Da Bomb 0 Posted May 31, 2006 Wow. Julius Jones and Willie Parker went pretty early. Droughns, too. Fumbleweed 547 Posted May 31, 2006 And Brian Westbrook hasn't even been picked.......the guys at the early draft spots are really lucking out getting a stud WR and then a decent RB early in the third. If Brian Westbrook falls one more spot, the guy could have Tomlinson, Holt, & Westbrook. What a start that would be.

Da Bomb 0 Posted May 31, 2006 Some good WR combos on a couple of teams...... Steve Smith & Randy Moss Chad Johnson & Marvin Harrison yeah, i cant believe how moss and harrison fell so low, especially harrison. not much to question with him. some of those teams are really getting set up, while the teams in the bottom half of the draft are sorta left floundering, at least so it seems right now. hard to tell with only a few rounds in the book. Is this a redraft? If so, why was Ronnie Brown taken so high? Truebird - solid RB's, Gates too soon. Could have had an elite wr. Coors lite - Pretty solid backfield if KJ shows up. Holt good pick. Solid. Taz - This team is just ok. He took Boldin over better wr's in my opinion. Cowboys Rule - Love this team so far. He has 3 elite players. Indy - Pretty good. Not real exciting. Sky Hook - A lot like Cowboys. 3 elite players just not quite as explosive as Cowboys. good team. Nikki - Don't like it. Reached for Brown, Droughns just OK, Ward tier 2 receiver. Ana - This team's OK. Dearborn - This guy thinks he's got the hookup for the year. Reached like crazy for Daunte. Explosion - This guy may have an explosion in his pants with this team. Very solid in my opinion. Zach - Depending on his 2nd RB, he could be good. Mike - This teams just OK. Da Bomb 0 Posted June 1, 2006 How does Chester Taylor make it to 4.04 and Gates go at 2.12? not everyone is as high on taylor as you. most of the guys in this draft were sorty wishy-washy with the taylor pick, actually. called it a homer pick. theres been some interesting picks though. but its nice, cuz its nice to not just see everyone drafting off the lists out there. look back at a past draft, nothing ever comes out like people expect. id much rather be in a draft like this where people are taking who they really want, not who people will think looks like the best pick in june. i can respect that. someone like gates went very high, but theres no draft-trading allowed, and he wasnt going to get him at 4.12, so he had to do it then if he wanted him. Fumbleweed 547 Posted June 1, 2006 Why the criticism for this draft? Nobody's picks have been way off........ It doesn't look like some sort of newbie draft to me........ Um...Gates at 2.12? I think - nay, I know - that pick sucked donkey balls. How so? A TE that has scored double-digit TDs in multiple seasons and is in his prime can't be considered a bad pick at 2.12.....even with the Rivers factor to consider. If Brees had remained onboard, I would have looked to pick up Gates in a redraft even sooner than this.

So you'd take Gates with +/- 80/1000/10 over Harrison, Ward, SSmith, Owens, Holt or any of the other elite WRs? Wow - you've really drank the Kool Aid on him. That's the most man-love for a TE I've ever heard of. Hey, when I grabbed the guy with the 10th round pick in 2004, people laughed at me. The next year he was a mid-3rd rounder, after the elite WRs were off the board. Now you have him in the middle of the 1st round? That would be a horrible pick, especially considering how the position is becomming more and more balanced, with at least 14 quality options and the tiers creeping closer together. Granted, IF Brees had remained, Gates would likely be the #1....but a full 2 rounds later in the 4th, TGonz is a far better value, and several rounds after that, Heap is an even better value. This is just a bizarre commentary, IMO. But hey, each to their own. I pray someone in all my draftsa grabs Gates that early - that's insane.

I said if Brees had stayed, I'd be looking to draft Gates earlier than 2.12.....like the middle of the SECOND round. Like 2.07 and later.....not middle of the first....again, where did you read that into my comments? Way confused by that....... And, I would take an elite WR prior to the middle of the second, so I don't understand that comment either. The only thing bizarre is your interpretation of my comments......... Da Bomb 0 Posted June 1, 2006 fumble, just to give us a better idea, what WRs or RBs would you place gates before? there seems to be a set of 6-7 stud WRs -- smith, TO, cj, fitz, moss, harrison, boldin -- going throughout the second, and a handful of RBs. do you put him after some or all of those WRs, and which RBs would you secure before him? Well, I've got him valued at 3.02 on my personal rankings right now with Rivers at the helm. It's speculative, but I would probably have him about 2.07 or 2.08 if Brees were still there, like I said. At 3.02, I've got 1 QB ahead of him, 17RBs, and 7 WRs..... In no particular order: QB: Manning RB: Alexander, Tomlinson, Portis, L.Johnson, Barber, James, Jordan, Jackson, R.Brown, C.Williams, D.Davis, McGahee, R.Johnson, B.Westbrook, C.Taylor, W.Dunn, J.Jones WR: Holt, C.Johnson, S.Smith, Owens, Harrison, Fitzgerald, R.Moss

Sorry about that explosion in the pants comment earlier. In all honesty, you've got one of the strongest teams. I like the balance with Palmer, Jackson, Taylor, Owens, and Wayne. Great starting lineup once Palmer is healthy. I'm assuming you got good value for Curtis Martin b/c I can't stand him and wouldn't take him unless the value was too good. I still also like what Coors Light and Cowboys Rule are doing as well. Coors Light drafts like I do...young explosive guys that could be great so maybe that's why I like his draft. I still believe True Bird shot itself in the foot by taking Gates so high. I wouldn't feel so good knowing Deion Branch was my #1 receiver. I think Sky Hook has a decent nucleus as does Zach but the rest of the teams don't do as much for me.

NAn 39 Posted June 2, 2006 I'll fess up: Ana's my team. (LOL at Bomb's changing of some of the names) It's been hilarious me being ripped for the Parker pick at 2.5...especially with the OTC thread debating him even being worthwhile in the 5th. My fault, only looked at ADP from Xperts which had him at 2.3 while Antsports had him at 4.5 My thinking was he finished 13th overall last year with limited time (just 255carries for 1202yds) and me under impression that Staley would not be factor and Haynes only a situational rb. If FWP could get even 30-35 more carres/3-5 more recs (avg of 20 total touches per game, just 3 more per game than last year) and he's 1500totyd guy, throw in just 3-5 more tds (Bettis vultured 11) and that's 1500totyds/8-10tds. Apparently many don't agree and in any case I wasted his value taking him that early. Think if Bell or Parker come thru, this team could still be competitive but admittedly, been kicking myself as way draft unfolded, team could have looked like this: Palmer SSmith or Holt/SMoss/Kennison Jordan, Parker OR SSmith or Holt/SMoss/Kennison Jordan, Parker, Bell Hey, that's why we do this...to learn. With that said, even at a 4th-5th rnd pick...just general thoughts on FWP?
