to the continued press regarding this issue. I'm sure the President is happy that we are all destracted by the "deadly" bird flu instead of asking about his screwed up energy/pollution policies!

Human-human form would be more severe than the current bird-human form I think (which is the scenerio the alarm is over). Young healthy people are considered more at mortal risk because the flu causes an "immune system storm." article
kutulu 1,676 Posted May 4, 2006 Bush has heard all the negative reaction to his "plan" and has been hard at work revising it. It is still a work in progress, but details can be found at homeland defense bird flu plan II
